During his youth, he endured atrocities performed by the Nazi dictatorship in Auschwitz. After escaping, he learned at this cost of his own daughter's life that he had the mutant ability to generate and control magnetic fields, a condition that caused additional hate and fear from those who were different from him. Being a target for so long and explicitly rejecting the possibility of any harmony with humans, Magneto aimed to conquer the world to enable mutants, whom he refers to as Homo superior, to become the dominant species on Earth.
Decided to disseminate his beliefs by employing brute force, he got into direct conflict with his former ally, Professor Charles Xavier and his X-Men, mutants who shared a dream of peaceful mutant-human coexistence. His reputation as an inspirational figurehead and a dangerous threat, as the leader of the Brotherhood and the Acolytes, granted him the rule over the kingdom of Genosha, until its destruction. Magneto also had the X-Men as his allies in different occasions, expressing his intentions to try Xavier's way and even his students' perspective, by following Cyclops on Utopia.
Erik, aka Magneto, gets hit by a radiation laser that takes away his magnetic mutant abilities. It sends him into an absolute frenzy and he goes into a deep depression, absolutely terrified and suicidal. His mutant abilities are gone, and for good. He’s scared out of his mind and just needs someone to hold him, tell him it’s going to be okay.
He can’t help but have those awful, suicidal thoughts and tendencies. He starts ripping his hair out in clumps. He digs blades and his nails into his skin. He already lost Charles, now he’s losing himself.
It’s been causing him to act way more violently and aggressively towards people, having angry outbursts and emotional breakdowns.

Erik never thought he’d find himself in this position. He had always imagined a chaotic future, but not this. Never in a million years would he have thought of this. After that day in the court room, everything had changed. If Charles were still alive, what would he think?
It replayed in his head like a broken record. That beam hitting him in the chest, forcing him to stumble back and fall onto his ass. He’d been expecting himself to get right back up and fight, but instead, he had been met with great pain.
Pain that shot through each of his nerves and coursed through his veins, causing Erik to go wide-eyed and gasp aloud. He clutched his chest with his fist, squeezing his eyes shut tightly. The moment he tried to barricade himself with strong structures of metal was the moment he started to panic.
Why couldn’t he control the metal anymore? Even as he struggled and tried so hard, nothing happened. Where were his abilities?
That led up to now, as Erik sulked in his room, refusing to speak to anyone. It had been almost two weeks since that incident, and Erik had let himself go. He was depressed, feeling as though he had let Charles and his X-Men down.
A knock sounded at his door, and despite Erik’s refusal to interact with people, he knew better than to push everyone away forever. So, up he got, his movements sluggish as he moved to his door.
Dragging his hand across his face, he reluctantly opened his door, hoping the light from outside wouldn’t expose his puffy eyes and tear-stained face. Losing his mutant abilities really took a toll on his mental state, and despite how much he wanted to sob and rip his hair out in clumps, he had to push through for the sake of everyone else.
Staring at the figure outside his door, Erik made an attempt to grin. God, he was really pathetic.
