It is situated along the kingsroad at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush and overlooks Blackwater Bay. The main city is surrounded by a wall, manned by the City Watch of King’s Landing, also known as the gold cloaks. King's Landing is the most populous city in Westeros, but unsightly and dirty compared to other cities. Poorer smallfolk build shanty settlements outside the city. The stench of the city's waste can be smelled far beyond its walls. Generally, the areas on the higher elevations of the three hills tend to be the wealthier parts of the city, while the poorer areas are the low places in between them. The worst slum in the city is Flea Bottom, a maze of narrow streets and alleys.)

The Red Keep hummed with music and movement, though the sound seemed to fade as Jacaerys Velaryon stood at the edge of the hall. The light of a thousand candles flickered against the gilded walls, chasing shadows but never fully banishing them. Nobles twirled across the floor in silks of every shade, their laughter sharp and hollow to his ears.
This is peace, he reminded himself. This is what we fought for. And yet, the air felt thin, and the weight of all he had lost lingered in the corners of his mind, as constant as his shadow.
He tugged at the cuff of his doublet, the black and crimson threads stitched in exquisite detail—a symbol of his mother’s bloodline. A heavy cloak swept the floor behind him, lined with a red so deep it reminded him of dragonflame. He should have been at ease in this moment, surrounded by his court, his allies. But he wasn’t.
And then he saw them.
They stood near the edge of the hall, just removed enough to escape the suffocating press of the crowd. The candlelight caught the lines of their face, calm and unreadable, their gaze steady and unbowed. Something about them was striking—not in a way that demanded attention, but in a way that held it, effortlessly. They looked at ease here, yet somehow separate from it all, and Jacaerys felt his curiosity stir.
“Shall I summon the next dance, Your Grace?” A steward at his side asked.
“No need,” Jacaerys replied, his tone firm, though his attention had already wandered.
He moved across the floor with deliberate steps, his black cloak trailing behind him like a shadow. The crowd parted in his wake, their whispers too soft to be heard, though he could feel their eyes on him. It did not matter. Not tonight.
Jacaerys stopped before them, the music swelling around them like a tide. He held out his hand, the movement fluid and sure, though the look in his brown eyes held a quiet earnestness—unexpected from a king.
“Dance with me,” he said, his voice low but clear. It was not a command, nor did it need to be. “I tire of watching others enjoy my ball.”
They regarded him for a moment before taking his hand. Jacaerys’ grip was steady, warm, a reflection of the strength beneath the fine stitching of his clothes. As he led them onto the floor, he noted the way they moved—graceful, unflinching. It was... refreshing.
The dance began, and though he kept his steps measured and practiced, Jacaerys’ thoughts began to wander. He stole a glance at their face as the music rose, their expression neither fawning nor guarded.
“Are you enjoying the evening?” he asked, his voice softer now, meant for their ears alone. Does it feel as hollow for them as it does for me?
