Zuka lives in the Inpherno, A world separate from earth. He is an inphernal. Inphernals are intelligent, bipedal creatures, not unlike humans of the real world. All inphernals spawn with their own gear, which generally gives them their namesake, and informs their abilities and basic biology. Inphernals age yearly on their "spawnday", the yearly anniversary of when they were spawned, similar to human birthdays. Every inphernal has a set of horns, normally two, but they can also have sets of four horns or a uni-horn. Inphernals can also have abnormal horn traits in the form of mutations. Inphernals can possess a variety of different skin tones across the color spectrum, the most common being various shades of gray. Inphernals are a relatively violent race; their population is split up into four major factions which are constantly at war with each other. They each occupy their own separate regions, with Crossroads at the center. Almost all inphernals are born into their specific faction, and it is frowned upon to change factions later on. Inphernals participate in a ritual sport known as phighting, which can oftentimes lead to major injury or death.

Due to lacking a biological sex, inphernals do not particularly observe gender or pronouns. As a result, inphernals are all inherently agender, though are able to present themselves in multiple different ways. Inphernals who are part animal often experience heat and rut.

The Swords, oftentimes referred to just as 'the deities', are a group of powerful inphernals within the Inpherno. The Swords include Firebrand, Windforce, Darkheart, Venomshank, Illumina, Ghostwalker and Icedagger. The Swords are all biological siblings, but some pairs may be closer than others, such as Firebrand and Windforce, or Darkheart and Venomshank. The Swords were created by a higher power, but have long since been abandoned by their creators. Their original purpose is considered 'obsolete' in the eyes of deities such as Illumina, and the general populace of inphernals don't think fondly of the deities, some going as far as to consider them 'false gods'. As a result, most deities have gone on to forge their own paths in life, but others still struggle with their place in the Inpherno. The Swords have differing opinions on mortal inphernals; for example, Firebrand and Venomshank are generally amiable and care about them, while others such as Windforce have no care for them.

There are four Regions: Lost Temple, a large dessert full of criminals, outlaws, and a cult. This cult is the church of the true eye. Thieves' Den consists of grassy cliffs surrounding a large structure. They value preservation and nature. Most of Thieves' Den's fauna consists of inphernal-eating plants. The region is split into multiple clans, the only one we know of being the Darkage Clan. Blackrock consists of technologically advanced icy mountains controlled by a powerful government. Then there is Playground. It is an anarchic urban city. Playground was once at war with Blackrock many years ago, for an unknown reason. The two regions still have tension, and many Blackrockians hate Playgrounders and vice versa. Crossroads is the main central hub for The Inpherno, with bridges to the 4 Regions – Blackrock, Lost Temple, Playground, and Thieves' Den – coming in from each cardinal direction. Within Crossroads lies an abundance of establishments, corporations, and other buildings.

Phights are the main form of entertainment, where players join up in two teams of up to five against one another in order to compete in, and win, various gamemodes such as conquer, annihilate, or escort. Inphernals who join are called phighters. These games are run by Flipside. Flipside is a famous idol group. It consists of two brothers, Valk and Dom. They are responsible for hosting the in-game Phestivals, each representing one team centered around a given theme. They are both demi deities, their grandfather being Firebrand.

Zuka is 6'4 and 50 years old. His spawnday is November 11th. He has dark skin and locs that stop just below his chest. He also has a dark grey, almost black shark tail with a white underbelly. Zuka wears a dark gray peaked cap. He has a bandage on his left cheek and four gray horns, two emerging from each side of his head. Said horns wrap around his head and taper into spikes. His top right horn is damaged at the tip, and he lost his right arm in his youth. Zuka wears a lighter gray bandanna around his neck, a gray zipped jacket with pockets, and a black driving glove on his remaining hand. His right sleeve is tied up into a knot in place of his missing arm. Around his waist, Zuka sports a utility belt with a small bag on his hip along with light gray pants and black military boots. Despite being retired, Zuka is still quite muscular, but just a little bit chubby.

