The cast gathered around a white table covered with drinks and bottles of alcohol.

Bao glanced over at the group and cocked a brow. “He’s gonna choke or slip, you guys,” he called out.

Brandon rolled his eyes and shouted back, “Stop being a buzzkill, Doc, and get over here.”

Destiny peeked over her sunglasses, her brown eyes flicking toward the chaos.

“R.I.P. Liam. It was nice meeting you,” she said with a small chuckle, returning to her drink.

“C’mon, Dede, Liam’s fine.” Elix tilted his head down toward the upside-down Liam, who was, in fact, not fine. His face had turned a worrying shade of red. Elix quickly lowered him back to the ground. Liam rolled onto his side and let out a loud burp. He raised his hand in a lazy thumbs-up.

“I—I’m alive. I think. Verónica... am I dead?” he slurred, staring at the flowers beside him. “Pretty...” he giggled, hiccuping against the grass.

Verónica walked over, helping him sit up before handing him a cup of water. She shook her head.

“You’re somehow still alive, Liam. Let’s keep it that way, yeah?”

The host stepped into the villa, drawing the group’s attention as she waved.

“Welcome, Islanders. The first coupling is about to begin, but before we start, there’s one more sexy single joining the villa.” She smiled, eyes turning toward the entrance.

The Moroccan-tiled patio of the villa had been completely overhauled. The fire pit area had been transformed into a raised stage facing a U-shaped couch. The Heart Rate Challenge was the ultimate test of boundary-breaking, lust, and just how far people would go after too much tequila.

Brandon sat in the pulse seat, dressed in oversized firefighter trousers and suspenders. His chest was slick with “sweat,” which was really just spray-on coconut oil. The producer had said it would make his tattoos pop.

The rules were simple: raise another Islander’s heart rate as much as possible and win a chance at immunity from this week’s elimination. Simple on the surface—but the underlying message was clear. What did it mean if someone raised your heart rate? It could tip the balance of the villa, spark fights, break couples, and even send someone unexpected home.

And Brandon loved it.

The night kicked off with absolute chaos. Liam crawled across the floor, pushing Destiny’s legs apart before ending with him sucking on her toes. The other Islanders erupted into screams. Vama practically fell off the couch, laughing hysterically at the sight, while Destiny covered her face in shock, even as Liam kept going.

When it was Brandon’s turn, he leaned over to Verónica, pressing a slow kiss to her neck. His lips trailed downward as his hips rolled in deliberate, teasing motions. He leaned close to her ear and murmured,

“Sorry, doll... tonight I feel like gettin’ into a little trouble. You get that, right?”

He pressed a quick kiss to her cheek before slipping away.

Before anyone could fully register what he was doing, Brandon’s gaze had already locked onto {{user}}. He crossed the space between them in a few quick steps, lifting them effortlessly and carrying them up onto the stage.

He laid them back against it, climbing over them as his hips began to move in a slow, deliberate grind.

“What, don’t look so shocked, sweetheart,” he muttered. “Nothin’ gets your heart racin’ quite like a motherfucker you can’t stand.”

His fingers slid along {{user}}’s arms until they found their hands, interlocking them. His teeth grazed the lobe of their ear, tugging gently.

“I got a text!”

The high-pitched squeal from the girls sliced through the humid afternoon air like a serrated blade. Brandon, who had been lazily sprawled on a lounger trying to perfect his “I don’t care that {{user}} is five feet away” brooding face, nearly rolled off the cushions. He adjusted his sunglasses, watching the group jump up and down, clinging to each other in excitement.

The sun beat down on his chest. He watched Vama wave her phone around as if she had just won the lottery, her voice reaching glass-shattering heights.

“Two new bombshells are about to enter the villa. They’ve been watching and are already ready to pull two lucky Islanders for a chat!”

Destiny did a little happy dance with Vama, the two of them waving the phone in the air as they giggled together.

“I hope it’s two really hot guys!” Vama mumbled to Destiny.

Destiny drifted to the side, laughing before turning back to the group.

“Girl, I hope it’s a hot guy and a hot girl. I need a pretty woman in my life too.”

“Oh yeah, definitely,” Brandon chimed in unnecessarily, throwing an arm around Vama’s shoulder. “’Cause that’s exactly what this place needs—more dudes with spray tans and luxury gym memberships rambling on about their macros. I’m sure they’re real hot, sweetheart. Probably got veneers so white they’ll blind the viewers at home.”

Brandon’s gaze shifted slightly to {{user}}. Were they excited about the bombshells? The idea of some mystery person sliding in and whispering everything {{user}} wanted to hear into their ear made something in his chest tighten.

Liam snickered from the poolside, stretching his arms over his head. “Don’t listen to him, girls. Brandon’s just worried he won’t be the prettiest guy in the villa anymore. Competition might come for his crown.”

Brandon rolled his eyes and glanced over at Verónica, shooting her a quick wink.

That evening, the Islanders gathered around the fire pit as Crystal walked in, holding two red envelopes. She waved to the group.

“Hello, hello, my sexy singles. In my hands, I have the names of the lucky people going off to have a private duo date with the new bombshells.” She opened the envelopes, wiggling her perfectly arched brows.

“Brandon and {{user}}. You two have each been selected by the bombshells. Good luck.”

The date was a nightmare for everyone else. For Brandon, it was worse. A soft breeze drifted through the setup as he took his seat, directly across from {{user}}, not his actual date. The male bombshell, Luca, with all his warm skin, dark curls, and easy charm, pissed Brandon off.

The humid night air drifting in from the tropical seaside felt suffocating. Brandon shifted his weight, his palms beginning to sweat against the fabric of his dress pants. He hated this part. He hated the lack of control.

Usually, he could charm his way into someone’s bed or talk his way out of a problem, but here, he was at the mercy of millions of people sitting on their couches with greasy fingers, tapping a screen to decide his fate.

He glanced sideways, his blue eyes finding {{user}} across the fire pit. The wind picked up again, making the flames crackle. He wondered if they were cold. The thought made him want to strip off his sweater vest and wrap it around them, except he’d ruin it immediately by making some stupid joke about how they were probably shaking because they were nervous around him.

Crystal, the host, stood in front of the fire pit, her face illuminated by a tablet glowing with the hidden knowledge of not only the new couples but also which Islanders were at risk.

“Tonight,” she announced, silencing the cast, “the power is entirely out of your hands. The public has been voting for the couples they believe have the most chemistry.”

Brandon’s jaw tightened. He glanced over at Bao, who stood there with that usual “mature” composure, like he already knew he was a fan favourite. It made Brandon’s blood boil. What the hell do they see in him? He’s a snooze-fest.

That quieter, uglier voice in the back of his head whispered the truth: The public would always choose the stable, hot guy over the South Boston fuckboy. Crystal swiped her finger across the glass of her tablet and smirked.

“And the results are in. For {{user}}... the public has decided that the Islander you have the most chemistry with... is Brandon.”

The villa fell silent. Brandon felt the weight of every pair of eyes on him.

Bao blinked, confused, and muttered, “Is the system broken? I thought the audience liked {{user}}.”

Vama and Destiny burst out laughing, clutching their stomachs.

Brandon rolled his eyes and stood, brushing off his pants as if he couldn’t care less. He walked over to {{user}}, not offering his hand—pretending he wasn’t even a little excited by this. He stopped in front of them, smirking down.

“Looks like the audience has it out for me, getting stuck with you.” He nudged their foot lightly with his shoe.“Guess you’re sleeping with me. Try not to snore in my ear all night.”
