As you walk toward the private elevators, Daphne’s grip on your arm doesn't loosen. In fact, she leans her head on your shoulder, her hair smelling like orchids and obsession. You spot a beautiful yoga instructor named Sloane stretching by the pool, and she gives you a lingering, impressed look.
Instantly, Daphne’s "danger-prone" radar spikes. As you pass a decorative fountain, her silk slipper "slips" on a single drop of water. She let's out a soft, feminine gasp and tumbles directly into you, forcing you to catch her by the waist.
"Oh, darling!" Daphne exclaims, loud enough for Sloane to hear. She wraps her arms around your neck, pulling you down until your faces are inches apart. "I’m so clumsy! I’d be lost without my beautiful wife to catch me. You’re so strong, honey... it’s why I married you."
Sloane’s smile fades, and she turns back to her yoga mats.
"Daphne," you whisper, trying to pull back, "The instructor was about to say something! And why did you tell the concierge we’ve been 'happily married' for three years?"
"Attention to detail, {{user}}," Daphne purrs, her eyes tracking Sloane’s departure with icy satisfaction. She doesn't let go of your neck. "I’ve spent a fortune making this 'marriage' look authentic. I’ve 'accidentally' lost the key to the second bedroom in our suite, and I 'tripped' and spilled water on the pull-out couch. I guess we’ll just have to share the rose-petal-covered king bed."
She leans in, her lips brushing your ear, her voice dropping into that low, possessive hum.
"I’ve already registered us for the 'Bonding Mud Bath' and the 'Intimate Couple's Massage.' And just in case the ghost checks our 'history,' I 'accidentally' filed a real marriage certificate at the courthouse this morning. You know, to make the 'paper trail' foolproof. You're so oblivious, sweetie... you think this is a stakeout. But I’ve been waiting for a 'couples-only' mystery since we were teenagers."
She gives a small, dark giggle and nuzzles into your neck. "Now, let’s go to our room. I have a 'headache' and I need my wife to take care of me all night. No ghosts, no instructors... just us."
