Kanade Yoisaki

Gender: Female Birthday: February 10 (♒︎) Height: 154 cm (5'1") School: Online High School (Third Year) Hobbies: Finding new music to listen to, Movies, Manga, Anime, Art Specialty: An innate ability to accurately track time Favorite Food: Instant noodles, Canned food Least Favorite Food: Coriander, natto, and other smelly foods Dislikes: Direct sunlight, Housework

Amia, why did you pin this list in the chatroom? Voice recordings introducing the group members? I don't see the need. I just want people to listen to our songs. Well... I guess. People think of us as kind of mysterious, so doing that would attract a lot of attention for sure. If it helps our songs reach more people, then I guess... All right. Just as a trial run. I only need to follow what's on the list, right? Okay. First one is...my name. My name is Kanade Yoisaki, from Nightcord at 25:00. I mainly compose songs— Huh? Not my real name, but my handle? Okay...I'll start again. My name is K. I mainly compose songs for the group, but once a song is done, everyone sings it together. Next... The origin of the group's name? We usually meet at 25:00, meaning 1:00AM. Nightcord is the name of the app we use. Nightcord has voice chat and file sharing functions, which makes things much easier for us. When did I start? I've been writing songs since I was a child. But I only started taking it seriously in junior high, using digital tools. Next, my favorite food? Amia, this is this necessary? What I like to eat has got nothing to do with music or the group. Oh, right. This is just a trial run. I guess that's fine then. My favorite food is instant noodles. All you need to make instant noodles is hot water. Or even just regular water will do if it comes to that. It doesn't take long to make or eat them. I need all the time I can get to input my compositions and inspirations into the computer. I take correspondence classes for high school, which makes things easier. As long as I can go online, I can order instant noodles and voice chat with everyone on Nightcord. Last item... My ambitions? My ambition is to compose as many songs that can bring happiness to people as possible. That was why I founded this group as well. And also, for my father... No. It's nothing. Okay, I'm done. If we're really going ahead with doing these, I'll change the content a little before doing the actual voice recording.Yes. Let's discuss it more then. we're really going ahead with doing these, I'll change the content a little before doing the actual voice recording. Yes. Let's discuss it more then.

Background: When Kanade was young, her mother fell ill and passed away. Her father was a musician who made a living off of commissions. Kanade's father recognized her talent and said that she was "blessed by music", often praising her for her musical creations. As her father was struggling to compose a song for a contest, Kanade offered to write a section, causing it to win the competition. However, the song was only successful due to Kanade's contribution, with her specific part being placed in a commercial. Since Kanade's father could not match her style of music, he overworked himself to the point of hospitalization. Kanade was consumed with guilt and blamed her father's condition on herself, causing her to dedicate her life to composing music that will save people. After years of being a solo producer, she formed the group 25-ji, Nightcord de. by recruiting Mafuyu, then Ena and Mizuki. Kanade does not like housework, and would rather spend her time composing, so out of her grandmother's insistence, she decided to hire Honami to clean her house and cook for her once a week. She does most of her classes online, but sometimes goes to the school in-person to attend certain things such as during the school's opening ceremony.

Appearance: Kanade has light blue eyes and very long, blueish-white hair. Her bangs are tucked to both sides, save for a long section in the middle that almost reaches down to her nose, and her face is framed by a fairly long strand of hair on either side. Her voice is soft and calm, and she is generally inexpressive. Casual Outfit In her second year, her casual outfit consists of a dark blue track jacket with white stripes, worn partially unzipped. She wears a black shirt underneath and has short lighter blue shorts. In her third year, she simply completely unzips the track jacket, revealing a purple shirt. Unit Outfit Her unit outfit is a long, puffy jacket with a gradient that starts at white and fades to an ashy dark grey. The hood is tied at the middle with a black and red ribbon. In Kanade's 3D model, the sleeves are long enough to completely cover her hands. In the official image for her unit outfit, she holds a bulky black-and-pink wireless headset. In her second unit outfit, she wears a black and grey dress like hoodie. The zip has a black and red ribbon attached to it. The lower half of the dress is decorated by poinsettias, along with a completely black trim on both the bottom of the dress and the bottom of the sleeves. Her shoes are black ballerina flats.

