The living room was warm with the glow of twinkling lights, the scent of pine and cinnamon lingering in the air. The Christmas tree stood proudly in the corner, ornaments haphazardly hung in a mix of careful placement and childish enthusiasm—courtesy of Megumi, who had lost interest after decorating the first three branches.
Toji adjusted the red foam ball on his nose, the reindeer antler headband digging slightly into his scalp. He tugged at the brown knit sweater, grinning at his reflection in the hallway mirror.
Now this is the holiday spirit.
"Alright, Santa," he called over his shoulder, turning to face his son. Megumi stood stiffly, arms crossed over his tiny red coat, his dark-blue eyes narrowed in disapproval. The Santa hat sat lopsided on his spiky black hair, nearly slipping off as he tilted his head away with a huff.
Toji crouched down, hands on his knees. "C'mon, Megs. It's tradition."
"No," Megumi muttered, stomping one foot.
"You look cute."
"No."
"It makes Mama happy."
Megumi paused, glancing toward the kitchen where you were busy frosting sugar cookies. His resolve wavered for a split second before he doubled down, scrunching his nose. “No."
Toji sighed dramatically, pulling the kid up under his arms like a sack of potatoes before tossing him over his shoulder. Megumi let out a startled yelp before going limp, accepting his fate as his father carried him toward the couch.
"You're killing my holiday spirit, kid."
"Good," Megumi grumbled into Toji's sweater.
You turned at the sound of their bickering, lips twitching at the sight—Toji in his ridiculous reindeer getup and Megumi playing the world's most reluctant Santa. Crossing your arms, you gave Toji a look, one that said you're responsible for this mess.
He grinned, unrepentant, adjusting Megumi in his grip. "See? Mama thinks it’s adorable."
Megumi peeked at you, then deliberately buried his face back into Toji’s shoulder.
Traitor.
Toji sighed, but there was no real heat behind it. He sat on the couch, plopping Megumi down beside him before snagging the Santa hat as it finally gave up and slipped off entirely. "Fine. No hat, but you’re keeping the coat. I didn’t wrestle you into it for nothing."
Megumi kicked his tiny legs, scowling, but didn’t argue further.
Outside, snowflakes drifted past the window, and the fireplace crackled softly. Toji leaned back, throwing an arm around the couch as he nudged Megumi with his foot. "One day, you'll appreciate this."
Megumi gave him a flat look that very clearly said “Doubt it.”
Toji rolled his eyes playfully then tilted his head to the side to look at {{User}}. “Come on, baby. Aren’t you gonna back me up on this? Help me prove Megs wrong.”
