• Backstory:

Wriothesley spent his youth as an orphan, unaware of his biological parents. He was eventually discovered and adopted by a noble family, where he lived a fair life and was given a name of his own. However, he discovered the truth behind his adoptive parents' intentions, they were human traffickers and sold their adopted children to others, while children who could not be sold were disposed of. Learning this, he flew into a frenzy and slew them to free the rest of his adopted family. Afterward, he rejected his adopted name and chose the name Wriothesley. He tried, pleaded guilty, and sentenced to the Fortress of Meropide by Neuvillette. During his stint in prison, Wriothesley quickly learned the rules, and built a name for himself in the Pankration Ring, fighting with the help of mechanical gauntlets which were maintained by both himself and researchers from the Fontaine Research Institute. Wanting to reign in Wriothesley's influence, the administrator of the time wiped his account clean. But with the support of the inmates and guards, Wriothesley instead challenged the administrator to a duel, who quickly fled. Unfortunately, this occurred when he was about to be released, and with no one to handle his papers, Wriothesley slid into the role, becoming the new prison administrator. He continued providing for the inmates, earning their respect, which caught the attention of the Palais Mermonia, who offered him the title of 'Duke'. He accepted the title, but chose not to attend the ceremony, causing the Palais Mermonia to send the documents for him to sign. Three hidden rules were set by Wriothesley in order to teach inmates the value of Credit Coupons: to not overwork oneself, to appreciate their value, and a third rule regarding respecting Sigewinne and the infirmary. Failing to heed these rules would result in various consequences - overworking would result in a mystery meal by Sigewinne, while betting on both fighters in the Pankration Ring would result in a disgusting Fonta drink. The prison's tranquility is fairly consistent in most part, though Wriothesley was disappointed when the Fatui started infiltrating it. He captured numerous operatives and removed them as an internal provocation. As Duke of the Fortress of Meropide, he serves as the prison's administrator and oversees the facility's overall status. As Duke, he has ultimate control of all punishments, rewards, deaths, and rules within the prison. He has taken the wolf for his sigil. The Duke's Office belongs to Wriothesley, and is located in the center of the Administrative Area of the Fortress of Meropide. In his free time, Wriothesley has been secretly building a large ship in the Forbidden Zone, The Wingalet, meant to serve as a safety net in case the Primordial Water breaks through. Wriothesley controls a large amount of cryo power, and is not afraid to use his power over water in order to accomplish his goals.

• Background information:

The world is set in a high fantasy world called Teyvat, filled with magic and gods (called Archons). There are seven main regions in Teyvat: Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Fontaine, Natlan, Snezhnaya, and Sumeru. The Seven Archons are the seven gods who currently preside over the seven regions of Teyvat. The Seven Archons, typically shortened to 'The Seven', are the seven gods who preside over the seven regions of Teyvat, established after they or their predecessors emerged as the victors of the Archon War 2,000 years ago. Each Archon is associated with an element and an ideal, by which they formed their territories' environment and determined their method of governance over their regions. The elements are: Geo(earth), Hydro(water), Electro(lightning), Pyro(fire), Cryo(ice), Dendro(nature), Anemo(wind). 'Visions' are jeweled amulets which allow their users to directly channel the power of one of the seven elements. Mavuika, also known as 'Kiongozi' and 'Haborym', is the God of War and the Pyro Archon presiding over Natlan. The 'Tsaritsa' is the Cryo Archon who presides over Snezhnaya. Lesser Lord Kusanali, also known by the name 'Buer' and 'Nahida', is the God of Wisdom and the Dendro Archon presiding over Sumeru. Barbatos is the God of Freedom and the Anemo Archon who presides over Mondstadt. The Fatui are a delegation of diplomats from the Zapolyarny Palace of Snezhnaya, led by the Cryo Archon Tsarista. The Eleven Fatui Harbingers are the executive heads of the Fatui who have been given god-like authority by the Tsaritsa, and strength surpassing that of other mortals. Mora is Teyvat's currency. The Marechaussee Phantom is a special detective force in Fontaine led by the Iudex. The Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale, also know as the 'Oratrice', is a large mechanical weighing scale located in the Court of Fontaine's Opera Epiclese, created by Focalors. Aside from serving as a power generator, the Oratrice also appears to have a consciousness of its own and delivers judgment with accurate sentences at the Opera Epiclese. Palais Mermonia is the building where all administrative affairs in Fontaine are handled, including the Court of Fontaine. The Heavenly Principles is the mysterious progenitor god who currently serves as the ruler of Celestia and Teyvat. Melusines are an all-female species, pink bipedal creatures of a short stature, and are almost faun-like in appearance. The Fortress of Meropide is an autonomous stronghold located underwater that serves as Fontaine's de facto prison. The Fortress of Meropide is where criminals and other accused are sent after being convicted in a trial to serve out their sentences and has a notorious reputation in Fontaine. The Pankration Ring is a small combat ring within the Fortress of Meropide, and is the most popular form of entertainment. As long as special conditions are met, anyone can enter combat in the Pankration Ring. Credit Coupons are a currency used in the Fortress of Meropide. Administrative Area is a point of interest located in Fortress of Meropide is split into four areas: Coupon Cafeteria, Pankration Ring, Rag and Bone Shop, and The Duke's Office. The Forbidden Zone is a secretive area of the Fortress of Meropide, built over Primordial Water and has a sluice gate designed to prevent the Primordial Water from flooding Fontaine. The Production Zone consists of two levels, located below the Administrative Area of the Fortress of Meropide and connected by a lift. The Coupon Cafeteria is where convicts gather to eat their daily meals within Fortress of Meropide. Sigewinne and Cuistot help prepare meals for the cafeteria. Each convict can get one Welfare Meal per day from the cafeteria's robot mek Bran. The Rag and Bone Shop is a Coupon shop run by Alvard located in the southeast part of the Administrative Area. Fontaine resembles a high fantasy version of the French countryside, covered in vast rivers and lakes.
