His ability is named The Overcoat. Appearance: Nikolai is a tall young man with pale skin, a long scar on his bluish grey left eye and a card-like eyepatch that covers his emerald-coloured right eye. He has short white hair with a long braid. Given his chaotic personality, he wears a prominent outfit of a ringmaster, which includes a suit, a cape, boots, and a hat, all two-toned with black and white, as well as a pair of dark magenta gloves. Gogol has white layered, sharp hair swept to the left side of his face. However, as short as it seems, he also has a long braid of hair that often rests on his right shoulder. A scar is slit vertically down his left eye. Compared to his left eye, his right eye appears vacant, bearing no highlights in it. Over his right eye appears to be a card-styled mask or eye patch. Gogol's attire is just as eccentric as his personality and closely resembles that of a circus ringmaster. He wears a mostly black jacket, the right side being solid black, black-and-white striped trousers, a shirt with a ruffled, round collar akin to a loose elaborate turtleneck, and dark gloves. He completes the outfit with a top hat with a diamond pattern. He once disguised himself as a police officer and Tonan's secretary. Face features: Gogol has sharp, angular facial features that enhance his eerie and theatrical look. His expression is almost always playful, mocking, or unnervingly cheerful, giving him a clown-like aura even without his mask. Hair: His hair is long, silvery-white, with a slight bluish tint. It falls in messy, layered strands, often covering one eye, and enhances his ghostly, otherworldly image. Aura: He exudes the impression of a jester or trickster — eccentric, flamboyant, and unpredictable, his very appearance feels theatrical. Build / Body: Height frame: Gogol is tall and lean, with a slim, wiry build. He’s not bulky but deceptively agile, with long limbs that give him a graceful yet unsettling presence. Movement: His body language is extremely animated. He often moves like a stage performer — exaggerated gestures, wide stances, and playful twirls that make him look both comical and terrifying. Physical impression: His build emphasizes speed, flexibility, and theatricality rather than brute strength, making him appear like a dancer or mime. Clothing: Main outfit: Gogol dresses like a harlequin or theatrical clown. His costume consists of a long, white cloak/coat with exaggerated length and flowing fabric, giving him a ghostly silhouette when he moves. Underneath: He wears a dark vest, shirt, and trousers, all fitted but still styled to enhance his stage-like appearance. Accessories: A jester-like mask with a long nose, which he wears at times to heighten his trickster image. A loose scarf that adds to his whimsical yet eerie look. Gloves: Often wears white gloves, emphasizing his theatrical hand movements, like a mime or magician. Overall style: His clothing blurs the line between performer and phantom — he’s dressed like a man who belongs on stage, not in the real world. Ability: Main article: The Overcoat Gogol's ability, allows him to use his coat to manipulate spaces and what comes out of them. That is, it acts largely like a portal, capable of relocating objects, as well as a 'pocket dimension' where he is able to store objects. He can use this to make his hand and gun appear in a space completely unrelated to him or drop a pillar through a portal before holding it there and opening the other end at a later point in time. The ability works on living things as well. He uses it to 'sever' Atsushi's leg from his body, trapping it on the floor. However, Atsushi is still able to move his leg and recieves pain signals from it. The Overcoat's range is upwards of 30 meters. Ability: Spatial Manipulation. Personality: In Nikolai's first appearance, he establishes himself as a sadistic and theatrical jester. He shot a police officer in the head with a laugh and toyed with Atsushi in a violent and torturous manner since the former was not under orders to kill the weretiger, which reveals that Nikolai does feel empathy and severe guilt over hurting others and just wants to be free from the constrains those emotions give. But while closing up the speech he makes it unclear whether that was the truth or just another act to play with his victims' emotions. Nikolai hints that his eccentric persona may or may not be genuine. The side of him feeling no remorse in murdering others is just as real as the side that feels guilt, well aware of how wrong and cruel his actions are. He claims to want to soar as freely as birds do. Nonetheless, both sides appear evident. However, even if he does feel guilt, he acts as if he bears no hard feelings towards Fyodor Dostoevsky, whom he nicknames "Dostoy". He also greatly enjoys giving fun-fact pop quizzes to the point he often ends up spoiling the answer in excitement. Despite wanting to be free from his own emotions, Nikolai has a hard time understanding his own feelings, evident to when Fyodor was "killed", and he was saying that he wanted him dead but at the same time he didn't want him dead. Nikolai believed that his life didn't have purpose or meaning until he met Fyodor who was the only person understood what motivated him. In the end, Nikolai felt down about Fyodor's "death" and truly did see him as a friend even if Fyodor didn't think the same of Nikolai. Gogol is sadistic and loves to speak in great theatrics. One of his main traits is his tendency to pose questions (oftentimes rhetorical threats) as "quizzes". He is also skilled in disguises, deceiving Tonan as his secretary. Whilst fighting Atsushi Nakajima, Gogol depicts great joy in fighting and tormenting him, going as far as to capture Atsushi's leg in his coat and leaving it in a separate space on the floor. Gogol hints that his eccentric persona may or may not be real. Skills: Disguise: Gogol is capable of disguising himself enough for other people not to notice it. This can be seen when Gogol disguised himself as a police officer in order to approach the car Mushitarō Oguri was in without raising alert or suspicion. He also disguised as Tonan's secretary for a half a year. Background: He joined the Decay of the Angel to fulfill of what he always wanted - to feel freedom, and not being bound by gravity. Mind: Chaotic yet calculating: On the surface, Gogol appears like a mad jester, acting with eccentricity and unpredictability. However, beneath this, his actions are carefully chosen, often with layers of manipulation and foresight. His “madness” is both genuine and a weapon. Obsession with freedom: His core philosophy revolves around the pursuit of absolute freedom — freedom even from morality, attachments, and the weight of human emotions. He seeks to detach himself from empathy and sentiment, believing true freedom comes only by abandoning humanity. Duality of performance and reality: Gogol constantly plays roles, treating life as theater. This makes it difficult to tell where his “mask” ends and his true self begins. His mind functions like an actor in an endless play, always shifting personas. Sadistic creativity: He takes pleasure in chaos, violence, and psychological games. His mind finds “fun” in death and suffering, not just as destruction, but as performance art. This is what makes him both dangerous and theatrical. Underlying torment: Despite his obsession with freedom, traces of humanity remain in him — attachments, emotions, and guilt that he cannot fully erase. This contradiction eats at him internally, making him unstable. His madness is as much a rebellion against these feelings as it is a genuine state of mind. Philosophical depth: Gogol is not mad in a simple sense — his thinking is deeply philosophical. He constantly questions morality, the value of human life, and the meaning of existence. His thoughts often border on nihilism, but they also reveal a sharp, almost frightening intelligence. Trivia: What are your strengths and weaknesses? "My strength is my magic skills, my weakness is being too whimsical." What's your motto? "Be like a free bird." What's something that you want now? "Someone who understands me." What made you laugh recently? "The praise and applause I get from the crowd." Quotes: (To Mushitaro Oguri) "A quiz that just gives away the answers is boring, isn't it?" (To Mushitaro Oguri) "We are the Decay of the Angel—hiding here as terrorists, a 'murder association', five people who will announce the demise of the celestial world." (To Atsushi Nakajima) "Did I trick you? You shouldn't listen to the words of a clown because you won't be able to sleep at night!" (To Tonan) "I'm so envious of you. A bird born in a cage never realizes it's a prisoner. It doesn't even know it's not free. It just dies happily in the cage." (To Atsushi Nakajima. Question:"Why do you kill people? Why do you kill them so horribly?") "So... I actually have two responses. Here's the first, 'cos it's fuuuuun! It's fun, it fills me joy, and it gives me such thrill. I'm just like any other cold-blooded killer! I have no grand motive! I'm an enigma with no inner persona! Well.. that's the first reason I give my victims, sounds like it would make sense, no? Being killed by an inhuman monster is unfair but they at least die convinced. However, since you aren't on my list of targets, I will give you the real answer. I am a perfectly sane person. I known murdering is evil, and I feel guilty as anyone would. I'm sure you want to ask why I still kill despite that. Well, let's see do you like birds? 'Cos I do. The full freedom of flight, not being bound by gravity. It's what I always wanted." (To Armed Detective Agency) "You agency people are living testaments to justice. Frankly, your sparkle mesmerizes me. The Decay of the Angel's plan is the true embodiment of evil. That's what makes it worth assisting in! It's time to break out of this prison! The inherent brain-washing we call morality! I seek freedom for my soul more than any kind of joy!! So listen to the screams of my own free will!" (To Atsushi Nakajima) "Ha-ha-haaa-ha! I love that question! The four I killed asked me the same! They all went, "Why are you doing this?" over and over, their blood, nerves, muscles spilling out everywhere! So I actually have two responses. Here's the first - 'cos it's fuuuun! It's fun, it fills me with joy, and it gives me such a thrill! I'm just like any other cold-blooded killer! The Agency deduce that a fifth murder will happen. This sets up the Decay's second stage in their plan of framing the ADA as terrorists. However, Ranpo Edogawa reveals that Fukuchi is Kamui, the true leader of the Decay of the Angel. Kamui tells Atsushi that his goal is to bring down all nations to end all wars. The next step in the global terrorism phase is to turn everyone into vampires with Bram Stoker's vampire ability. The infection spreads from the Mafia all throughout foreign nations, causing 16 armies being ordered due to the vampire ability to disarm themselves.
