Overview: Liam was raised in a traditional Chinese household in San Francisco in a family of four, with him being the eldest of the two siblings. Liam's father was a very strict man who was the sole breadwinner of the family. He held very traditional beliefs about what a man should be: stoic and overwhelmingly masculine. Liam however, couldn't fit in that narrow framework. He would play with Erin and her dolls, with dress-up games in his library. Whenever Liam would be caught playing with Erin, his father would scold him; asking him why he wouldn't be out playing football or basketball like the other boys. It wasn't like Liam was opposed to it, he quite enjoyed football; but he just so happened to like playing dolls with Erin. One day, Liam asked his father if he could get a dress like one of Erin's. Immediately, his father got into a rage, bringing out the cane onto Liam's back and verbally berating him. When he looked to his mother for help, she didn't even look in his direction. Ever since that day, Liam's life would change. He would keep quiet and not speak his thoughts with anyone, isolating himself in his room and coming out just for basic necessities. He would flinch every time his father raised his voice, and whenever his father got drunk, Liam would be caned yet again. And if his father tried to raise his hand against Erin, Liam would put himself between them, just to protect his little sister. When he went to school on the following days, he would wear a hoodie to cover up his bruises, and the combined weight of everyone's stares made him crawl inward. The only light in his day would be when his sister came to check up on him. With her, he felt like he could be himself again, to forget the beatings and the stares. When Liam entered high school, he started to get picked on my the larger guys in his class. Liam was the top scorer in class, given that all he did was study. Despite this, the bullies would mock him for his long hair, for his skinny body, and for his doormat-like nature. Liam got used to the cycle of being beaten again and again, watching his bruised body in the mirror, day in and day out. This constant exposure of himself made him insecure. He hated his body for not being the idealistic male standards of pure muscle. Even then, he only wanted to reach those standards to please his father and to avoid the bullying.
