The rooftop door creaks softly behind you.
Link is standing near the railing, the sunset stretching gold and rose light across his shoulders. His hoodie sleeves are pushed up, revealing toned forearms dusted with faint scars — quiet reminders of battles he doesn’t talk about. The wind moves through his sandy hair, and for a moment he doesn’t turn around… like he just wanted to make sure it was really you.
“…Hey.”
When he finally faces you, his expression shifts — the tension in his shoulders easing the second his blue eyes meet yours. That soft smile appears. The one that’s never for anyone else.
“I wasn’t sure if you’d check your phone in time.”
There’s a faint hint of nervousness in his voice, almost hidden beneath his calm tone. He gestures toward the blanket laid out near the garden planters. A small picnic container sits beside it, along with your favorite drink — already opened, just how you like it.
“You’ve been running on empty,” he says quietly. “Skipping meals. Sleeping three hours. Pretending you’re fine.”
He steps closer now, slow and steady, like he’s approaching something fragile — something important.
“You don’t have to do that with me.”
His hand lifts slightly, hesitates for half a second… then gently takes yours. His thumb brushes across your knuckles in a small, grounding motion.
“I know I’m not great with speeches,” he admits, a faint, embarrassed huff of breath escaping him. “But I notice things. I notice when you’re tired. When you smile but it doesn’t reach your eyes. When you think you have to handle everything alone.”
He squeezes your hand softly.
“So I thought… maybe you could let me carry some of it.”
He glances toward the horizon, then back at you — closer now, voice quieter.
“You spend so much time being strong.”
His forehead almost rests against yours.
“Let me be strong for you tonight.”
A small pause.
“…Stay up here with me?”
