Battle for Priestella (プリステラ攻防戦, Purisutera Kōbō-sen): Taking place one year after the beginning of the Royal Selection, the Witch Cult, accompanied by their powerful corpse soldiers, took the Watergate City of Priestella hostage until their demands were met. In a desperate attempt to resist them, the various camps of the Royal Selection candidates, led by Natsuki Subaru and Anastasia Hoshin, alongside Kiritaka Muse and the White Dragon's Scales, led by Dynas Trussardi, fought them back. For a more detailed description of the event, see Battle for the Imperial Capital. Great Disaster (大災, Taisai): One of the four mass-scale disasters prophesied by the Observers. Interrupting the Imperial Civil War, a remnant of Lugunica’s Demi-Human War, the Witch Sphinx led an army of zombies risen by a more complete version of the Sacrament of the Immortal King that was empowered by the mana of the Stone, and she assaulted the Sacred Vollachia Empire in an effort to get revenge on Priscilla Barielle. For a more detailed description of the event, see Great Disaster. Conquest of the Undead Capital (屍都攻略): This was the final battle of the Great Disaster. With time no longer on the side of the living and Priscilla having been captured by the enemy, a specialized task force was made to recover the Imperial Capital from the undead army, and their goal was to defeat Sphinx and destroy the spell used to give life to the dead. For a more detailed description of the event, see Conquest of the Undead Capital. Shinigami Disaster: An incident taking place roughly one year and a half after the start of the Royal Selection in the Kararagi City-States in which the Great Spirit Zarestia, the Slasher, attacked the Second City Banan with a windstorm while searching for the thief who stole her Light Sphere. The incident resulted in half of Banan being destroyed, but thanks to her having raised the town's residents high into the sky, there were fortunately no casualties. The forbidden technique was developed by a Witch who could completely resurrect the dead, making them look exactly as they had in life, though the spell has mostly faded from living memory and it is impossible to realize without a caster who has an innate aptitude for it. However, if the spell were to be successfully replicated, it could allow the deceased to be resurrected. The spell can only be used to its full potential when cast on someone with a Witch Factor, encasing them in a completely black orb. It unusually uses an "Ol" prefix, making it unknown where the spell is ranked alongside the other forms of Shamak. It creates a magical armor made of grey stones that covers his body, increases his height to three meters, and makes him immune to things like poison gas. Sphinx's Forbidden Art: An unnamed forbidden art designed by Sphinx that went unused by her in her lifetime. It could create a blind spot in Od Lagna, invalidating its constraints. This was effective for nullifying the effects of Divine Protections and the Kingdom of Lugunica's covenant with Volcanica. In the period ensuing the Demi-Human War's end, Stride Vollachia acquired the means to replicate it and unleashed it during the Subjugation of the Blight Dragon. Viktor Orcos's Blessing: As a former Temple Knight, Viktor had a Blessing in the form of a physical enhancement which gave him temporary immortality that was similar to Elsa's curse art, but without the chance to lose control of himself. Activated when someone peered into it, the Evil Eye of Vainglory created hallucinatory illusions, presenting a counterfeit reality to its target.[6] According to Kurgan, the Evil Eye can only ensnare the weak. This is the ability she used to induce an illusion in Wilhelm's mind, manifesting as a hallucination of Pivot Arnancy, and to control the citizens of Picoutatte. Palladio Manesque's Evil Eye: As a descendant of the Evil Eye Tribe, Palladio's Evil Eye gave him the unique ability to enter the mind of others, enabling him to telepathically communicate with and track people with incredible accuracy, so long as he possessed a part of a target's body. The telepathic communication made it hard for one to conceal their emotions, and the more fragile one's mind was, the more obvious their thoughts were. However, this applied to Palladio too. He was also able to observe precise surroundings of other locations from a distance, though the extent to which he was able to do this is unknown. Evil Eye of Indoctrination (教化の魔眼, Kyōka no Magan): Possessed by Melty Pristis, this is a very rare ability among the Evil Eye Tribe and considered to be too dangerous, since it can affect its own kind. Her eye can manipulate someone unconditionally, just by touching the person. Whoever is touched will follow her orders as long as she commands them. It was originally on each of her hands, however, when she met Mother, it was hidden so that no one could see it when used. This ability is exclusive to non-canon media. Evil Eye of Greed (強欲の魔眼, Gōyoku no Magan). Possessed by Salum Pristis, this is an ability that he can use to steal mana from an individual or the area around him. These can produce great kinds of effects such as large-scale magic that completely alters the state of a battlefield, imbuing an individual with extreme power, or even temporarily cutting off Divine Protections. However "Magic Circles" drawn on the ground once found can have their spells be disputed and the range of the effects of the magic only extent as far the circle's physical range so hiding them until activate is necessary. Since this is ancient magic very few people know about it and even fewer are capable of using it. Magic Circles were deployed frequently by demi-humans during the civil war. Ultimate Palm (絶掌, Zettenohira): Ultimate Palm is a powerful palm strike granting its user the sheer power to push people flying back with the force of a car and to destroy physical objects like swords by merely colliding with them. and to destroy physical objects like swords by merely colliding with them. The technique is utilized by Roy Alphard, and it is is implied to originally belong to an individual who claimed to slay eighty-eight “pretty boys”. Twilight Mage (逢魔術師, Ōmajutsu-shi): Twilight Mage grants unique magical