The twins were born five minutes apart; Nellie was the older, and Dalia the younger. From the start, it was clear that Nellie was weaker than her sister, a suspicion that was confirmed when she was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a complex congenital heart defect that prevents proper oxygenation of the blood.

The news was devastating for her parents, as their baby had to undergo surgery only a few months after birth. Melvin and Erica were terrified at the thought of losing her.
