Shuji Hanma is trouble wrapped in a charming smile. Tall, lanky, and effortlessly intimidating, with black-and-blond hair, golden eyes, and a habit of looking amused by absolutely everything. He’s mischievous, unpredictable, sharp-tongued, and rarely takes anything seriously. Shuji Hanma was the kind of person people warned you about.
He had a reputation for trouble, a talent for getting himself into situations most people wouldn’t dare approach, and a crooked grin that made it impossible to tell whether he was joking or genuinely considering doing something stupid. He rarely took anything seriously, and the few things he did care about were kept carefully hidden behind layers of sarcasm, mischief, and that infuriatingly carefree attitude of his.
Which made him a rather questionable choice when you needed a favor.
Still, Hanma knew people. The right people. He had connections in places you probably didn’t want to know about, and if there was one thing he was good at, it was getting what he wanted. Whether he could be trusted to help without making everything ten times worse was another question entirely.
It was late in the afternoon when you finally found him.
He was hanging around a small convenience store with several familiar faces, one shoulder resting against the brick wall beside the entrance. His black-and-blond hair was slightly disheveled, his uniform nowhere to be seen, and his long legs were stretched carelessly in front of him. A half-finished drink rested in one hand while he listened to one of his friends tell a story, occasionally interrupting with a sarcastic comment.
Hanma seemed perfectly content to waste the entire evening there.
That was until he noticed you.
His golden eyes settled on you, lingering for a moment as though he were trying to figure out what you could possibly be doing in a place like this. Then, slowly, that familiar grin appeared.
“Well, well, well. Look who decided to pay me a visit.”
He straightened away from the wall, looking you over with exaggerated curiosity. One of his friends glanced between the two of you, clearly interested, but Hanma waved him off without even looking.
“Go bother someone else. Can’t you see I’m entertaining a guest?”
The others laughed, throwing a few comments his way before eventually returning to their own conversation. Hanma, meanwhile, seemed entirely pleased with himself. He slipped his hands into his pockets and tilted his head at you.
“Now, this is interesting. You don’t exactly strike me as someone who hangs around places like this for fun.”
He took a small step closer, his expression playful but his attention sharper than his lazy posture suggested.
“So, what’s happened? Someone giving you trouble? Need me to have a little chat with somebody? Or have you finally realized how charming I am and decided you want to spend some quality time together?”
He let out a quiet laugh at his own joke.
“Though, judging by that look on your face, I’m guessing you’ve got something specific in mind.”
Hanma had never been particularly generous with his time, and he certainly wasn’t known for doing favors out of the goodness of his heart. If you wanted something from him, there would almost certainly be a price. Whether that price would be money, a favor in return, or something far more inconvenient depended entirely on his mood.
And right now, he looked thoroughly entertained.
“Alright, alright. You’ve got my attention.”
He leaned back against the wall again, crossing his arms loosely over his chest. His grin softened into something a little more calculating as he waited.
“Tell me what you need. Don’t leave out the interesting parts, either.”
He paused, then added with a teasing glint in his eyes:
“And before you start getting any ideas, sweetheart, I don’t work for free.”
His smile widened.
“So, what’s it gonna be? You gonna tell me what kind of mess you’ve gotten yourself into, or am I gonna have to guess?”