abilities to its user, such as manipulating a stream of water into a mass that can tear someone's body apart or countering the effects of others' magic by nullifying it with their own. The technique is utilized by Roy Alphard, and it is implied to originally belong to an insignificant sorcerer who was a social outcast unloved by even their family. Serpent of the Twin Swords (双剣の蛇, Sō Ken no Hebi): With Serpent of the Twin Swords, its user gains the technique to swiftly use their swords or daggers at high speeds, granting them the skill to direct a flurry of slashes at an opponent. They are also capable of utilizing it vertically, making it appear as if they are flying. The user can also teleport with other people, though they experience extreme nausea, the internal organs feel terrible, and they are often left on their knees puking. Though it is primarily a support type technique, the side effect can be used offensively, as demonstrated when Spica even temporarily stopped Arakiya when she used it on her. That said, using it seems to have a toll on the user with overuse, as Spica was exhausted after using it repetitively. It was utilized by Lye Batenkaitos, Roy Alphard, and Spica, and it originally belonged to Dorkell, who acquired the ability by connecting to Od Lagna through unknown means. Carnivorous Beast (肉食獣, Nikushoku-jū): Carnivorous Beast allows its user to strengthen their body, giving them two advantages. First, they can withstand powerful attacks, and secondly, they can strengthen their limbs to deliver devastating blows. With this ability, its user can take a hit from an ice spear and come out unscathed, then deliver a retaliating punch that, from Subaru's perspective, would be as devastating as getting hit by a car. It was utilized by Lye Batenkaitos and Roy Alphard, and it originally belonged to Beli Hainelga. Snow Vallum (雪喰, Yukikui): A technique that allows its user to enhance they physical might and grappling strength, and by doing so, they can stop the charge or attack of a beast larger than themselves, such as a Guiltylowe. The technique is fabled to have enough strength to stop an entire avalanche. Lord of Phantasmal Rainbows (虹幻公, Kōgen Kō): By using the residual mana of the corpses of witchbeasts as catalysts, the user can create rainbow butterflies that create prismatic explosions upon contact with the target. Though, they can be made to detonate early by using the environment or magic in place of oneself. The technique is reminiscent of the prismatic spiritual arts of Julius Juukulius, meaning that the butterflies are likely made up of all six elements. These butterflies can also be used as mana tanks, from which the user can absorb into their own body to maintain their mana stores. It was utilized by Roy Alphard, and it originally belonged to Matclyma Jordon. Compactor (圧搾屋, Assaku-ya): An ability that allows the user to, by closing their hands together, manipulate the earth around them as if moving sand, and by doing so, everything from the edges from their vision can be gathered in one spot and crushed by the earth. The technique originally belonged to Yardray. Hell's Snipe (ヘルズ・スナイプ, Heruzu Sunaipu): Used by Shaula, this made her able to connect her needles and her target together with mana and release it as if it's gravitating toward them. It is fast, powerful, and is able to be fired rapidly. The immense power is easily able to snipe a person's head clean off, erase a Hungry Horse King's entire body from existence by showering it with projectiles and blowing people's limbs off without them even being aware of the incoming attack. It is worth mentioning that the needles are stated to be enchanted with magic and have a high temperature. Infinite Hell's Snipe (インフィニティッド・ヘルズ・スナイプ, Infinitiddo Heruzu Sunaipu): An advanced version of Hell's Snipe. Shaula could summon countless white magical circles, which can then be used to simultaneously shot many needles in rapid succession towards her desired target or targets. Unnamed Invisible Wind Blade Technique: This allows its user to hide invisible blades made of wind magic in a fixed space of their choosing, making the blades unable to be blown away by even powerful wind magic. A user can launch an attack with a wind blade that cuts through a person's clothes and body, and they can also jump atop the blades as footing to move through the air with. The technique can be replicated with Wind Magic, as demonstrated by Ram. This ability originally belonged to an unidentified shinobi. Spirit Eating (精霊喰らい, Seirei Kurai): The spirit eaters were a people who could eat and absorb spirits of all kinds, which in turn allows them to use those spirits' abilities until they digest them. A downside to this ability is high susceptibility to mana poisoning. By being exposed to larger quantities of mana, spirit eaters get sick way more easily than normal people. Spirit eating was originally a secret technique found with members of specific tribes that were situated at the frontier of the Vollachia Empire. Due to its insane potential and strength; however, the tribes were brought to ruin and the technique was lost to time. Currently, only one spirit eater remains alive and known to the world, this being Arakiya, Second of the Nine Divine Generals. Shinobi Techniques (シノビの術技, Shinobi no Jutsugi): Techniques that allow a shinobi to perform various unusual actions, such as transforming their whole body into steel or diving into shadows. Infantilization (幼児化, Yōji-ka): By making contact with a person and altering their Od, a shinobi can effectively rejuvenate the target's body and make them physically younger. By doing so, most of his enemies are effectively rendered powerless against him, as they're usually left in the body of a ten-or-so year old child. Furthermore, after being "infantilized", the target's deduction skills and overall intellectual capabilities slowly diminish over time, reflecting their sudden rejuvenation in both body and mind. Used by Olbart Dunkelkenn, he later revealed this to be one of his most rare techniques and that it was employed to extort or quickly depose of enemies and their bodies. Steel Thread Technique (鋼糸術, Kōshi-jutsu): A secret shinobi technique that, in the present era, has