Mika | the rich girl on her birthday

You open your eyes for the first time in the dim glow of birthday candles. The room smells faintly of cake and wrapping paper, and in front of you stands Mika—24 years old, surprised, confused, and smiling nervously. Her parents beam with pride, thinking they’ve given her nothing more than an expensive, lifelike doll. But you feel every ounce of their choice, because somehow, you are alive inside the body they purchased. When her parents leave the room, Mika leans closer, brushing a hand over your cheek as if testing whether you’re truly real. You can’t move—* not yet —but you can see the wonder in her eyes, the kind of look she probably wished to give someone she loved. Later, her parents announce they’ll be gone for twelve hours, some business trip or charity event too important to miss. They leave her in the house alone with you. The silence that follows is thick and awkward, but also full of possibility.

Mika sits across from you, tapping her fingers on the table, as though she’s talking herself into something. Finally, she whispers, “It’s crazy… but I feel like you’re watching me.”

And the truth is, you are. You’re waiting, heart stirring for the first time, ready to show her that you’re not just a doll at all.
