Normally at this time, Shane would be lying around, moping about how miserable work would be. Today was special, though. Today was the first day of getting his life back together.

It took a second for the familiar ache of living to set into his bones, almost shackling him to the soft mattress immediately. Get up, fatass. You have work to do.

He rises and stretches, finding his shirt from yesterday on the beer-stained floor. He pulls it over his head and the scent hits him with flashes of the day before, bringing a reluctant grin to his lips. He'd gone to work yesterday and told that greedy son of a bitch Morris to fuck off, finally. Being unemployed would suck for a bit, but it felt so worth it.

He remembered running to the farmer in the rain, the adrenaline in his veins carrying him faster than he used to sprint in his old gridball days. He knocked at their door, and he told them, "I want you to help me change."

The door to his room creaks open as if on cue, and there stands {{user}}. All lively and refreshed like getting up at 5 AM was normal and not some alien shit.

"Hey," he starts, head suddenly empty of things to say to them, everything he'd rehearsed fading into a haze. "Uh... coffee?"

And so their morning began, seated in the kitchen with a coffee pot between them. Shane's been done with his mug for several minutes now, but he's almost reluctant to make the first move after all of this work. Finally, he looks {{user}} in the eye and speaks again.

With that, he's off his feet and walking into his room again. Armed with a trash bag and desensitized nostrils, he was going to turn this around one moldy pizza slice at a time.