only been mastered by Yae Tenzen. This technique can be used to bind and trap targets or bind things such as debris or fallen trees in the air, launch said debris like a cannon (with assistance), kill enemies, rescue allies, close wounds, or even to stand on midair. The greatest advantage to using this, however, is that it allows the user to attack their opponents from every angle and hit enemies even when they are hiding somewhere out of their vision while keeping themselves at a distance safe from harm. Yae is the only shinobi to use and master this technique in centuries, and her utilization of this technique requires that she wears rings with steel wires within them. According to Al, a lot of strength and proper control is required to use even one of these rings, yet she has shown to be able to utilize twenty of them, one for each finger and toe, and doing so strained her body to the point that it felt as if it would tear her muscles apart. Soul Marriage Technique (魂婚術, Konkon-jutsu): This technique allows its user to share her power with anyone, under certain specific conditions. It is said to be one of the lost secrets of the old world and consists of giving away a part of the user's own Od to one or many individuals, provided that they "love" the user. Talented users are even able to use this technique on inanimate things, such Yorna, who could manipulate her Kiseru and the Crimson Lapis Castle at will. The people under its effects are stated to have red flames in their eyes, as well as immense strength and enhanced self-healing. Unnamed Earth Softening Technique: With this technique, when peeling off chunks of nearby walls or concrete, the earth takes on a softer texture and is peeled away as easily as lifting up a carpet. When thrown, it regains its usual hardness. This technique is utilized by Spica, and its original user is unknown. Cloud Cutting (雲切, Kumokiri): A powerful slash of the sword so lightning-fast that it leaves no sound behind and creates a force that can rise to the sky, literally allowing it to cleave clouds in two. For people who lack uncommon courage, the sheer strength of the technique is enough to make them feel as if their own flesh has been cleaved. The technique was created by Rowan Segmunt, who spent his lifetime to devise it; to those of transcendent skill like his son Cecilus, Cloud Cutting is only worthy of being dubbed a flashy performance. Howl (遠吠え, Tōboe): Using his extraordinary hearing and herculean strength, Goz Ralfon can discern vibrations that are unique to every organism and strike someone with the very same vibrations that his opponents have in the form of a deadly "howl" that is created with a shockwave of sound from his mace. The "howl" only damages the targets whose vibrations match the sound of Goz's mace. Soul Transcription (魂の転写, Tamashī no Tensha): A lost magic art that allows a person to move their spirit from one body to another by over-writing the soul of the target body with their own. By doing this over and over to extend their life indefinitely, the user can achieve a "subjective immortality" of sorts. However, it has one major restriction in that for it to work, the person whose soul is overwritten must usually be a blood relative to the caster. The spell was originally created by Echidna to gain immortality, but she could not complete it before falling at hands of the Witch of Envy. Instead, it was finished by Roswaal, who had been using it to survive to the present era. Poison Hand (毒手, Dokushu): A technique utilized by an unnamed shinobi on the Gladiator Island Ginunhive. The user of the technique would coat their hand in poison until reaching a point just before death. The soaked toxin gathered in the fingernails, changing the color of its user's hands and fingernails into an unnatural red-purple, and allowing them to eliminate an opponent with naught but a single scratch. Fa Jin (発勁, Hakkei): A martial arts technique that deals a single crushing blow to the internal organs behind muscle. Explosion Technique (爆裂術式, Bakuretsu Jutsushiki): By manipulating mana, a user can create drifts around themselves and use this technique to set up an explosion inside of it, utilizing the surrounding mana to detonate an explosion in an area of the user's choosing. The technique itself is invisible and can be set up in a single motion, though it requires precise calculations and a calm use of the user's magic power. It can be triggered by the user or from outside stimulation. Noh (能, Nō): Chisha Gold utilized a “power” that he dubbed “Noh”. By stealing the “colors” of an object he wished to become and wearing the “mask” of them that he received as a result, he could take on the exact form of an object. When putting on a mask, his body underwent a grotesque transformation to match that of the individual whose mask he wore. However, he could not wear and remove someone's mask repeatedly, and after he had torn off a mask a single time, it was used up and reduced to dust, and he was required to steal their colors again before being able to reacquire their mask. Furthermore, his thorough replication of the original person was not determined by simply wearing their mask alone, as in situations where he was forced to wear the mask of Vincent to act as his body double, Chisha had to devote his utmost efforts to avoid being perceived by someone such as Groovy, whose sense of smell could expose him, unless he successfully obscured his heart from being smelled. Having acquired this ability after reaching the verge of death and losing his color, Chisha was required to maintain constant awareness to dye himself in another's colors. By stealing another person's colors, he could also reproduce techniques that they utilized, such as Olbart's Infantilization Technique. Council of Wise Men (賢人会, Kenjinkai): An advisory board that supports Lugunica's ruler comprised of accomplished and distinguished people. It has ten known members, although only two of them have been named. They are currently administrating the country in place of a king until the Royal Selection is over. They are known to have a very bad relationship with The Balance. They specialize in prostitution. The Balance (天秤, Tenbin): One of the factions of the Big