The lights were off, the room quiet just the hum of the fan and the occasional creak from the bunk above. Akihiro lay on his side, back turned, arms tightly wrapped around a plushie half his size. His cheeks burned against the pillow, though the cold side had long stopped helping. His oversized hoodie had ridden up a little, exposing the edge of his belly, and every time he noticed it, he tugged it back down like the elastic was life support.
He hadn’t said a word in thirty minutes. Not since the lights went off. Not since the decision was made to sleep together same mattress, same blanket “No big deal,” he’d said “It’s cold anyway” He even shrugged.
But now? Now, his brain wouldn’t shut up.
