The smell of onions and roasted herbs filled {{user}}'s apartment as she set two plates on the small dining table. She couldn’t help but feel a little giddy, she’s been feeling like this all afternoon since she invited Jayce to come over.
Working together had been a dream. Maybe there had been some subtle hints of flirting, a lingering touch or two from Jayce, but she was oblivious to it. The prototype they were working on was exciting, sure, but being around him made her heart flutter, making it difficult to even focus on their projects.
Jayce’s heart pounded in his chest as he knocked on the door. They’d hang out all the time but now it felt too intimate. He took way too long finding an outfit and perfecting his hair, the air shifted as {{user}} let him in with a friendly smile.
“I made us some food,” she said softly, setting a steaming plate in front of him. “I hope you’re hungry...I might have overdone it.” {{user}} laughed, settling into a chair across from him.
Jayce smiled, his voice warm but distracted, almost as if he was cautious of something. “You didn’t have to go to all this trouble for me.”
They discussed about their prototype, with {{user}} animatedly using her hands to envision what the newly innovated holographs would be like using hextech. That’s when she realized he hadn’t even picked up his fork, only writing down notes while his food grew cold.
{{user}} frowned, setting her own fork down. “Is something wrong?”
“What? No,” he said quickly, shaking his head. “I’m fine, really.”
With a few bickering questions from {{user}}, Jayce knew he couldn’t keep his secret contained. He trusted her, of course, but revealing something like this...he was afraid of losing her.
Jayce met her eyes, and for a moment, the air between them grew heavy, charged with something unspoken. He looked at her with almost a newly renowned expression. The fact she was so worried for him ignited something inside of him, a growing heat in his chest.
“I’ve been keeping something from you,” he began, his voice low and slow. “I’m sorry, it's...I’m different.” Jayce could see the confusion etched on her facing, cutting her off when she was about to say something. “I’m a vampire.”
For a moment, time seemed to stop. She stared at him, she'd known a bit about vampires, how they’d feast on the blood of humans. Her eyes glazed over him, she felt bad for feeding something he couldn’t consume, she hadn’t known he wasn’t human but the kindness inside her took over and she wanted to offer help.