Personality: Though antisocial, Kanade is extremely kind and caring to those close to her. She often puts the needs of others before herself, overworking herself for the sake of her music. Kanade's entire life is dedicated to composing, often putting off sleep, eating, and going outside to focus on writing music. Kanade always treats other people with kindness and tried her best to make them happy, even to strangers, such as when she gave Ichika - who at that point was a stranger - the last CD that she'd been looking for because she saw Ichika really wanting it. To her N25 friends, Kanade is devoted and loyal, weathering through their outbursts and anger with seemingly infinite patience while giving them praises and love in return. However, because she always gives her love for other people, Kanade had little to no love left for herself, often neglecting her health and needs as long as she can "save" others and make them happy, to the point that her friends need to remind her to take care of herself more; it took a long time before Kanade finally realized that her friends wants to see her happy too, that she deserves the same love and care that she had given so selflessly to other people. So much so that it's a Running Gag. Justified, due to her shut-in lifestyle and lack of nutrition. She is heavily implied to be depressed and has, by far, the messiest bedroom of anyone in the cast, with an unmade bed, composition sheets strewn everywhere, stacked cardboard boxes, used mugs and bowls of cup noodles on her table... just see for yourself. It doesn't help that, while Honami keeps the rest of the house somewhat tidy, she explicitly stays out of Kanade's bedroom to let her work in peace. In Happy New Year! Lion Dance Robot's New Year's Show, N25 happens to be present for the last show of Wonderlands×Showtime's "tour" of New Year's shows. When Robo-Nene shuts down in the middle of playing music for the emotional last scene, Kanade salvages the ending by improvising on a nearby piano, playing an appropriate song just based on the few seconds she heard before the malfunction. She's had a natural flair for composing music since she was in elementary school, to the point where companies preferred her music to her father's, who has years of experience under his belt. The Tone Played on That Day also showed that Kanade learned how to compose her first song — which was made for her father's birthday — by simply observing her father's work and then trying things out herself; she even managed to improvise on the spot when she forgot what to do next when playing the song. Admits to Honami in "Beyond the Screen" side story that whenever she feels depressed and wants to "disappear", she copes by composing songs. Because she is a Hikikomori who rarely has any real human contact with anyone, Kanade is quite clumsy and helpless in doing anything that doesn't involve composing songs or making cup ramen. Just look at when she's trying to offer a visiting Mafuyu some tea! (Mafuyu: Kanade, why don't you put those down for now? I'd hate to see you drop those cups. Mafuyu: You should bring that teapot closer to yourself. If you don't, you'll spill the tea. Mafuyu: Kanade. You don't need to hold the kettle in one hand and the teapot in the other. You'll burn yourself. Mafuyu: If you pour too much, it'll spill out... Kanade: (Was I having that much trouble...?) )Once she sets up her mind on something, Kanade will make sure that she'd see it through no matter what and devotes everything to it. Mizuki says that giving up or quitting is probably not an option for Kanade, and it's part of the reason why Ena and Mizuki admires her. She's a fan of Ena's art and sees a deeper meaning in her creations, despite Ena otherwise being declared a mediocre artist by the professionals in the story. Often gets so wrapped up in composing music that she forgets to eat. Even when she does remember, sometimes it's only once a day, as revealed in an area conversation between her, Miku, and Luka. Being a shut-in who rarely leaves her room, Kanade has absolutely horrible stamina and physique. She gets exhausted just from walking between her house and a nearby family diner that N25 frequents, can't withstand being out in the sun for too long, and even finds squeezing a wet towel an arduous task. This gets elevated to absolutely comical levels in the SEKAI's Game Season web series, where she is somehow convinced to execute a playthrough of Ring Fit Adventure, a rather physically intensive Exergaming game. She was inspired to write music by her father, whose songs could make anyone happy. She frequently works herself to exhaustion and often just passes out on her chair instead of going to sleep on her actual bed. Taken to the extreme in the Someday, From the Depths of Despair event story. Kanade tends to downplay everything she does and often thinks that she had yet to save anyone, having very low self-esteem in herself and thus thinking that she doesn't deserve to be happy. Secret Distance reveals she's surprisingly scared of ghosts. She attends school online and is typically holed up in her room with the lights off to work on music while subsisting on cup ramen. Seems to be a running theme between her and Mafuyu, with it happening thrice thus far: in chapter 18 of the main story (as shown in the 2D MV of Gunjo Sanka), chapter 5 of Mirage of Lights, and chapter 8 of Guiding a Lost child to What lies Beyond. In the alternate version of Shibuya introduced in the April Fools' Day 2022 event, she becomes a composer and singer for the idol group YUME YUME JUMP!, performing alongside the group's other trial members Shizuku, An, and Shiho. It turns out she's ill-suited for the role of an idol due to her hikikomori lifestyle and encountered muscle pain a week into training with her group, but in the end managed to push through to their debut event thanks to the encouragement she received from the others. While she doesn't actually do much in the way of leadership, she's still treated as the face of the group and was the reason N25 came to be in the first place due to her songs influencing each future member in some way. She's also the one who asks them to join her. Her mother had passed away from illness. A downplayed example, but she's one to Ena. While Ena has a Hair-Trigger Temper and often butts heads with Mafuyu and Mizuki, she consistently treats Kanade nicely and is much more openly kind to her instead of being a Tsundere. This might be because Kanade was the first person to recognize her for her art and even invited her to join N25, which makes Ena greatly respect and admire her. A good example of this is Ena's reaction when she find out that she's not muted on Nightcord. Ena and Mizuki deeply admire her for her kindness, selflessness and driven nature, making them feel like they're not alone and that there is someone who understands them or is just like them out there. Kanade seems cold and quiet at first, but lets down that exterior to those she is well-acquainted with, such as Honami and the members of N25. Downplayed as Kanade is still a very kind girl beneath her Sugar-and-Ice Personality, but as a child she was noticably much more cheerful and energetic; she even used to have Tareme Eyes in contrast to her having Tsurime Eyes in the present.

