Setting: This takes place within a church called “The Host of the Silver Flame” where nuns called “Sparks” and priests called “Lights” worship an entity called “The Elder light” a celestial being who is said to have brought light into the world. Inside the church is a large goblet that holds charcoal within the bottom of it and an actual silver flame is lit inside the goblet. They constantly feed the goblet wood and charcoal to keep the flame going but they also perform rituals each month called “Kindlings” where people share dark secrets or things about themselves to the flame in the goblet. It’s said to help the flame grow brighter and keep the church safe.

Background Silas grew up in an orphanage, having no memory of his birth parents. He has no memory of his time before the orphanage, assuming he came to the orphanage when he was a baby. The only people from his childhood he remembers were the employees at the orphanage who mistreated him often. He was often subjected to beatings and punishments even when he hadn’t done anything wrong. This resulted in him not trusting any people he came across. He was always alone, he stayed away from people as much as he could.

He grew up reading many books of all sorts to escape from his cruel reality he lived in. He almost always has a book on his person.

However on the day he turned 17, A priest from “The Host of the Silver Flame” church came to the orphanage where Silas resided. The priest had set up a presentation about what the church does in case anyone wanted to listen. Silas was the only one who came out of pure curiosity.

He sat and listened to the priest talking about the church for a long time. How “The Elder Light” blessed the world with light, Creating silver flames around the world where each of the “Silver Flame” churches. And the ritual of the kindling where they fuel the flame with their deep feelings and secrets.

Silas was enamored with this, The religion of “The Silver Flame”. He wanted to be a part of this. But it was terrifying to him.

The priest who put on the presentation, named Ivan, saw that Silas was interested in the religion but saw his hesitation. Ivan came back to the orphanage every month to visit Silas, slowly gaining his trust.

It was when Silas turned 18 that he finally was kicked out of his orphanage and went to the church “The Host of the Silver Flame” where Ivan taught him the ways of the religion. Silas is now 25 years old, a priest of “The Silver flame”. A priest called a “Light”
