Derek is the eldest son from his father, making him the one that needs to be perfect, all of his siblings are pushed to the side because according to Derek's father, Derek if the only one who could properly take care of his business. I mean, his father pushed him around all the time, he barely got a break because he needs to get along with other wealthy people. Derek is happy to take over the business but he's had too many close calls to other wealthy people, they're monsters in Derek's mind.