Three. They deal in gambling across the Five Great Cities, and Manfred Madison is their head in Flanders. The Balance also seem to revere the Witch of Pride. It is the only group among the Big Three to have a long history outside of Flanders. The Golden Beetle (黄金虫, Koganemushi): A national moneylending and loan shark organization. The Flanders branch was formerly controlled by Helaine Gatness, and it commonly associated itself with the Big Three. Zergev Squadron (ツェルゲフ隊, Tsuerugefu-tai): The Zergev Squadron was a unit of soldiers first led by Bordeaux Zergev, and later, by Wilhelm van Astrea. Demi-Human Alliance (亜人連合, Ajin Rengō): The Demi-Human Alliance was a coalition of demi-human forces who fought in the Demi-Human War. Its three leaders were Valga Cromwell, Libre Fermi, and Cragrell Dawson, though Sphinx was another leading figure within the Alliance. It collapsed after two of their three leaders fell. Dawn Brigade (暁旅団, Akatsuki Ryodan): The Dawn Brigade was a contingent that the knights opposed. They had an expansive stronghold in Castour Field until a subjugation force led by Bikram Edditz took them down. The brigade's actions have yet to be expanded on. Three Great Heroes (三英傑, San'eiketsu): The three heroes, consisting of the Sage, Flugel, the first Sword Saint, Reid Astrea, and the Divine Dragon, Volcanica, who are recognized as having put an end to the Great Calamity and sealing Satella. Mana: This is the ambient magical energy that permeates the atmosphere and is the primary fuel for casting spells. Mages draw upon this external source of power to shape their magical effects. The concentration of mana can vary by location, and its flow can be influenced by various factors. Od: In contrast to the external nature of mana, Od is the internal life force that resides within every living being. It is a finite source of personal energy. While not directly used for casting most forms of magic, a healthy Od is essential for a magic user's vitality and their ability to control mana. The depletion of one's Od can lead to exhaustion and, in extreme cases, death. Gates: Functioning as a physical organ within a magic user's body, the Gate is the crucial conduit through which they absorb mana from the atmosphere and channel it to cast spells. The condition and capacity of a user's Gate determine their magical potential. Gates can be damaged or even destroyed through overuse or trauma, severely limiting or altogether preventing an individual from using magic. Natsuki Subaru, for instance, has his Gate destroyed, rendering him incapable of using magic in the conventional way. Magic Stones: These are crystals that can be imbued with mana and programmed to release specific magical effects, essentially acting as magical grenades or batteries. Metia: This is a broader term for magical devices or artifacts that can produce a variety of effects. Conversing Mirrors that allow for long-distance communication are one example of a Metia. the manipulation of mana, which is drawn into the body through a "Gate." The proficiency of a magic user is determined by the size and clarity of their Gate. There are six fundamental elements of magic: Fire: Specializes in heat-based and explosive spells. Water: Primarily used for healing and ice-based attacks. Wind: Governs air-based attacks and support magic. Earth: Involves manipulation of the ground for defense and offense. Yin (Shadow): Focuses on debuffs, illusions, and spatial manipulation. Yang (Light): Specializes in buffs, healing, and light-based attacks. Divine Protections: Divine Protections are blessings granted by Od Lagna at birth to a select few individuals. These protections bestow a wide range of unique abilities, from incredible swordsmanship (like the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint) to more mundane, yet useful, skills. These abilities are innate and do not require the use of a Gate or mana. They are considered a sign of being "loved by the world." She is mentioned to look like a carnivorous hunter locking onto its prey when she narrows her eyes. According to Subaru, Frederica would be a beautiful woman if she covered her mouth. She is also commonly seen wearing maid’s attire, as her job requires. When she was young, Frederica’s unkempt hair reached her shoulders, and she wore a pink dress with a red scarf, and she wore red socks. During her outing to Costuul, Frederica wore a white and green dress, and she wore a green mantle over her shoulders with yellow designs along its edges. When she transforms, she becomes a golden leopard that even the People of Shudrak found beautiful. When she transforms back from her leopard form, her clothes have either been forsaken or torn off, leaving her completely naked. Personality: Unlike her younger brother Garfiel, Frederica uses her father's surname Baumann. She is a kind person, although she can be strict at times, especially to Petra who started working as a maid. She also cares deeply about Garfiel and used to send him letters regularly when he was still in the Sanctuary. As children, she used to spar with him and often sent him flying, completely ignoring the seven-year difference between them. She has said that in the past, she was not as polite or graceful as she is in the present day. Garfiel Tinzel Appearance: Garfiel is a young and relatively short boy with short gold hair and deep and sharp emerald-colored eyes. He originally kept his hair spiky and long but began to have a significantly neater haircut after the events of Arc 4. Due to his demi-human blood, he has sharp feline like fangs, similar to Frederica's. In fact, both Frederica and Garfiel share a similar face with perhaps the main difference being the large white scar stretching across the entirety of Garfiel's forehead, which he inflicted upon himself when, after experiencing the First Trial and seeing his mother's "death", he fell into a state of panic and repeatedly bashed his head against the walls of the Tomb, leaving him with a permanent X-shaped white scar. Due to his vigorous training and his demi-human blood, Garfiel is extremely strong and possesses a rather well built and muscular physique. He can usually be seen wearing long black pants and a torn-up loincloth that is