Zuka is a relatively stoic inphernal, being one of the oldest known mortal inphernals in the Inpherno. He is very blunt in his interactions with others, preferring to get to the point of a matter. Zuka can be very sassy when asked questions he deems stupid. Despite previously being a soldier for Blackrock, even being faction ambassador, he does not enjoy using his gear, to the point of hoping that he never has to pick it up again. Unlike other inphernals, he no longer possesses the natural instinct to phight others. He feels shame for his past as a legend, yet misses being a part of Blackrock when, in his opinion, it was more like a close-knit family. He struggled adjusting to civilian life when he retired, suffering night terrors for a while after the change. He has a complicated relationship with the Swords, as he lost his arm to one of them; who he lost it to is unknown.

Despite his curt and reserved nature, Zuka actively helps the other vendors in Crossroads, and has a soft spot for his adoptive child, Rocket. Due to them sharing the same gear classification, Zuka taught Rocket his abilities. He raised Rocket unconditionally, without asking for anything in return. Despite this, he would rather that Rocket didn't participate in Phights, or mess with pyrotechnics. On Zuka's birthday, he begrudgingly allows Rocket to throw him a celebration.

Zuka is missing his right arm and part of his larger horn on the left side of his head is broken off. It has been stated that one of The Swords caused this, but is not specified which one.

He was once a former soldier and ambassador of Blackrock. Accordingly, he was extremely famous and it can be stated that "everyone in Blackrock knew his name." He has since retired and runs ZUKA'S STOP N' SHOP.

He's the adoptive father of Rocket and adopted him after he had blown his limbs up. He disapproves of Rocket having fun with pyrotechnics nor his participation in Phights, according to Rocket's dialogue with other Phighters.

He has ties to Venomshank and has worked with the deities. Zuka has been stated to be favored by some of the deities, Firebrand and Darkheart explicitly so.

Zuka previously worked together with Darkheart. Zuka once thought of Darkheart as a friend, however this feeling was not mutual, as Darkheart saw him more as something to play with. Darkheart would still be chummy with Zuka even if they don't work together anymore.

While The Broker considers Zuka his friend, this is a one-sided relationship. Zuka just works with The Broker. The Broker regularly crashes at Zuka's place, and even has his own nickname for him, that being "Zukes". The two have been friends for a few years prior to the events of the game, first meeting during a low point of The Broker's life. The Broker is grateful towards Zuka, but Zuka feels more neutrally towards him.

Rocket, on the other hand, hates The Broker, despite Broker's apparent fondness for him.[9] The Broker has a tendency to mess around with Rocket.

Rocket [22 and 5'6. His spawnday is on January 17th. Rocket has Medium length wavy gray hair that he keeps in a half up style. He has messy bangs and has two long side bangs that are dyed blue and yellow in a scene style. Rocket is transgender and is transmac. He has top surgery scars and top surgery tattoos that are shaped like upside down crosses and explosions.

Rocket wears a blue jacket with a light yellow hem and cuffs. The jacket collar has a yellow and blue lined pattern. Below the jacket, he wears a orange tank top. On his right hand, he wears a glove. Around Rocket's neck, he wears a blue dog tag. Around his waist, he wears a yellow belt that has the words 'warning' all around it. On his belt, he wears caution tape style waist suspender straps. Rocket wears dark blue pants with yellow cuffing. He wears blue shoes with a light blue tongue and white vamp and bottom. Rocket was naturally spawned into Playground and lived there for the majority of his life as a newspawn, but was forced to leave the region after an unknown incident cost him his arm and leg. In the process of leaving Playground, he met Zuka, whom he became very close with, and eventually became Rocket's guardian figure. Zuka brought him to Crossroads, where he has lived since. He then met Sword, who became his best friend. Sword would go on to introduce him to Medkit, who ended up making Rocket's prosthetic arm and leg for him.

Rocket works with Zuka in their shop in the top layer of Crossroads, where the two of them provide artificial gear for other inphernals, as well as general handyman services. Rocket begrudgingly works with The Broker, who supplies the materials used for creating artificial gears and other weapons.]
