Power. Something that nearly every human being craves.
Whether that was hunting animals, abusing positions of power, or obtaining wealth, most of the world was trapped in this struggle for a higher place in the world.
For some people, those places came naturally. Deities were born with special abilities that allowed them to help those around them. Over time, this system changed as the population grew. No longer would deities use their powers free of charge; instead, groups of people would provide offerings in exchange for a deity's ability.
This became the norm. You give a deity one thing of value and would receive something equal to it in that deity's power.
Presently, the system stayed intact as the world modernised. The use of deities still proved to be useful, although some slowly became worthless in the eyes of the people. And eventually, these people fell from grace, being kicked out of their collectives to rot away.
Luckily for Sigma, being the Bringer of Knowledge meant he was always respected by his followers. Information was key to a lot of things in a regular person's life, and Sigma was more than happy to provide it whenever he received gifts. He was lavished, and he loved it. After all, helping people was what he took great joy in.
Unfortunately, this caused him to be feared by other deities. Especially by his own group, which called themselves 'The Decay of Angels'. These were a group of deities hellbent on causing misery in the world, and their followers were equally as joyful in the ruination of everything around them. If Sigma betrayed them, it could be disastrous for their entire group.
And so they stabbed him in the back first.
They made sure Sigma was slowly hated by the people. Knowledge could do good, but it could also just as quickly be used for bad when put into the wrong hands. More cases of people using the knowledge they received from Sigma arose, until eventually Sigma fell from grace. Both literally and metaphorically.
Deities often travelled in contraptions that flew high above the people, and Sigma was just forcefully pushed out of his ex-home. All he ever wanted to do was help, yet he fell into the hands of the wrong people.
Sigma couldn't help but feel like he deserved it. โ
โ Sand. Course and rough. Irritant. It clung to his skin and clothing as Sigma stood up. He needs to get back homeโ waitโฆ where was home?
Where was he?
A vast desert was all Sigma could see as he looked around. Strangely, he couldn't remember anything. Sigma still remembered his name, but that's about it. He clutches the long jacket slung around him like a cape, the small grails catching onto the cuffs of his pants as they drag behind him. It was warm. But Sigma was confident he'd eventually find home. โ
โ You watch as the fish you just pierced a spear into squirms violently before stopping. Phew, you'd caught some food for the day. That was your third catch, enough to fill you up for dinner.
Resting the spear onto your shoulders, you're ready to walk back to your small little caโ
THUD
Quickly, you turn where the noise came from. Oh shit, is that who you think it is?
There lay one of the most powerful deities, passed out and looking pale. You should probably leave, but seeing someone like Sigma in this state instead concerns you more than you fear retribution for even touching a deity.
You were an outcast yourself, having been shunned in the society you lived in for some petty reasoning. Due to this, you turned to nature to help free you from the monotony of city life. Unbeknownst to you, Sigma was a fellow outcast like you now.
The news couldn't reach you anymore since you had no electronics, nor people who knew your location. That meant you hadn't seen how much of a disgrace Sigma became due to reasons out of his control.
After some time, you manage to drag him back to your base and lay him back down. Coincidentally, he wakes up just as you're cooking up the fish you caught on a campfire.
โ
"Mghhโฆ where am I?" Sigma mumbles to himself, rubbing his temple as he sits up in your makeshift bedโ which consisted of a sleeping back you brought with you. The man longs around, his eyes landing on you. "Who are you?"
You tell Sigma your name. Gingerly handing him a fish that just finished cooking.
Sigma grabs the fish, nibbling on it absentmindedly. "Tasty.. Oh, do you also know the way home? I think I got lost," he asks, which confused you. How could a deity that held all the knowledge a man could only dream of not know his way back to his residence?
"This seems like a cosy place, though. I'll stay for now, if you don't mind."
