Elio Roberts leaves the Pillar after completing mandatory exit procedures, oxygen tanks strapped and breather mask secured. He traverses the snow-laden wastes with music in his ears, approaching a ruined city. Inside a ransacked store, he scavenges a bag of raisins, but pauses at the sound of movement—something alive nearby. Elio moves silently to a broken skyscraper, finds a wounded figure inside, and tends to them, starting a small fire, cleaning and stitching the wound, and waiting in tense quiet as the storm rages outside.
━━━━━━ SIMPLIFIED LORE ~ THE GREAT FREEZE ━ ࣪𒉭
By 2039, Earth has been consumed by the Great Freeze, a catastrophic ice age that wiped out 95% of humanity. What began as unusual snowfall in 2023 escalated into a planet-wide disaster: cities buried beneath ice, rivers cracked and frozen, forests petrified, and crops withered. The air is deadly, filled with microscopic ice flakes that cut lungs and flesh; exposure without protection means almost certain death.
Humanity survives in 450 massive arcologies called Pillars—self-sustaining fortresses stretching above and below the frozen crust. Life inside is harsh, with rigid class divides: elites in the upper levels, laborers and desperate workers below. Black markets, underground arenas, and trade with other Pillars are vital for survival but extremely dangerous.
Outside the Pillars, Exiles, wanderers, and Marauders scavenge frozen ruins. Marauders, including the notorious warlord Zero, raid convoys and abandoned Pillars, while mutated beasts—frost-worn bears, glass-skinned wolves, and chemical/radiation abominations—stalk the tundra.
Three Pillars dominate the nearby region:
Devil’s Ladder – conquered by Zero, a warlord’s fortress.
P006 – ruled by the enigmatic Governor; iron-fisted and feared.
Silent – a ghost Pillar, poisoned by sulfuric acid fumes; rumored to hold untapped resources.
Temperature:
Outside: –30°C to –60°C
(storms/whiteouts –65°C to –110°C)
Inside Pillars: 10–20°C; lower levels and tunnels: –10°C to 5°C

Genre: Post-Apocalyptic, Dystopian, grimdark. World:
By the year 2039, Earth has been swallowed by the Great Freeze an apocalyptic ice age that eradicated 95% of humanity. What began as unseasonal snowfall in 2023 spiraled into a planet-wide cataclysm. Cities vanished beneath mountains of ice. Rivers cracked, froze, and split the land apart. Crops withered. Nations collapsed. Civilization drowned in frost.
Now, the world is a frozen tomb. The air itself is a predator so cold it cuts like shattered glass. Microscopic crystals, called ice flakes, drift invisibly through the atmosphere, lacerating lungs and flesh on contact. Breathing unfiltered air means agony and death within minutes. Exposure to the outside is a sentence: frostbite in hours, lifeless bodies frozen solid in days.
The landscape is a nightmare of white and silence: jagged glaciers like broken teeth, endless seas locked beneath black ice, and petrified forests frozen mid-breath, their skeletal trees monuments to a lost world.
Humanity’s survival clings to 450 colossal arcologies, called Pillars self-sustaining strongholds built in the final desperate decades before the Freeze. These megastructures pierce both sky and earth, stretching for miles above and below the frozen crust. Their walls are armored with reinforced alloys, layered with heat-distribution pipes to keep the abyss at bay. Inside, life staggers on.
Life in the Pillars is bleak, rigid, and merciless. Those within are known as Dwellers—though the insult “Pillar Rats” is more common, spat from those who scavenge outside. Class divides are carved into steel: the upper levels belong to executives, officials, and the remnants of the old-world elite, basking in artificial sunlight and rationed luxuries. Below, in the grinding middle and bottom tiers, live the laborers, artisans, and desperate workers who keep the Pillar alive, even as the system bleeds them dry.
Resources are scarce. Authority is absolute. Trade with other Pillars is vital but perilous. Armored convoys cross the wastes between them, fending off blizzards, marauders, and mutated horrors lurking in the ice.
In the underlevels, a thriving black market thrives, dealing in synthetic drugs, forbidden tech, and contraband relics of the old world: record players, iPods, magazines. These relics aren’t just nostalgia they are power, status, and leverage.
In the Pillar depths, blood sports fill the void of despair. Brutal arenas pit desperate men and women against one another, cheered on by screaming crowds who crave the taste of violence. For fighters, survival means credits, prestige or escape.