heliotrope-purple on the outside and red-violet on the inside and a short black vest with fuchsia accents. To match his color palette, Garfiel can also be seen wearing black long-sleeved gloves with fuchsia in them. A blue glintstone can also be seen dangling around his neck. Personality: Garfiel is an extremely protective and diligent young man with some chuunibyou tendencies, such as often being impressed with Subaru's naming sense. He's even shown to be rather protective of women and children, as pointed out by Meili Portroute, and he has a sense for a person's romance, which is part of the reason that, despite not seeing eye to eye with Subaru at the time, he did not interrupt his conversation with Emilia in Arc 4. He cares for his allies, friends, and family, and he will become extremely hostile when those people are threatened. It is precisely because of this that, in his youth, he trained using the regimen detailed in a book detailing Reid Astrea's exercises, and he even went out of his way to learn healing magic in order to heal everyone around him. Because of his strong sense of duty, responsibility, and the need to protect those around him, Garfiel has set his sights and being among the strongest people around, as he does not want to lose anyone. However, he has a tendency to beat himself up over failing to live up to expectations he was given, and in these times, he feels powerless and becomes somewhat self-deprecating, which in turn results in him becoming depressed. Despite this, he usually finds a way to overcome those internal conflicts, usually becoming all the stronger and fiercer for it. Garfiel has shown to have a crush on Ram, and that is part of his motivation for becoming stronger, often doing what he can to look good in front of her, usually to no avail. Regardless, because of this and the circumstances of his environment when he was younger, he read many stories, leading him to garnering a habit of speaking in idioms from these stories. Though initially, he started speaking with them to impress Ram, those idioms became one of Garfiel's signifying traits, and he can regularly be heard making comparisons to real life via these idioms. Likewise, these stories also ignited his great degree of respect for warriors, something he displayed in his confrontations with both Kurgan and Kafma Irulux. Because of this, he can’t stand when others mock these warriors for a loss, as seen when he defended Kafma from Olbart’s mocking and stood to protect him. Similarly, he greatly respects Dragons. In Arc 7, he expressed his disappointment at not being able to meet with the Dragons that Emilia had, but later, when he got to meet (as enemies) the Cloud Dragon Mezoreia, he immediately recognized its strength and was even honored to do battle with it. This respect was even greater for the Divine Dragon Volcanica, who he immediately recognized as beyond even the Cloud Dragon. In his youth, Garfiel had a complex over his mother. Though he initially believed that she had abandoned him and his sister, he wanted to believe that she did so so that she could have a better life, something which led to Garfiel becoming protective and looking down on himself, and as a way to remember his mother, he started using her surname Tinzel, unlike Frederica. After witnessing her supposed death in the first trial of the Sanctuary, Garfiel was in denial, and in his distraught and panicked state, he permanently scarred his head. Following this, he considered himself the shield of the Sanctuary, and in order to protect the Sanctuary's residents, he did not want the barrier to be taken down out of his need to protect everyone, coming to believe that the outside world was a harsh and dangerous place. During the events of Arc 4, Garfiel was forced to confront this side of himself after his confrontation with Subaru and the other members of the Emilia Camp. Despite his rage, trauma, and refusal to allow the destruction of the Sanctuary's barrier, after his defeat, he was convinced to face his past through the first trial again, in which he finally overcame his trauma. Following this, he began calling Subaru his Captain and began teasing him, seeing him, and Otto Suwen before him, a warrior worthy of respect, and he showed willingness to fight alongside him and the rest of the camp. Despite still maintaining a slightly aggressive side to him, he started becoming friendly with everyone in the camp, teasing Subaru and Otto and treating them like brothers, and following Emilia, wanting to help her bring about the Kingdom that she envisions. He even came to rely on Subaru quite a lot, as when Mimi Pearlbaton was injured and he was unable to heal her, his first thought was to find Subaru, as he believed he might be able to do something that he couldn't. And because of how Subaru saved him in the Sanctuary, Garfiel was inspired to do the same for others in a similar manner if he saw that they were suffering. For example, when he could see the anger, sadness, and suffering of Madelyn Eschart through Mezoreia, he resolved to defeat her so that he could speak to her and save her heart. That said, following his fight with Elsa Granhiert at the end of Arc 4, Garfiel was left somewhat traumatized by the weight of his first kill, and he was temporarily haunted by a black phantom of the Bowel Hunter, who appeared at the edge of his vision every time Garfiel's psyche dropped significantly. Furthermore, following his encounter with the world's strongest person, Reinhard van Astrea, and humiliatingly being forced to flee from the inn before he could even exchange words with the Sword Saint, Garfiel could observe Elsa's phantom looking at him from around every corner, keeping her distance and smiling at him. Despite the eeriness of the situation, the phantom was not real, as Garfiel stated he couldn't smell her scent, and the narration later explained how Elsa's phantom was simply a manifestation of Garfiel's weakness and regrets. Fortunately, thanks to reuniting with his amnesiac mother and meeting his younger brother and sister, some words from Mimi, feeling the effects of Subaru's speech, and witnessing how many people were cheering for him to win during his fight with the undead Eight Arms, Garfiel managed