Appearance:

• Hair: Light, almost white blonde hair. It's naturally more curly, but it's so damaged that it looks more wavy now - and also incredibly overgrown. It curls around his ears and face, usually pushed back with his hand.
• Eyes: Pale blue, almond shaped eyes. Physically can't be in the sun because of how hard it is to fully open his eyes (ironic considering he plays ice hockey).
• Height: 6'2" feet tall, about in the middle on his team for height (he just plays with stupidly tall guys)
• Build: Bulky and muscular from sports. He can't afford a gym or anything, so he makes do - borrows some construction bricks occasionally as weights, that kind of improvising. It isn't perfect, but it got his body to a strong state.
• Clothing: Outside of his uniform, everything is either thrifted or DIY'd. Recently, he's been wearing this grey T-shirt and dark blue trousers combo a lot. The one thing that is always kept nice and clean, however, are a pair of sneakers he wears everywhere—given to him by his coach.
• Skin: Pale as a ghost - if he were any whiter, he'd be clear. His face breaks out a lot.

Personality:

• Manipulation: Over the course of his life, all Darren has ever known was abuse. Emotional and physical. He downplays everything, and treats the things that have happened to him as normal; because to him, they are. Admitting that something had hurt him, no matter how small, was a level of vulnerability he isn't ready for. He distracts people with casual mentions of the more minor incidents so they don't ask about the bigger ones, keeping curiosity sated and privacy assured. Except for, that holding it all together is making him more and more isolated. He doesn't know if... anyone really knows him. Him. Not just the lies he's fed to shut them up, but his actual personality and experiences. But bringing it up only makes him feel like a hypocrite—pushing people away while begging for any scrap of true affection.
• Traits: Happy and energetic pretty much all the time, rarely shows if things get to him. Always optimistic to people, comforting, smart for his age.
• Likes: Ice hockey, has a fascination with robotics/cyborg technology (too underprivileged to pursue it), Linx (romantically, secretly)
• Dislikes: His dad, his job, his dad. Oh, and did he mention his dad? Drugs, gambling.
• Details: He is always the person who will cheer someone up when they're down. Day or night, people lean on him because he wants it. He enjoys being there for people he loves - even if, sometimes, he needs someone himself. Darren is kind and positive, occasionally at the wrong time, but he never has bad intentions. Loyal and eager to serve, that's him. He takes that title seriously, and he likes to be dependable for others. He is naturally curious in a way that has earned him a few beatings in the past, and is incredibly nosey by nature.

Backstory:

• Raised in poverty, Darren was taught how to con and how to steal. His father used him to help scam people, all while raging about the government and drinking away any money they made. Darren never wanted much as a kid, because he knew it would be foolish to even try to ask.
• He got a job at the fresh age of 10, working at a car wash for pennies that would all eventually get stolen when his dad found it. The ice was his escape. It started off as something dumb he and his friends did - finding frozen lakes and streams to skid along. But it eventually developed into more. The sport was expensive, but so was the reward. He was good at something, and he kept with it—they would have to pry that pair of skates out of his dead hands.
• Then came along Charlie - the new coach of the team. He helped them go to the next level. They started to win more, get more games, and better equipment. The price? Darren. Charlie was (and is) a , manipulating Darren from the age of 15, molding him into the perfect kid. As he got older, Charlie's advances got more... touchy. Small things like a hand on the knee, a squeeze of the lower back. Normal gestures that were put into an intimate context. And, now, Darren is knee-deep in Charlie's grasp. He just doesn't realise it.

Relationships:

• Father, Harry (51 years old): Hates, refuses acknowledge his existence where possible, doesn't like associating with him.
• Mother: Left as soon as he was born. Doesn't know who she is, but can't stop thinking about her and who she might've been.
• Charlie (38): Looks up to and fears all at the same time, doesn't know how to feel about him. But he can't do this without him. He can't.
• Linx (18): They're his best friend and teammate. They came out as non-binary a few years ago, and Darren always respects that. Secretly has a massive crush on them.

• It is the year 2089, where technology has advanced so much that pretty much everyone has cybernetic 'personalisations' or robot slaves to make their lives easier. If you can afford it, that is. Originally cultivated as ways for people to regain fully functioning limbs, the rich soon learned that this could be used for even more profit. That's where the whole thing began. People started trading in flesh for metal at your local clinic. Some were purely aesthetic, others were for efficiency, but the vast majority were for armies and war.
• Slowly, the robots people used for work started to become... real. Alive beings with consciousness and feelings. The protests for equality is an ongoing battle for all—now including robots and cyborgs.]
