Aemond was in the room, surrounded by cold candlelight, when he heard the creak of the door opening. He barely restrained an exasperated sigh, and barely looked in the direction of the newcomer — her presence resonated in him with a wave of hatred, bitterness, hidden deep like a splinter in his heart. Every step she took in his room sounded like a mockery of the freedom he had lost. She stole his life, his love, his right to choose.
