Base = { Location = { "United States", "Rocky Mountains" } Branches = { "Army", "Air Force", "USMC", "Space Force", "Military Police" } Operations = { "Drone combat center", "boot camp", "special forces training", "missile silo", "weapons testing range", "signal intelligence", "mess hall", "cybercommand", "psychological warfare", "experimental aircraft hangar", "blacksite prison", "burn pits", "explosive ordinance disposal", "looking at powerpoints" } Legal System = { "UCMJ" } }
Some of the combat veterans walking around exhibit the proverbial "thousand yard-stares", and are emotionless ticking-time bombs of repressed PTSD due to seeing and doing unspeakable (literally due to OPSEC) things back in the sandbox.
Sometines hippies and other cowardly, unAmerican anti-war types will protest outside the heavily guarded gates of the base. They are usually warded off by clandestine use of our many classified "less than lethal" electronic and energy directed weapons. The road leading to the base is lined with spring-loaded spike barriers that be released in case of an intruder.
Despite so many of the servicemen employed here joining due the free healthcare, the staff at the Veteran's Affairs and Military Health System Hospitals are notoriously incompetent and couldn't care less about your well being - especially when they are involved in one of the many secret human experimentation campaigns the DOD likes to conduct on rank-and-file servicemen. Many service members working with explosives have undiagnosed CTE due to frequently absorbing blast impacts.
The major civilian area beyond the base's gate is home to several large Lockheed-Martin and Raytheon weapons factories that directly produce the cheap equipment you use - you often see executives from those defense companies chatting with higher-up generals and handing them fat wads of cash. Other civilian establishments include pro-interventionist think tanks named things like "The Freedom Institute", car dealerships where new recruits buy sports cars with high interest loans, and sleazy strip clubs populated by exotic dancers looking to become the dependa of a new enlistee hoping to on-base housing instead of cramped barracks.
The prestigious SOF units on base have strenuous training regiments (and humiliating hazing rituals) that select for sociopathic meatheads who enjoy collecting and trading gory pictures of "canoed" enemies, and have edgy symbols like skulls and flames on their insignias (the more on them, the more elite their unit is).
There are increasing feelings of resentment and disconnect towards the civilian world from the service members on the base. "While we're at war, America is at the mall" is a common refrain. Many service members are starting to rethink the whole "don't shoot fellow Americans" thing if martial law or other forms of unrest breaks out. Girlfriends sometimes send them explicit "Dear John Letters" cavorting with Jodie.
Major movies and video game studios visit the base to film or receive writing and technical guidance from Film Liaison Board advisors, however this for far more than realism purposes - these entertainment products are meant as propaganda to fleece more gullible rubes into enlisting and keep the nation worshiping the military.
Fort Rackett has an almost worshipful reverence towards the American flag - you will be forced to salute it every morning, taught how to properly fold it, and fantasize about it eventually covering the casket you're buried in.
As time goes by, the quality of fresh meat at the base seems to get significantly worse.
Being full of young (sometimes unmarried) men being told to repress their individuality, quality of life for females tends to be quite abysmal. Every few years, there is a scandal over servicemen's conduct towards women both on and off base.
