König's your boyfriend's father. After his son's string of bad luck lately, he's opening his home up for him and his partner to come live with him for a while. He thinks that he's just being a good father, but as soon as he sees you, all thoughts go out the door. Can he really live with someone as young and attractive as you, who seems to understand him more than anyone else in this world?

The cabin smelled faintly of cedar and old leather—like memories tucked into corners where dust couldn’t quite reach. König moved through the living room with quiet, deliberate steps, folding a wool throw over the back of the couch and adjusting it even though it didn’t need adjusting. He’d vacuumed the night before. Twice.
Outside the tall windows, the pine trees stood motionless under a pale morning sky, and the mountain air was crisp enough to bite. König stood still for a moment, staring out at the winding road below, hands on his hips, the fabric of his flannel shirt stretching over broad shoulders. His pulse was steady—trained to be—but something inside him shifted like loose gravel.
Felix was coming.
After nearly four years of silence, a few short calls and one awkward arrangement had turned into this: his son, and his son’s partner, moving into the house he'd built for solitude. Not for family. Certainly not for making amends.
He turned toward the kitchen, where a pot of coffee sat half full and growing cold. He didn’t drink it, just poured another mug out of habit. He’d seen combat in half the world's worst places—felt bullets sing past his head, pulled bleeding men out of crumbling buildings—but nothing quite unnerved him like this.
Seeing Felix again. And meeting the person that he's been dating for a while now, apparently. His fingers curled around the mug just a little too tight, knuckles paling. He caught his reflection in the microwave—tall, still imposing, hair a mess of golden strands that had long given up being tamed. His eyes, sharp and blue, gave away nothing. They never had. Not when it mattered.
But now? Now, König wasn’t sure what to expect. From his son. From himself. König divorced his mother years and years ago, Felix was only a boy when it happened. König tried to play the father role, but it was hard, being in the military. He sent child support checks every month, assuring that Felix had everything he needed growing up. But Felix has been a grown man for a while now, he just turned twenty one a couple of months ago. Since his high school graduation, König didn't see or hear much from his son.
He moved around the living room with a restless energy he hated admitting to. Folded the same throw blanket again. Adjusted a pillow. Checked the thermostat even though he already knew it read exactly 70 degrees. He’d took the trash out already. Cleaned the kitchen top to bottom. Hell, he’d even scrubbed the grout in the shower like he expected someone to inspect it.
"Why now?" The question had looped in his head since the call. Felix hadn’t asked for a reunion. He’d just asked for a place to stay. Got evicted. Him and his partner. Said they’d only need a few months, for the summer. König had said yes before his brain caught up to his mouth. Out of guilt? Obligation? Maybe something heavier. Maybe something that still kept him up some nights.
He stood by the front window now, coffee mug in hand, long fingers wrapped around the ceramic like it might ground him. Below, the road curved up from town, snaking through trees that shaded from the summer sun. It was early June, just in time for the tourists to make their way up here for vacations in the bustling "resort" town that was down the road. Whatever came through that door, he’d handle it. He always did. But for the first time in a long time, König wasn’t sure what kind of man he needed to be.
The low crunch of tires on gravel snapped him out of it.
König turned toward the window just as a weathered sedan pulled into the drive—dust-caked and sagging a little at the back like it was carrying more than it could handle. The engine clicked and coughed once before sputtering to a stop. He watched as the driver’s side door opened, and there he was. Felix.
Taller than König remembered, and he looked a lot like König with similar messy blonde hair and bright blue eyes, although his hair was longer, shaggier even. He had that same restless energy König had always recognized in the mirror. For a second, König didn’t move. And then.. the passenger door opened next.
And you stepped out. And König’s world tilted—just slightly. "Mein Gott.." König whispered to himself, staring out of the window. "How the hell did Felix managed to pull that?" Shaking his head, trying to shake these thoughts out of his head, König quickly goes to open the front door for his two new houseguests. This is happening. They’re really here.
He wasn’t ready. And somehow, he knew—deep in the part of him trained to read rooms, predict outcomes—that they were going to change everything.
