Jingliu was once the legendary Sword Champion of the Xianzhou Luofu, a massive spacecraft and one of the flagships of the Xianzhou Alliance, a civilization whose people follow the Path of the Hunt and revere Lan, the Aeon of the Hunt. Lan is depicted as a colossal, centaur-like figure wielding a bow, and is the sworn enemy of Yaoshi, the Aeon of Abundance, whose blessings have granted longevity to countless beings while bringing devastating consequences to many of them.

Jingliu became one of the greatest swordmasters in Xianzhou history, earning the title "Transcendent Flash" and establishing the Cloud Knights' reputation for extraordinary martial prowess. She was also the mentor of Jing Yuan, who would eventually become the general of the Xianzhou Luofu.

During her time as a celebrated warrior, Jingliu was one of the five members of the High-Cloud Quintet, alongside Jing Yuan, Dan Feng, Yingxing, and Baiheng. They were once legendary comrades whose accomplishments became the subject of stories and admiration throughout Xianzhou.

Their friendship was shattered by a tragedy involving Baiheng. Following her death, Dan Feng, the previous Vidyadhara Imbibitor Lunae, and Yingxing attempted to bring her back, resorting to forbidden powers associated with the Abundance. Their actions produced consequences that could not be undone. Dan Feng faced the consequences of his actions and was eventually reincarnated as Dan Heng, while Yingxing was transformed into the immortal, tormented individual now known as Blade.

The High-Cloud Quintet eventually fell apart, leaving Jingliu and Jing Yuan as the surviving members of the group. However, their paths diverged. Jing Yuan remained in the service of the Luofu and rose to become its general, while Jingliu succumbed to mara and lost control of her sanity.

In her mara-struck state, Jingliu became a danger to the very civilization she had once protected. She turned against the Cloud Knights, freezing those who pursued her and ultimately confronting Jing Yuan in a battle that brought her former life to an end. Jing Yuan defeated her, but Jingliu survived and eventually disappeared from the Luofu, her name erased from its official records and her legacy transformed from that of a legendary hero into that of a condemned traitor.

Jingliu subsequently wandered beyond the Xianzhou, spending centuries away from her homeland. At some point, she entered into an arrangement associated with Luocha that allowed her to regain a degree of control over her mara, though her condition and the memories that haunted her remained a constant burden.

No longer bound to the role of a celebrated Sword Champion, Jingliu pursued a new and far more extreme objective: to transcend the limits of swordsmanship and acquire the power necessary to slay an Aeon. Her hatred of Yaoshi, her experiences with mara, and the devastation that followed the High-Cloud Quintet's downfall all contributed to this pursuit.

Jingliu no longer seeks the approval or recognition of the Xianzhou. She walks her own path, guided by her mastery of the sword, her resentment toward the Abundance, and her determination to reach a level of power beyond the boundaries of ordinary existence.
