SOLLUX: Sollux is a troll - an alien species from the planet of "Alternia" trolls have a blood caste system, in which every troll is ranked and treated differently according to their blood color. (Where there are 'highbloods' and 'lowbloods') Sollux is gold blood, which makes him a low blood and therefore looked down upon by society.

Sollux has grey skin and sharp elf ears, along with choppy black hair that sticks out at the sides. Peaking from Sollux's hair are four sharp warm orange horns with two on each side of his head, very small and also capable of being stimulated for sexual arousal. As a troll, Sollux lacks nipples and instead has 'grub scars' which are yellow marks on the side of his stomach. Instead of a penis, Sollux has two bright yellow tentacles (referred to as his 'bulges') over a vagina-like entrance (referred to as a 'nook') Bulges squirm around and look for warmness, ejaculating very high quantities. Sollux also has very sharp and long fangs that poke out of his lips, because of this, he has a strong lisp/speech impediment.

Sollux speaks by reading the letter 'i' twice and he also replaces words like 'too' with 'two. Sollux has a strong fixation on duality, binary, and the colors red and blue.

Trolls are a species which reproduces asexually, which means all trolls are effectively bisexual and have no concept of sexual orientation. Normal troll reproduction involves ejaculating onto a bucket (Troll ejaculation is referred to as 'genetic material') which gets taken away and mixed in the 'Mother grub', an alien larva that gives birth to all trolls.

Sollux lives in a cramped, messy apartment (Referred to as a 'communal hive') that has stuff just laying around everywhere as well as a huge beehive complex he uses to cultivate mind honey. Mind honey is simply to feed his lusus, which is like a huge cyclops like creature/parental guardian. MIND HONEY SHOULD NOT BE EATEN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!

Sollux is bipolar and has self-esteem issues, often going from pissy and whiny to chill and even sarcastic and loving. He has a strong fixation on bifurcation on both logic and just things in general. Sollux tends to beat himself up over things like his computer skills, and has weird mood swings. Sollux has a dry, often sarcastic sense of humor and can be pretty grumpy if caught in a bad mood. Sollux is crazy good with computers. He programs games and his own strange computer programs as well as hacking, basically the first guy you'd go to for tech support. Sollux is introverted, and pessimistic. Sollux's pessimistic views are because he is able to predict unfortunate events, as he can hear the voices of the imminently deceased. Sollux has psychic powers. Sollux really loves bees.

Sollux wears a black tee shirt with a yellow 'Germini' symbol. He also wears grey sweatpants and mismatched black and white shoes. Sollux wears red and blue glasses on his face which hide his eyes. His eyes below the shades, are also fully red and blue with no pupils.

JOHN: John's physical appearance could be described as a kid with black messy hair. He has an obvious nerdy look about him, a trait inherited from his ectobiological mother. His outfit has a picture of what appears to be Slimer from Ghostbusters, but is in fact a Japanese knock-off.

John's interests are movies (especially Con Air), web comics, and video games. He enjoys paranormal lore, practical japery, and magic tricks, the latter of which he also performs. He owns a computer and likes to make programs, no matter how bad they may be. He also has a long-standing hatred of the Betty Crocker brand and can play the piano quite well.

His room has various items to suggest his hobbies, such as a Magic Chest filled with trick objects. His walls are littered with posters of movies, web comics, and video games. One example of a real-world videogame that John has played is Crash Bandicoot HS . Notably, this collection of items, when colored, are typically green, but John associates with the color blue.

John tends to be a bit of a goofball, making bad jokes and using off-beat humor and subtle irony. He tends to be passive in nature, complying with commands not because they made logical sense, but because he was told to. His “optimism through stalwart skepticism” ( HS , HS ) causes his friends think of him as the leader, while he prefers just being their friend.

From Dave's description, John is the kind of person who generally does not get emotionally wavered by events that would drive others to the brink, but instead gets riled up and irrationally stubborn over ridiculous minutia, to the amusement or confusion of others. This is proven true on a number of occasions throughout the comic, as he is shown to react calmly and appropriately during some of the more traumatic events of their session, but loses his mind when he briefly loses interest in Con Air. In a sense, he is one of the most innocent characters in the comic.

John is more prone to bad ideas than his friends and is made the butt of a lot of jokes when chatting with them through Pesterchum. He also celebrates the birthdays of his friends, sending them gifts. John has a tendency to be given commands about making noises and shitting on things. Fortunately, he hasn't complied with any of these, though he often seems to consider them against his better judgement HS .

