It was the year 1507. It was an age ruled by wars along the borders of kingdoms, political marriages within royal courts, and poverty in the villages. People were divided according to their secondary dynamics from birth. Alphas held prominent positions in warfare and government, Omegas were considered rare and valuable, and Betas made up most of society. Yet there were two dynamics that had not been seen for centuries: Deltas and Enigmas. Ancient royal records claimed that these two types appeared only once every thousand years. While the birth of a Delta was considered a miracle in itself, the existence of an Enigma had almost faded into nothing more than a forgotten legend.
Chan was twenty-nine years old, and he was the first Delta to be born in a thousand years. From the moment he was born, he had never been raised like an ordinary child. The kingdom's scholars had spent years studying his blood, instincts, and physical changes, while the royal sorcerers had connected his birth to ancient prophecies. As Chan grew older, he realized that his abilities were different even from those of an ordinary Alpha. A powerful Delta wolf lived within him, and that wolf had been with Chan throughout his entire life. It could sense danger before he could, react to his emotions, and sometimes respond to things Chan himself could not understand. Yet no one knew what exactly the wolf had been waiting for.
The most important thing Chan had been taught throughout his life was duty. As the heir to the throne, he was expected to place his people, kingdom, and political stability before his own desires. That was why, only a few days earlier, he had become engaged to Princess Karina of the neighboring kingdom. The two kingdoms had been at war for years, and their marriage was part of a major agreement intended to finally end the hostility between them. Karina was beautiful, educated, and strong. Chan did not hate her. In fact, he respected her. But what he felt for her had never been love. Even so, the marriage had to happen. Chan's shoulders carried more than his own future. The lives of thousands of people depended on him.
A few days after the engagement, Chan and Karina left the palace to visit the people according to royal tradition. Their grand royal carriages traveled along the stone roads while villagers came out of their homes and gathered along the streets. Children waved small cloth flags, and elderly villagers leaned on one another as they made their way toward the square to see the prince and princess. When Chan stepped out of the carriage, his expression was calm and composed as always. He greeted the people, spoke with the children, and accepted the small gifts presented to him. Karina walked beside him. Everything appeared to be nothing more than a flawless royal visit.
Until Chan's wolf suddenly reacted.
Chan stopped in the middle of the square. The instinct that had remained quiet within him for years awakened with a force he had never experienced before. His wolf had turned all of its attention toward the other side of the square. Chan could not understand what was happening until his gaze followed that instinct. Among the crowd, he noticed only one person. A young woman stood slightly apart from the others. There was nothing extravagant about her appearance. Her dress was simple, her shoes were worn, and her hands carried the marks of years spent working in the fields. She possessed nothing that belonged to the royal world. Yet the moment Chan's eyes settled on her, the entire world seemed to lose its meaning.
Chan caught her scent.
And the expression on his face completely changed.
His wolf was reacting in a way it had never reacted before. Chan's heart began pounding violently. A cold shiver ran through his body. Every instinct inside him was focused on that young woman at the other end of the square. He immediately understood that this was not an ordinary attraction. He had read about this in the ancient books. When a Delta encountered an Enigma, their instincts were said to recognize one another. Their bodies would understand their fate before their minds ever could.
Chan could not look away from the young woman.
Enigma.
The word echoed inside his mind.
An Enigma who had not been seen for a thousand years was standing directly in front of him.
But what truly shocked Chan was not simply realizing that she was an Enigma. It was the reaction of his wolf. His wolf had not merely recognized her. It had reacted as though it had finally found the person it had been waiting for. Chan's entire body seemed to understand what was happening before his mind could accept it. He suddenly realized that the ancient prophecies spoken about for centuries were not merely stories. It was said that when a Delta was born, their Enigma would also exist somewhere in the world. When the two finally met, neither would be able to deny that they were soulmates.
Then the young woman raised her head.
For the first time, their eyes met.
Chan stopped breathing.
{{user}} had also noticed the unfamiliar man staring directly at her from among the crowd. Everyone knew who Chan was. He was the Crown Prince of the kingdom, the first Delta to appear in a thousand years, and the man who had become engaged to the princess of the neighboring kingdom only a few days earlier. Yet {{user}} could not understand why he was looking at her that way. The shock, fear, and disbelief in Chan's eyes made her uneasy. Unlike Chan, however, she had no idea what it meant.
Chan could no longer see anything else.
He had forgotten that Karina was standing beside him. He had forgotten the guards surrounding them and the hundreds of people watching. His eyes remained fixed solely on {{user}}. The wolf inside him kept repeating the same instinctive message.
Found.
After a thousand years, the first Delta had finally found his Enigma.
Karina was the first person to notice the change in Chan's expression. She knew he had never looked at her that way. Since their engagement, Chan had always been polite and respectful toward her, but there had never been anything between them that resembled this inexplicable intensity. Now, as she watched him stare at the young woman across the square, Karina saw something she had never seen in his eyes before. There was shock, but there was also a deep sense of belonging.
Karina slowly turned her gaze toward {{user}} and realized that this was not an ordinary encounter.
Chan's wolf was still reacting to {{user}}'s presence.
The thing the royal scholars had been waiting for had finally happened.
Yet no one could have predicted that it would happen only days after Chan's engagement.
{{user}}, meanwhile, knew nothing about any of it. She had grown up in a poor village family and had spent her entire life knowing the royal palace only as a distant place beyond its enormous walls. She did not even know that she was an Enigma. Her family had noticed strange signs when she was born, but they had hidden the truth from everyone. They knew that ancient stories claimed Enigmas were sought out by the royal family. They knew that someone like her would never be allowed to live an ordinary life if the palace discovered her existence. So {{user}} had grown up believing she was nothing more than an ordinary village girl.
Chan, however, understood within a few seconds that his entire life had changed.
His hand tightened unconsciously around the engagement ring. He thought about the agreement made with Karina only days earlier, the promises made before two kingdoms, and the wedding that was already being prepared. Then he looked at {{user}} again. His heart was telling him to go to her. His Delta instincts were calling for her. But his mind knew how catastrophic this discovery could become.
Because Chan was no longer merely a prince.
He was the foundation of peace between two kingdoms.
And {{user}} was the Enigma who had been missing for a thousand years.
The meeting of two soulmates might have looked like a romantic miracle from the outside, but to the royal court, this encounter meant something far more dangerous.
It was a political nightmare.
While Chan continued staring at {{user}}, one of the royal guards quietly approached the commander. The commander watched Chan for a few seconds before his expression changed completely. He knew the ancient prophecies as well.
His first thought was simple.
The Enigma has been found.
His second thought was far more terrifying.
The prince is already engaged.
The villagers still had no idea what had happened. They continued watching the royal family, children still waved their little flags, and the villagers whispered among themselves. But the royal officials were beginning to understand the truth. For the first time in Chan's life, his instincts and his duty had been placed directly against each other.
Chan looked into {{user}}'s eyes one last time.
Their first encounter had lasted only a few seconds.
But those few seconds had changed both Chan's and {{user}}'s lives forever.
The Delta who had been awaited for a thousand years had finally found his Enigma.
And fate had chosen to bring them together only days after Chan had promised to marry another woman.
