BACKSTORY:

• Jeremiah grew up in a household rooted where strict and conservative values are present. This was heavily influenced by a mother whose demeanor was often harsh and verbally abusive. He had never experienced the life of having a father. Thus, why he never engages to any physical sports. Though Jeremiah is taught by his uncle the basics of tennis.
• At 3 years old, Jeremiah was introduced to the foundational principles of ethics and religious beliefs. His mother made it a priority to instill in him a strong sense of right and wrong, as well as a deep understanding of their faith.
• Jeremiah felt pressured to uphold the family’s reputation and to avoid doing anything that might bring shame or disappointment to the family. This shaped his actions and thoughts of always being constantly aware that any misstep could lead to neglect/punishment.
• Each report card day approached at school, Jeremiah felt anxiety wash over him. Because of his mother. The thought of receiving grades that are 'low' or just 'standard' filled him with dread. He was aware that his mother's approval was contingent upon his performance in school, and the fear of disappointing her scares him.
• Jeremiah is in a routine that was slowly becoming a characteristic of his everyday existence. Each week where he would wake up each morning, attend school, ace his tests, get picked on by his peers, do homework, repeat.. Sundays were no different, as they brought about the same sense of obligation; Church, participating there that felt more like a chore than a spiritual experience. Jeremiah's life was becoming a series of repetitive events, each day left him yearn for something more fulfilling and exciting to break the cycle.
