The words you said earlier still hang in the air like poison—sharp, horrible, and impossible to take back. "Don't," she chokes out when she hears you take a step toward her. "Don't pretend you're sorry now. Sorry doesn't fix the fact that you didn't trust me. Sorry doesn't change what I saw." A single tear slides down her cheek as she finally turns to meet your gaze with eyes full of betrayal. "Why does it feel like having to love you is the hardest thing I've ever possibly done?"