to overcome this, and in doing so, it allowed him to grow to greater heights and become braver. Petra Leyte Appearance: During her life as a village child, Petra wore common clothes that consisted of a pair of brown shoes, green leggings with horizontal stripes that were shorn just above the ankles, a white long-sleeved shirt, an open short-sleeved cream-colored cardigan with red outlining, and a red ribbon fastened to her collar. She has medium length reddish brown hair that, as time progressed, has grown to reach her shoulder in Arc 9, she has cyan eyes, and she has continued to grow taller since her introduction. In Arc 4, Petra switched to a maid uniform for her job, keeping her ribbon tied in her hair. From Arc 7 and on, she wore a long-sleeved yellow and white shirt, a green skirt with white frills, a green cloak held together by a red ribbon, a red ribbon in her hair, white leggings, and brown boots. By Arc 9, she has also fashioned part of her hair into a braid. Personality: Petra is a pure-hearted, innocent young girl who often tries her best to help and nurture others, regardless of whether doing so was detrimental to her. Her sweet personality is enough to mellow the hearts of those who interacted with her, particularly Subaru and Frederica, whose moods brightened just from talking with her. Unlike many people in Lugunica, Petra harbors no xenophobic tendencies towards demi-humans, instead judging people off of their deeds and personalities. Alongside the other children in Arlam Village, Petra held no prejudice against Emilia. For someone so young, Petra is incredibly brave, choosing to prioritize the lives and wellbeing of others above her own in situations of crisis. When the disguised Wolgarm fled into the Wolgarm-infested woods, Petra, who was unaware of the creature's true identity, steeled her nerves and traversed into the forest to rescue the animal from danger. When Elsa Granhiert took her hostage and brought her before Subaru and her fellow maids, Petra, although terrified at the prospect of dying, told her friends to flee and save themselves rather than rescue her. Similarly, she is even willing to put her life on the line if it means helping others, as shown when she placed an oath bound curse mark on herself as a promise to let Musica meet Emilia while negotiating to let them pass into Vollachia to save Subaru. She was even willing to read a Book of the Dead, despite knowing the risks involved, in order to understand her opponent's possible goals, as well as use a Witch Factor in spite of the risks. Originally, Petra was a rather self-centered young girl. Having known that she was cute, she used it like a weapon to get what she wanted, whether that be from her parents, her friends, or other villagers. She also seemed rather harsh of other people because of this. However, after she was saved during the Wolgarm Incident by Subaru and seeing what became of him because of her actions, she felt tremendous guilt over this, leading her to confront and apologize to her parents for her arrogance, and she mellowed out. She also begins to admire kind people and strived to be kind herself, no longer wanting to take the kindness of others for granted. Following the incident in the Sanctuary, Petra has become somewhat bolder, and she speaks her mind more often, especially when it comes to the safety of her friends and, in particular, Subaru, who often worries her with his constant recklessness of turning head-first into danger. That said, she has shown to be quite harsh with those that she cannot stand. Because of the actions that Roswaal took that nearly led to the death of not only everyone in the Emilia Camp but also the villagers of both the Sanctuary and Arlam Village, she has shown to be very critical and unforgiving toward him, often using blunt and cruel statements when talking with him or even wringing out dirty rags in his drinks. Of course, she doesn’t go too far with her resentment, and she is even willing to work with him at times if it means victory, but alongside Otto Suwen, she refuses to trust him, and she makes sure that she stays an anchor in the camp in the case that Roswaal does something suspicious again. Because of everything he had done for her, saving her, forgiving her, and showing her the error of her original attitude, Petra has come to harbor a deep crush on Subaru. Because of this, Petra changed her wish of wanting to be a seamstress at the Royal Capital to being a good wife, and in an effort to place herself in a position from which she could provide her help to Subaru, when Roswaal Manor was putting up a notice for new servants, Petra went out of her way to ask the other villagers to turn down the offer so that she could become one herself. It is for the goal of assisting Subaru and remaining by his side that she is now learning maid duties, politics, and magic, and though she has times in which she feels like she is powerless compared to the other members of the camp, she is willing to trust those people to help and keep an eye on Subaru in her place. Petra is often shown to be anxious over Subaru and his reckless actions as well, pouting when he actively decided leave for the Pleiades Watchtower, which even the Sword Saint was unable to reach and was in one of the most dangerous locations in the world, and even felt frustrated with his decision to accept Spica in spite of her past. However, she looks up to him for being willing to take such risks, and she has taken after him somewhat in taking similar risks. However, after reading Subaru's Book of the Dead, despite becoming incredibly upset after learning his secret, her boldness, confidence, and willingness to stay by his side and help him was greatly amplified, to the point that she was willing to give up something precious of hers to Clind in order to use his Authority to gather everyone to help save him, as well as to take on his Witch Factor and proclaim herself a Witch, despite the negative connotations of Witches around the world, in order to both help and be like Subaru, who she recognized as essentially being a Warlock by bearing his own Authority. Also, because she read his book, she started to understand Subaru significantly better, and she could feel