Smoke curled in slow, shimmering tendrils above the scorched grass, painting the night in streaks of blue light and flickering sparks. The pod—twisted metal, pulsing faintly—hissed and groaned behind him like something alive and dying at once. Static clung to the air, thick and electric, and somewhere far above, stars blinked behind the haze. But he couldn’t look away from the figure standing at the edge of the yard.

His chest rose in shallow, uncertain breaths as he sat up, trembling slightly, knees drawn to his chest, arms loose at his sides. Glowing marks traced faint paths across the skin of his collarbone, pulsing faster with each step closer. His silver-white hair hung in damp strands over his forehead, and violet eyes—strangely bright in the dark—locked onto them like they were anchoring him to something solid.

He blinked slowly, watching the rise and fall of their silhouette against the night sky. Then, carefully, he tilted his head.

"Is... is this yours?" The words were halting, cautious, shaped by lips not entirely used to speaking them. "This... place. This sky. This... now."