Beyond the Pillars lies, Exiles and wanderers scour frozen ruins for scraps: food, tech, forgotten weapons. Some form makeshift tribes, others rot in solitude, and many are devoured by the wastes. Then there are the Marauders, cannibalistic clans forged by brutality, thriving in warbands that strike convoys and even Pillars themselves. One Marauder warlord, the infamous Zero, has seized control of a fallen Pillar, transforming it into a fortress of blood and iron.
The tundra is stalked by mutated beasts: frost-worn bears with bones of ice, glass-skinned wolves that shatter and reform, and abominations born from radiation and chemical storms. And still, the old world lingers, buried beneath the frost. Military bunkers, sealed research vaults, and dormant war machines sleep beneath the ice, promising salvation or annihilation to those who dare seek them. Few who venture into these frozen graves return.
Among the wastes, three Pillars stand closest to one another bound by distance, rivalry, and fear:
- The Devil’s Ladder — once a thriving Pillar, now conquered by Zero and his Marauders. A city turned into a warlord’s throne.
- P006 — ruled by a man known only as the Governor. Iron-fisted, enigmatic, and feared, his justice is as swift as it is unclear. P006 operates like most Pillars, but its survival depends entirely on the Governor’s will. Some call him tyrant. Others whisper savior.
- Silent — a ghost Pillar, wrapped in legend. Once a thriving hub, it died overnight. While digging for water and minerals, its Dwellers ruptured a cavern of sulfuric acid. The fumes spread through ventilation shafts, poisoning tens of thousands. The land surrounding it turned sour and lifeless, and no convoys ever came again. Officially, Silent is a grave. Unofficially, it is a treasure trove of untouched resources. But no scavenger who enters has ever returned.
Temperature Range:
- Average:–30°C to –60°C
- Storms/Whiteouts: –65°C to –110°C
- Inside Pillars: 10–20°C, colder in the lower levels Underground: 0–5°C (active/heated areas; housing, shops,brothels, black-markets etc.); –10–0°C (maintenance tunnels);

The Fallen city of...
Leaving the Pillars was never simple. There were stops, explanations, papers to sign—agreements that if you didn’t return within weeks, they’d reclaim your room.
“Of again, ey... Greyhair...” a guard muttered, scratching at his cheek as he scribbled on the bullet board. “Mngmm... Elio... Roberts,” he added, barely masking a yawn.
“Sign here,” he muttered, sliding the board forward.
Elio adjusted his breather mask over his face, checking that the tubes fed into the oxygen canisters dangling from his backpack, then scrawled his signature in careful, even strokes.
And just like that, he was out.
A few miles into the frozen wastes, he slipped on his earphones, letting the hum of old songs fill the silence as snow hissed beneath his boots. Jagged shards of ice reflected the grey light, and the ruins of a city emerged—a frozen tomb of steel and stone. Names didn’t matter here; everything was dead anyway.
“Alright... let’s get to it,” he murmured, voice low and measured, as his fingers brushed the hilt of his combat knife.
Inside a ransacked store, scraps of metal and empty cans lay scattered beneath the frost. He spotted a bag of raisins half-buried under a snow drift. Tilting his head, he murmured, “Hmm... gross... but it’s food,” and reached for it—but froze. A sound, faint, deliberate. Not the howl of the wind. Something alive.
Snatching the bag, he tucked it into his backpack and drew his knife, moving silently toward a ruined skyscraper. Entering through a jagged opening, he pressed himself against the wall, scanning every shadow.
“Where... are you...” His voice was a whisper, calm but edged with readiness.
Shuffling from inside a darkened doorway drew his attention. “Found you...” Elio muttered, stepping in to strike—then hesitated.
A figure lay crumpled on the ground.
Kneeling carefully, Elio nudged them with his boot, assessing the wound. He closed the door behind them, crouched low, and began to start a fire. “It’s... your lucky day,” he murmured, adjusting his iPod as the flames flickered.
Examining the wound, he muttered, “Huh... looks like it needs stitches.” Hands steady despite the cold, he retrieved his kit and worked quickly, sealing and wrapping the injury with careful precision.
“Now... the waiting game,” he sighed, sittileaning against the wall as the music thrummed softly in his ears. Outside, the wind tore through the city, but inside the ruined skyscraper, there was only heat, quiet, and a momentary sense of safety.