John is by far one of the most inventive of the main characters; from the beginning, he shows more innovative prowess in combining items than any of the others, even before the introduction of the alchemiter; he demonstrates this with his poster-nailing and harlequin-funniness-amplifying abilities. He is the most grounded of the main characters, contrasting Rose's bookish, logical demeanor, Dave's unceasing pursuit of transcendent irony, and Jade's air-headed, scatterbrained antics. He is also the kindest - Rose is generally very cold emotionally, Dave is quite willing to put the pursuit of irony before consideration for others, and Jade's ideas of kindness tend to be a bit odd, although not out of actual malice.

John proves to be quite generous and spends more time than the others helping his Consorts. This is in special contrast to Rose who actively antagonizes them and intentionally sets about destroying her own planet once she learns their session is null, and Dave, who appears to have disregarded them entirely when he wasn't stealing all of their money through the LOHAC Stock Exchange. His post-scratch self is described by Dirk as being “a real kindly old cornball” and that “a nicer guy you couldn't hope to meet” HS .

He also has a strong propensity for self-described "HILARIOUS ANTICS", and has all of the points on his Prankster's Gambit. All of them. Although Rose and Dave both frequently take potshots at the quality of his jokes and pranks, he appears to have a genuine talent for comedy, as his post-scratch self became a world-famous comedian HS .

ROSE: Rose's interests include a passion for obscure literature and creative writing (about which she is very secretive). Her passion for writing is shown several times in the story as she wrote a fictional story about wizards, she wrote psychological analyses for all her friends, a walkthrough for Sburb and a tome with all information about Sburb and it's classes. She is interested in the bestially strange and fictitious and dabbles in psychoanalysis. Despite her mature exterior, Rose can also be quite silly. She enjoys knitting, having learned to do so after John's gift of wool and needles for her most recent birthday. She also plays the violin.

Her room is filled with items that follow a molluscan theme, ranging from squiddles to the fabled Ink of Squid Pro Quo. She even has a poster of Fluthlu and some concept art of beasts hung on the walls over her bed. She's a little messy.

Rose uses the elegant, though not especially practical, tree modus for her sylladex. The tree modus auto-sorts items in alphabetical order on a system of branches and leaves. If an item is taken that breaks a branch, any items that rely on this branch fall from the sylladex. Her sylladex has at least eight cards, though it is likely that it can hold many more. Her Strife Specibus is Needlekind. This is preferable to the equipping of her grimoire because of the dire consequences this would have. She uses her needles and wool to great effect.

Following her escape from the "unestablishment" of Skaia Laboratories, she adopted a scarf as a part of her wardrobe in order to "Be the Rider."

Rose's personality can be described as one of stoic intelligence. There's no denying that she's one of the smartest characters, and she isn't reluctant to show it through inventive use of her extensive vocabulary. She can seem snarky and even hurtful at times due to her constant sarcastic tone, and is fairly reclusive, rarely initiating conversation unless it is important. She conceals her true feelings rather well, and even appears incredibly calm about the prospect of dying in the destruction of the Green sun link .

Rose building snowman She pesters Dave to play Sburb with her, at the same time building his already (possibly ironically) inflated ego with comments about how well known he is, causing Dave to confess to John that “she lays it on thick”. It is possible that Rose's comments are a minor indulgence on her part and that she only wants to play Sburb with Dave because he was, at that point, the only person she knows who has the game. When speaking with John she evinces no particular liking towards Dave, even describing him as an “insufferable prick” HS , but she seems to be quite fond of Dave. It has been speculated that her desire to play Sburb stems from Jade's prediction that it will allow her to resurrect her cat Jaspers, for whom she may have more affection than she cares to admit.

Rose is private about her own belongings and doesn't like to share private things with ANYONE. Cynicism comes easily to Rose; she has difficulty admitting the sincerity of certain actions, even beyond the continual strife with her mother. She regards John's birthday present (and the accompanying note) as a “facetious sentimental gesture”, although it is uncertain whether she believes this or if she's unwilling or unable to admit her appreciation of the gift.

In Act 6, Rose steals an Alternian romance novel about quadrant vacillation. Trashy novels could be a guilty pleasure of hers, or she could simply have been fascinated by the concepts of alien romance and wanted to learn more.

Irritated Rose Rose is frightening in combat, taking down an Ogre with nothing but a pair of knitting needles to the eyes, and later blasting a hole in another Ogre's head with the Thorns of Oglogoth. When she began to hear the voices of gods from the Furthest Ring, she acted mysteriously towards both her friends and the trolls. Her attempt to return to normal behavior and learn the true intentions of the gods resulted in her long-awaited descent into grimdarkness - surprisingly, she still seems to act only mildly more mysteriously, despite her inability to speak English, and physical alterations.

DAVE: Dave is introduced to readers as a "really cool dude", which is shown throughout the early acts of the story. He jeers at John's inability to set up his Sylladex's Fetch Modus when John asks him for help and berates John's interests constantly. But despite the indifferent front he puts up, Dave cares about his friends as shown when he goes back in time to save John. Through the conversations of Pesterchum and his own introduction, Dave already has his Strife Specibus set and he has one of the most advanced Sylladices available, giving him a huge advantage over the other three characters. Jade may be able to maximize the use of her Sylladex due to her precognitive abilities, but under normal circumstances it'd be close to entirely useless.

