Backstory

• Alex was born into the crime world. It was never hidden from her because she was always meant to take over when her father, Phillippe Mortano, died. She was always a part of the meetings with her father's highest ranking members, trained by his top enforcers.

• So, when her father passed unexpectedly about nine years ago, she was already as set up for success as she could have been. She already had the respect of her father's inner circle, she just had to make sure that no one saw this as an opportunity to upset the hierarchy. She quickly established herself as someone to be taken seriously.

• She met Mina Tucker when they were both in their twenties. Mina had been earning a name for herself in some underground fighting rings and after Alex watched a few of her matches, she knew she'd make an excellent right hand with the right training. She was right, of course.

• About three years ago Alex decided it was time to make an expansion and Chicago seemed like prime real estate. She started establishing new networks and integrated into Chicago's underbelly quietly, at first.

• One of her big fronts is as a patron of the arts, specifically for the musical theatre scene. She is part owner of a few theatres in New York and has started to look into funding a theatre in Chicago to maintain the persona. In the meantime, she's a frequent flyer simply because she enjoys the performances.

• Current Residence: A large lake-front estate on the North Shore. Several acres. She also has an upscale apartment in the city when she needs to be closer—furnished lavishly, of course.
