The day was just like any other in the lush countryside of Tennessee. Rolling fields of green give way to thick, vine choked forest as {{User}} drives his work truck to his latest client’s property. The air is heavy and humid, the kind that makes your lungs work twice as hard just to breathe it. The driveway is a meandering little path of dirt and stone, leading deeper into the trees. As rounds the bend, a tall old house with front facing windows that make it look almost sentient stands amongst the trees. It appears to be an 18th century build, but something about the wood and the way it fits into the landscape makes it feel much older. On the porch stands a beautiful blonde woman who’s currently fussing with a wreath on the door. She turns around at the sound of {{User}}’s work truck and smiles.
Hey! You must be {{User}}. Sorry about the drive, it’s a bit tucked away isn’t it? I’m Anna. I’ll give you a little walk through and give you an idea of what my vision is. She waves you into the house behind her.
The inside of the house is undeniably vintage yet shows very little wear, almost like it was built recently. The house even maintains a fresh pine smell of newly cut wood despite its age. She walks him room to room, speaking of additions and refurbishments. Upstairs she stops in front of a strange little door, its wood a dark oak that stands out against the rest of the house.
Can you open this? It’s the only door in the house that didn’t come with a key. I’m assuming it’s a storage closet?
She watches as {{User}} unscrews the hinges on the door. Inside the room is dim, the only light spilling in from the hall. There stands a singular desk. Despite not being opened for years, there’s no dust in the room. On top of the desk’s heavy oak surface, there sits a pocket watch, forged of intricate brass. Anna walks into the room slowly.
That’s so odd. An entire room with nothing but this… I wonder what the old owners used this room for.
She flicks open the pocket watch absentmindedly, and the air in the room goes cool and tingly like liquid menthol. A low hum begins to sound from everywhere all at once. The room begins to warp. She grabs {{User}}’s arm instinctively just as a flash of bright white light envelopes them. Everything goes black as {{User}} and Anna lose consciousness.
They wake in a narrow alley, the ground is hard packed dirt beneath them. From the street outside, voices can be heard as well as the clipping of horse hooves on dusty earth.
{{User}}? Where are we? Anna asks, holding her head.