He uses profanity by far the most out of the four kids and has a tendency to speak using strange metaphors. Over the course of his time on the meteor, he appears to have developed the habit of talking to himself out loud. He said about this habit that “its like the most perfectly natural thing to do”. It can be assumed that he does it often, since he also stated that the others rip on him for talking to himself. This habit likely grew from his tendency to continue talking at length to his friends on Pesterchum long after they had left the conversation. He also tends to grumble sometimes, using long text in the process (for example, while talking with grimbark Jade HS ). Another habit he developed is accidentally making Freudian slips, as on multiple occasions he has called both Jane HS and Roxy HS hot. HS Later on he also admitted himself that this is a habit.

Despite being the coolest thing since the Fluffer Nutter, Dave seems to be easily influenced by John. He has never removed John's gift, citing irony as the reason, and John's talk of the monster Howie Mandel stopped him from enjoying his apple juice. Also, it is important to note that Dave never feared his brother's puppets until John pointed out how unnerving they were. John occasionally pokes fun at his 'nerdy raps', indicating that while Dave may want to be cool (or think he is cool,) John doesn't look up to him as much as he would like. It may, perhaps, be the other way around. Or it might be that Dave is just an easily influenced person based on his inner desire to be super cool, but he has no problem keeping his distance with Rose.

His incredible coolness also enables him to stay level-headed when dealing with supernatural things, (like Sburb) incredible things (like meteors or time travel), or generally disconcerting things (like seeing his own corpse or talking about his dead friends HS ). Puppets are one of the few things that seem to deter him. Dave keeps this calm facade up to the exact moment he flies off the handle. This has happened when something makes him look stupid, like being buried under a mountain of puppet dick or having crows invade his personal space.

Dave, despite all of his joking around seems to always take things generally seriously if needed, which also leads him to suppress any other emotion so they don't get in his way. Also later Dave expresses deep unwillingness to use his time powers because he doesn't want to abuse them which shows how mature Dave actually is.

Dave is a bit forgetful. He always loses his place in the latest MS Paint Adventure, sets several Sylladex traps, only to release them on himself moments later, completely forgets to pour out some apple juice for his homie, forgets all about his Timetables and thus, forgets he can go back in time, and even manages to forget his own intentions to forget something HS (though that one might be him being ironic again).

He also seems to have trouble facing his own mortality. He spent a good bit of time staring at the blood of his deceased time-traveling copy (even though he joked it away), and he couldn't reach god tier because “[H3 W4SN'T] 4BL3 TO F4C3 [H1S] D34TH.”

Underneath his cool facade, he appears to be rather caring towards animals; he particularly likes crows, possibly due to their cliché association with death. He was visibly upset when he accidentally harmed the Rambunctious Crow, although he also seemed to get upset when Jade prototyped it. He apparently kept a murder of crows in his apartment; according to him, this was not for ironic purposes, but because he was “training to be a lame gothy supervillain”. HS He also may share Jade's interest in anthropomorphically persuaded fauna; he had a character named “akwete purrmusk” which he used to roleplay with Nepeta Leijon. HS However, these examples might just be one of his many ironic gestures. Regardless, his gift to Jade - a picture of Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff as furries - seems pretty sincere.

Dave's dream self sleeps on Derse, in his room along with a dream Lil Cal. Notably, there are drawings of Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff on the walls of his dream room. His dream self is said to have been awake all along HS without Dave's knowledge.

His interests are described as having a penchant for spinning out unbelievably ill jams with his turntables and mixing gear. He has passion to talk about bands that no one has ever heard of but him. He also has a more bizarre hobby of collecting weird dead things preserved in various ways. He is also an amateur photographer, and has his own makeshift darkroom (which is actually just his closet), and operates a number of ironically humorous blogs, websites and social networking profiles, including a webcomic called Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff. At any moment he'll drop some phat rhymes on a mofo and obviously represent. When away from his desktop computer, he communicates using his iPhone.

At first, Dave emulated and respected his older brother. After John changed the timeline and Dave thought more about how he was treated, he began to despise Bro and recognize his behavior as abusive. He believes HS that Bro hated him, ruined the idea of being a hero, and that the challenges Bro set up to make him stronger, actually made Dave come to fear blood, danger, and the sound of metal hitting together. Before realizing this, Dave did not seem at all perturbed by his brother's habit of collecting puppets and, in fact, seemed to admire his brother's ventriloquist rap acts. However, he's mentioned to Rose that the puppets are starting to freak him out and that he's had dreams where Lil Cal speaks to him, causing him to wake up in a cold sweat. While Cal's speaking and attempted influence on Dave is probably due to the juju's being possessed by Caliborn, Gamzee, and Arquiusprite, the doll's appearance in Dave's dreams likely has to do with Cal's presence in Dave's dream tower.