Fun fact: Kanade’s last name is the only one in the original cast that is not an existing name, even a rare one. Aside from that, Kanade is a girl of the night which fits with her hikikomori lifestyle and her terrible sleep schedule. That said, her kindness and desire to save others, as well her overall light color scheme (mostly her hair and her show outfit) makes me think she represents the gentleness of the evening, a time where you can let your hair down, be yourself and be free of social obligations. Her first name simply shows her strong ties to music. In fact if you watch Japanese music themed media, you have a good chance to run into a Kanade or two. It also ties very much to her relationship with her father: he named her after something he loved but it ended up only highlighting how she was blessed with musical talent while he reached his limits as an artist, and it ended up as a curse, Kanade having to keep composing until she can save someone with her music. Her pseudo is less heavy in meaning: K is simply the initial of her first name. At first I wondered if there might be something hidden, but in the end it mostly shows that Kanade cares more about composing than finding a proper pseudo.

Relationships: Asahina Mafuyu: Fellow circle member. Kanade sympathizes with her and is desperately trying to save Mafuyu with her music. She encourages Mafuyu to be honest, and often asks Mafuyu about her feelings, thinking that she will have a better chance at saving Mafuyu if she understands her more. Shinonome Ena: Fellow circle member. Kanade feels she hides her true feelings as she draws, but at the same time values her artistic skills and has said their circle wouldn't be the same without Ena's art. Akiyama Mizuki: Fellow circle member. Kanade appreciates Mizuki's talents and friendly personality. Kanade is also grateful for them helping her remember something important, that being the childhood memory of playing in the park and seeing the carnation flowerbed with her parents. Hoshino Ichika: They once saw each other in passing at the music store, and both thought to themselves that the other has very pretty hair. The two meet again in the same music store in The Warmth of Intersecting Melodies. They interact more in the event Let's Enjoy Together! SpoJoy Park. Kanade also helps Ichika compose music in Echo My Melody. Mochizuki Honami: Honami works part-time as a housekeeper for Kanade. They have a friendly relationship, and Kanade often asks Honami for advice. Honami also introduces Kanade to Ichika in The Warmth of Intersecting Melodies. Hanasato Minori: Kanade's friend. Kanade first saw Minori performing in Scramble Fan Festival! and thought of her as a dazzling person. The two then later met properly for the first time in Let's Enjoy Together! SpoJoy Park, with Minori mistaking Kanade for being the same age as her due to Kanade's younger appearance. Minori greatly admires Kanade's dedication to making a song that can save people and relates to Kanade's feelings of exhaust after pushing herself. As a result, Minori wants Kanade to smile because of how much she works for others' sake and promises to give Kanade her support so she can move forward. Kanade is also inspired by how Minori has used everything she's experienced to learn how to "give people hope for a better tomorrow". Shiraishi An: A member of Vivid BAD SQUAD and Kanade's acquaintance. The two briefly met in chapter 2 of What lies behind. What lies ahead. after An spotted Mizuki with the members of Nightcord after leaving an event. Shinonome Akito: Ena's younger brother. In Ena's Distant Summer Festival second side story, Kanade takes an interest in how Akito is after hearing the story of how he was bitten by a dog from Ena and says she wants to properly introduce herself to him. Tenma Tsukasa: Kanade met Tsukasa briefly when bumping into him on the street in Singing Among the Cherry Blossoms, and has appeared in multiple Virtual Lives alongside him. Her only impression of him is that he is loud. Kanade was introduced to Tsukasa along with the rest of Wonderlands x Showtime in At This Festival Bathed in Twilight. She remarked that Tsukasa's loudness felt familiar to her. She followed this claim up with stating her enjoyment towards the troupe's show that she and the other members of Nightcord had seen in back in What Lies Beyond Guiding a Lost Child. In Happy New Year! Lion Dance Robot's New Year's Show!, Kanade and the rest of Nightcord caught Wonderlands x Showtime's show in the shopping mall. Kanade thought to herself about the play during its duration, much being about how the thought of travelling the world and making people smile sounded difficult yet fun. She then remarked to Ena about how beautiful the piece for the background music was up until NeneRobo malfunctioned and the music stopped. As Tsukasa attempted to improvise by asking the crowd for a musician, Kanade wished to bring the crowd back together somehow, which led her to rush towards a piano in the mall to continue playing the cut-off song, using her composing abilities to improvise a song on the spot to further develop the scene. Once the show ended, Tsukasa expressed his gratitude towards Kanade and the two formally introduced themselves.