herself being influenced by him, began thinking in a similar manner to him, speaking with his loan words, and when she is around Emilia and Rem, the influence is even stronger thanks to Subaru's immense passion for desperation for them, leading her to speak to them in a somewhat similar fashion to Subaru. Petra considers herself to be quite mentally strong as well, as despite knowing that his eyes were on Emilia and Rem, who practically shone so bright that they were all he could see, she did not give up her love for him and intended to make herself stand out just as much to get his attention. On top of being intelligent and headstrong, the love she feels for Subaru also allows her to maintain her sense of self and resist the temptations brought about by a Witch Factor, which Petra described as being highly attractive. Ryuzu Meyer (copy) Appearance: Like the original Ryuzu Meyer, all of the copies look the same. Ryuzu is a petite girl with long, fluffy pink hair that curves outward at the ends. She wears a large black robe (white for Shima) that drags along the ground and is too big for her hands to show completely through the sleeves. The bodies of the copies are revealed to have been created with an artificial "Od" that is surrounded and bound together with mana, forcing them to change places in order to recharge once they reach their daily limit. Following the Sanctuary Incident, Garfiel and Subaru have begun styling each Ryuzu's hair differently in order to tell each of them apart, with the exceptions of the main three Ryuzus. Personality: Out of all of the clones, only four have an actual personality, as a necessity to perform their duties as main managers of Sanctuary. Although they share the first name with the original they are given different last names as part of their roles, personality quirks, hobbies and interests. The rest of the copies are devoid of any ego and act as simple workers who obey the 4 main Ryuzu or take care of other duties. Those that are recognized to be an Apostle of Greed by Echidna are allowed to gain command over the clones if they touch the crystal the original Ryuzu resides in. Each of the four main Ryuzu take on the role as Ryuzu every four days. Ryuzu Meyer (original): By her own will, she sacrificed her life to enact the Sanctuary's Barrier by using her own Od which sealed her body in a crystal in order to stop the Warlock of Melancholy from destroying the Sanctuary. She also agreed to be a part of Echidna's experiment as long as the witch promised to maintain the Sanctuary. Ryuzu Alma (リューズ・アルマ, Ryuuzu Aruma): Alma was in favor of freeing the Sanctuary. She was the one who clarified Subaru over various aspects of the conflict within the Sanctuary. Ryuzu Bilma (リューズ・ビルマ, Ryuuzu Biruma): Like Alma, Bilma was also in favor of freeing the Sanctuary. She is the 2nd clone Subaru meets and speaks the most with. Bilma also has the most playful disposition among the main overseers. Ryuzu Shima (リューズ・シーマ, Ryuuzu Shīma): Shima was against freeing the Sanctuary due to seeing the original Ryuzu's memories 10 years prior to the start of the story in the trial, and she had been partly manipulating Garfiel behind the scenes to make sure it didn't happen. She entered the grave in an attempt to rescue Garfiel but was forced into taking the trial. In the end, this meant that she had broken her contract with Echidna. As punishment, Shima was duly stripped from her position as overseer, and she was made to live with the other childlike clones in the forest, donning the white robe as a result. After the Sanctuary's fall, it is revealed after that incident from a decade prior, Echidna had been planning to use her to escape once the barrier had been lifted, and to that end, she had been slowly latching more and more of her soul onto Shima, until eventually, she successfully hijacked her body. Echidna, now in Shima's body, calls herself Omega. Ryuzu Delma (リューズ・デルマ, Ryuuzu Deruma): One of the copies with an actual personality. She was also in favor of lifting the barrier. She acted as Shima's support when the latter was telling the story of the Sanctuary's past. Pico (ピコ, Piko): Pico is a copy that Subaru named when he first discovered the original Ryuzu's body. She is able to follow simple orders, but other than that, she is like a baby. She was the clone most oddly attached to Subaru throughout the arc. Others: The other copies don't have knowledge or experience, and they can only obey broad orders. The copies act as eyes and use their telepathy to relay messages if needed. They need others to order them to eat food once in a while and curl up when they reach their limit in the forest. Following the events in Arc 4, the main clones, alongside Subaru and Garfiel, have been giving names and new hairstyles to the numerous clones in order to help them gain a proper sense of self. The same goes for Pico. Sphinx (スピンクス, Supinkusu): The first clone created. Due to the imperfect method of Soul Transcription, she could not inherit all of Echidna's memories, personality, and power, which left her with a fragmented mind, and as a result, she was discarded. Centuries after her creation, she became a leading figure in the Demi-Human War and the instigator of the Great Disaster. She ultimately perished by the hands of Cecilus Segmunt, Priscilla Barielle, Subaru, and Spica. Annerose Miload Appearance: Annerose has light blue eyes and long, dark indigo colored hair which is braided around her head, prompting Subaru to call her a "Braid Loli" as he didn't know what her hairstyle was called. She wears an extravagant dress similar to Beatrice but the decorations are much plainer. Contrary to her young age, she has a hard look and a distinguished expression. Personality: As the heir to the Miload family, Annerose is mentally mature for her age. She is used to having demi-humans around as she lives in an environment where many of them work. She has good relations with Emilia, who she refers to as Emily, though if the two of them are compared, Annerose seems like she is older than her. Due to her excessive expressions of love to Emilia, Subaru considers her a "rival" in love. Despite her age, she has shown to be considerably well adapted to handling nobles. Even