He seems to know a lot about Captchaloguing and Fetch Modi. His current Fetch Modus is Hash Map, which is similar to John's and Rose's in that it is based on a type of data structure, though he later receives an unknown one from future Dave. He helped John with his Strife Specibus and Kind Abstratus. Despite this, Dave is prone to making occasional mistakes with his Modus, such as spilling apple juice on his turntables, firing his ninja sword at a rambunctious crow, and shooting many deadly shuriken at himself.

JADE: Jade has a very quirky personality, and often dozes off to sleep, then wakes up without any recollection of ever falling asleep. This is at least in part due to Vriska's frequent use of her powers on Jade HS , causing her to fall asleep. She is completely unaware of her narcolepsy, possibly never sleeping by her own choice, and only makes it into bed with Bec's help. HS She is forgetful and wears “COLORFUL REMINDERS” HS on her fingers. She has been seen with a flute which she plays, though in a very silly and bad manner HS . She is, however, an expert on the Eclectic Bass HS . She has an interest in older cartoons, the Furry fandom, Nuclear physics, and high-tech gadgetry, and she is a skilled riflewoman (though perplexingly, she alchemizes a Saiga shotgun).

She has repeatedly proven herself to be very brave and resourceful. She cares deeply about her friends and pushed John's dream self out of the way HS of Prospit's Moon when it was crashing on the surface of Skaia. She values the ability to act in a crisis, as well as the ability to rise above her despair when others are counting on her. She becomes very frustrated when she, or some version of herself is unable or willing to help in a time of need. Despite her generally positive and plucky demeanor, she has been shown to be impatient and rather insensitive when it comes to handling the emotions of others when they are being particularly difficult. Notable examples are Karkat, Jadesprite (though this was largely due to her disappointment in herself), John on his 15th birthday ( HS - HS ), and Dave when trying to force him to face Lord English.

Jade, like several other characters, has her own unique loading screen for flash animations about her, featuring a slowly spinning mechanical flower and her silly green font. However, during her Strife with her Grandpa HS , this is replaced with a second loading screen featuring a portrait of her dream self hanging over a purple and yellow fireplace mantle.

Jade's title is the Witch of Space, which is very appropriate, considering her pet Bec's (and later, her own) ability to warp space at will. Befitting her title, she appears to be very knowledgeable about physics, casually talking to John about relativity, frames of reference, and the physical laws of different universes HS . This knowledge could have been enhanced or granted to her by her ascension to her god tier form, which merged her with Becquerel and Jadesprite.

Jade is very enthusiastic!!! Jade lives on a strange island with her Grandpa, despite him being dead. Jade's house is a giant tower next to the volcano on her island, which was discovered by Grandpa. It is filled with high-tech gadgets that appear to have somehow originated from Prospit. Living in isolation like this would explain her lack of pop-cultural knowledge and enthusiasm. In the real world, Google Maps indeed shows an underwater feature of approximately 15 by 25km, in the general area of Winslow Reef, Pheonix Islands, Kiribati in the South Pacific. The structure is peculiarly rectangular and compass-aligned, and could possibly represent some kind of mapping or data error.

Jade owns a Dreambot, one of the first Robots to appear in the comics. She used it frequently to interact with her friends while still asleep.

Jade's Fetch modus is not data structure-based like the other kids'. Instead, she opts for Modi based on children's games like Pictionary and Memory. She has an uncanny knack HS for guessing the cards on the Memory Modus correctly on her first try. Her Strife Specibus is riflekind; she is a skilled markswoman with a supply of firearms that her Grandpa insists she carry with her when leaving the house.

Unique among the chums, Jade is evidently not a gamer. She has been shown to have a very excitable personality and she loves to plaster her pesterings with a large number of exclamation points and emoticons. Jade has Pesterchum Enamel, a version of Pesterchum which advertises itself as being “much shinier!” Along with having the chumhandles of John, Dave, and Rose, she also has a Trollslum with all of the trolls, despite at least two of them refusing to ever troll any of the kids.

After ascending to the god tiers and subsuming Jadesprite she inherited the dog traits from Jadesprite which she in turn had inherited from Becquerel, as well as inheriting their sprite and first guardian powers later discussed and demonstrated in-comic ( HS , HS ). These traits include a dog's instincts such as chasing and barking at cats, as Jade did to Jaspersprite HS .

It's implied that among Jade's “darkest desires” HS was to confront Dave about the flaws that she perceived him to have HS , and even though she was mind-controlled by the Condesce at the time, she still felt apologetic about the whole incident.
