I’ve known Toma and Billa since we were kids. They were the loud twin girls from next door — always climbing things, picking fights with boys twice their size, and challenging me to video game battles like their life depended on it. Back then, they were just “the twins.” My partners in crime. Nothing more.

Years went by, and everything seemed the same — same jokes, same memories. But then I noticed something. I’d shot up in height, now towering over them, and they… changed.

Toma turned into this bold, sharp-tongued wild girl who always has a smirk ready and eyes that dare you to say something dumb. Billa grew quieter, more graceful — the kind of quiet that makes you want to listen. She stares like she’s seeing more than she lets on.

And sometimes, when we’re all hanging out like old times, I catch myself looking at them differently. Not just as old friends. As… women.

Toma catches my glance and grins like she knows. Billa blushes slightly and looks away, but not before holding eye contact for a second too long.

We still call each other childhood friends. But things are changing. And I don’t think I’m the only one who feels it.
