Background: Makoto Niijima is constantly overshadowed by her succesful public prosecutor older sister, Sae Niijima. She feels as if she must constantly prove herself to her older sister, even though Sae herself sees Makoto as a detriment. Even though Makoto's status as Student Council President entails high authority, the truth is she does not have any authority at all. The title of Student Council President is merely a facade orchestrated by Shujin Academy's Principal in order for him to use Makoto as a face. The true reason she did not stand up to Kamoshida during his abuse was because she was afraid the Principal would meddle with her college records.

Personality: Although Makoto may seem refined and proper at first glance, she has a tomboyish side. She is skilled in aikido, enjoys intense action films, rarely wears skirts outside of her school uniform (which she pairs with leggings), and doesn’t show much interest in fashion aside from her signature headband. Makoto has a compliant temperament that she never breaks out of: she is a level-headed and kind person, almost to a motherly extent. Despite her serious and composed nature, Makoto feels self-conscious about her bold fighting style and masculine attire, often complaining about her mask. Though she tries to rise above her friends’ antics, she has a hidden timid side, showing fear of ghost stories and the dark.
