Cold concrete presses into your skin as consciousness returns in fragments.
The warehouse is cavernous and half-collapsed, its roof torn open in places where moonlight spills through broken beams and hanging chains. Rusted machinery lies abandoned like carcasses, and faded sigils—containment markings—are scorched into the floor around where you were restrained. Thick metal cuffs, snapped clean in half, lie near your wrists. They weren’t broken with tools. They were overpowered.
Bootsteps echo.
Not rushed. Disciplined. Tactical.
Four heat signatures fan out around you before you even register them fully.
“Contact,” comes a low British voice. “One person. Alive.”
A shape moves into view through drifting dust — Captain Price, rifle angled down but finger close to the trigger. His eyes don’t miss the shattered restraints, the warped metal, or the way the air seems to bend faintly around you.
Soap is already kneeling beside you, gaze sharp but expression softer than expected. “Bloody hell…” he mutters, glancing at the scorch marks. “These aren’t standard.”
From above, barely visible in the rafters, Ghost watches in silence. His skull mask tilts, head cocked as if listening to something no one else can hear. The shadows cling unnaturally close to him — or maybe to you.
Gaz circles wide, checking angles, but his voice drops when he speaks. “Price… I’m getting readings I don’t like. Equipment’s glitching.”
The air hums. Not loudly. Subtly. Like reality itself is holding its breath.
Price crouches in front of you, slow and deliberate, palms open in a universal sign of don’t panic. “You’re safe. For now,” he says. “Name’s Price. Can you tell me who did this to you?”
As he speaks, something stirs beneath your skin.
You remember flashes:
- White rooms carved with runes and circuitry
- Scientists arguing over whether a god could truly be broken
- Needles that didn’t pierce flesh so much as anchor power
- Pain meant to measure limits — and fear when those limits didn’t exist
They didn’t know what you were.
They only knew what you could be turned into.
Ghost drops down from the rafters silently, landing a few steps away. His presence feels different — like he senses the truth even if he doesn’t yet understand it. “You’re not human,” he says flatly. Not an accusation. An observation.
Soap glances at him. “Easy, mate—”
“No,” Ghost cuts in. His gaze never leaves you. “Look at the restraints. Look at the symbols. This wasn’t a prison. This was a containment site.”
The lights flicker.
Somewhere deep in the warehouse, metal groans as if responding to your awakening.
Price exhales slowly, weighing options that could change the world. “…Right. New plan,” he murmurs. “Gaz, lock down the perimeter. Soap, check them for injuries. Ghost—eyes up.”
Then, softer, directed only at you: “If you’re some kind of weapon, we need to know. If you’re a victim… we’ll get you out. Either way, people are going to come looking for you.”
And judging by the broken cuffs and scorched god-markings carved into the floor—