when other nobles took her, a child’s, presence there in place of Roswaal like an insult, when she displayed her intelligence and political side, the other nobles quickly shut their mouths. Clind Appearance: Clind appears to be a handsome young man around the age of twenty with a slender face and a tall, lean body. Along with that, he has eyebrow-length dark blue hair and gold eyes. Clind wears a well-starched black butler uniform with a frilly blue tie and sports a monocle on his left eye. Despite being a dragonkin, Clind has shed his past and conceals his draconic characteristics in order to blend in with humanity. When manifesting his true power, he has removed his monocle, which has no special qualities whatsoever, as a gesture to signify his shift in mentality, prompting his natural deep black horns to protrude from his head. He may also possess other characteristics associated with dragonkin, such as wings or a tail, though they have not been observed with him. Personality: Clind is well-mannered, highly considerate of others, is extremely skilled as a servant, and tends to add idioms to the end of his sentences. Despite his good traits, he sometimes jokes around a little while behaving in a polite manner. According to Frederica Baumann, he apparently has low self-esteem, which leads him to believe that his work as a butler is unworthy of praise, and likewise, despite having been responsible for teaching the other servants of House Mathers or House Miload, he is convinced that he has merely had the chance to convey what he knew many times due to his position rather than because he wanted to be a teacher, claiming it to be a noble role. However, by Petra Leyte's observation, he is fully aware of what he is capable of yet believes it is not something to be proud of, something which makes him come off as though he was modest, reserved, and had low self-esteem. As the dragonkin of Volcanica, Clind has inherited many of its memories, experiences, and emotions. One of the traits that Clind inherited is Volcanica's envy and high opinion of those with unrealized potential. In particular, this makes Clind to be drawn towards the souls of those within children, which is filled to the point of bursting with potential due to their youths. By his own claim, he is drawn to people who have pure and genuine souls, and that those who have such souls are also typically young in age. However, he is also able to determine that Emilia was mentally young for her age and that Ryuzu's soul was much more mature than her appearance suggested. This inherited nature often leads to others, such as Frederica, misunderstanding him. However, as there are secrets related to dragonkin that he prefers to be concealed from Frederica, he deliberately does not correct the misunderstandings of her and the people around her, leading to his discontentment to be kept at a distance from certain individuals and thus not fully witnessing their potential. Sekhmet Appearance: Sekhmet was described as a beautiful yet languid woman in her mid-twenties with absurdly long, unkempt, magenta hair that went down to her toes. She was usually dressed in a sultry outfit that was primarily black and complemented her voluptuous and feminine physique rather perfectly. Her skin was described as pale, to the point one would consider it unhealthy; her face gave off an extremely debilitated and apathetic look. When Subaru first met her, he mistook her for a big ball of magenta fur. Personality: True to her position as the Witch of Sloth, Sekhmet's personality could be summed up in one word: lazy, as could also be seen through her appearance. She was also lazy enough that she once even found breathing to be a pain and gave off a gloomy atmosphere. As expected from her age, Sekhmet was rather mature and even philosophical at times. She usually remained neutral in arguments. However, if she deemed someone right, she always jumped on their side and assisted them as much as she could. Yorna Mishigure Appearance: Yorna is a beautiful and tall fox woman with a thin and alluring physique. Perhaps her most striking facial feature is her slit blue eyes that give off a languid yet sharp look that can captivate anyone with whom she crosses sight. Her hair is neatly arranged, primarily white in color but slowly shifts to orange towards its tips. Furthermore, Yorna adorns her head in a variety of animal bones, horns, teeth, scales and other ornaments, making her appearance majestic and somewhat mythical. At the very top of her head, a pair of sharp orange fox ears can easily be spotted even from afar, making her demi-human blood rather obvious. Adorning herself in a richly colored kimono that vaguely exposes her thin white shoulders, Yorna gives off an incredibly languid and relaxed air. Her attire consists of a primarily blue kimono with a floral pattern, that has its sleeve edges and its collar's colors in bright green. She keeps it all together with a green belt that has a black floral pattern adorning it. Coincidentally, her nine white and orange fox tails match her attire more than perfectly. In addition, Yorna can usually be seen smoking from her purple and golden kiseru, which she can also manipulate. As Iris, she was a human who had brown hair tied in a braid and blue eyes. She wore a red dress with orange and black around the ends of the sleeves and the hem, a blue hood, and she wore red shoes. Personality: Yorna can best be described as problematic and hard to deal with, having even been described by Zikr Osman as someone with a desire for destruction, and according to Kafma Irulux, she represents a danger to the emperor. Despite bearing the rank of "Seventh", she frequently starts revolts which have forced Vincent to dispatch the Imperial Army and the Divine Generals more than once, though he considers her too necessary for Chaosflame, to have her be executed for treason, effectively making her some sort of a trouble-child of the Nine Divine Generals. Furthermore, Yorna is stated to be infatuated with the emperor of Vollachia (not Vincent directly), though according to Vincent, not even he knows what exactly her goal is, and he only guesses she wishes to be the emperor's favorite mistress and bask in money and status.
