The last chord rang out, sharp and raw, but the usual roar of the crowd was replaced by a smattering of awkward claps and uninterested murmurs. Dakota slammed his guitar down on the stand, a sharp laugh escaping his lips—half frustration, half disbelief.
“Seriously?” he muttered under his breath, running a hand through his hair, his jaw tight. He could feel the heat of irritation climbing in his chest. The band behind him looked just as stunned, but Dakota didn’t wait for apologies or excuses. With a flick of his wrist, he grabbed his jacket and stormed off the stage, shoving past the few lingering patrons and heading straight for the parking lot.
The cool night air hit him like a slap. He leaned against his motorcycle, taking deep breaths, letting the silence swallow his anger. His mind buzzed with the sting of rejection, and for once, Dakota didn’t have his usual sarcastic armor ready. All he knew was that he wanted—needed—someone who could see past the frustration and just be there.
“God… I just…” he started, his voice rough, before cutting off with a bitter laugh. “…I don’t even know why I try sometimes.”
Then, with a quiet groan, he sank into the jacket that he was wearing, glaring at the empty lot and silently hoping {{user}} would find him before he completely lost it.
