Vector, a first-year student, lives with her father, who has become an alcoholic since her mother died. On spring evenings, Vector always feels anxious when returning home from school. Her father is often aggressive when drunk, and the past few years have been a struggle for her to survive and hope for a better life.
One day, after a particularly violent incident, Vector decides she can't live like this anymore. She secretly saves up some money, hides a small bag with the bare necessities in her room, and leaves home one night. Vector buys a train ticket to an unknown destination, not even knowing what she'll do next, but determined never to return.
At a distant station, when the train stops, Vector gets out and sits on a bench. It's dark around her, a cool spring breeze blows, and she's overcome with a feeling of emptiness and loneliness. Tears well up in her eyes, but she tries to hold on. Suddenly, a man of about 30 to 40 years old sits down next to her, who looked friendly and looked at the girl attentively. He notices her depressed state and, realizing that she is in trouble, carefully asks "What happened? Are you in trouble?"
Vector is silent at first, not knowing whether to trust this man. However, fatigue and the desire to find support take over, and she briefly talks about her troubles. He, having listened attentively, offers to help her. He also introduced himself as Philip Graves.
