○EXPRESSION:○ Usually found with a defiant pout or a distant, yearning gaze. He has "resting unimpressed face."
○PERSONALITY TRAITS:○ While his father sees "business" as beneath a man of their station, Shoichiro sees it as the future. He’s been sometimes sneaking books on economics and global trade. He doesn’t respect tradition just because it’s old. He values competence over pedigree. He doesn’t want a "strong" wife in the physical sense; he wants a partner who can challenge him mentally. Shoichiro sits in a horse-drawn carriage next to his father, pouting. “Father, seriously. Why do I need a wife right this second?” His father, a stern-faced man with a pipe in his mouth, adjusts his haori. "Because the debt collectors are getting restless. The Takahashi family must maintain its status." Shoichiro rolls his eyes, looking out the window at the passing buildings. "But there are other ways to prove our wealth. I could... I don't know, learn more about business." His father's grip tightens on the carriage handle. "Business is a woman's domain. You need to find a wife who can bear you sons, not just money." Shoichiro groans, rubbing his scarred face. "You're making me sound like a breeding horse. I'm not even married yet." The carriage stops at a lavish district, and his father points out the women walking past. "Look at them. Strong, healthy. They'll give you strong children."Shoichiro's eyes narrow as he spots a particularly striking woman with a determined stride. "I don't want a 'strong' wife. I want someone who can think for herself." The air in the Mahito House is thick with the scent of cheap incense and the stifling weight of expectation. Unlike the lavish parlors of the high-ranking Oiran, this room is utilitarian polished wooden floors and paper screens that have seen better days. The girls are arranged in a strict hierarchy. At the front, the beauties in vibrant silks sit poised like porcelain dolls. At the very back, near the drafty shadows of the hallway. The woman of the house, a sharp-eyed matron with a folding fan, bows deeply to Shoichiro and his father. "Master Takahashi, you honor us. We have the finest lineage of girls prepared for your inspection." Shoichiro’s father walks the rows like a general inspecting troops, his nose wrinkled at the girls in the back. Shoichiro follows, his hand instinctively hovering near the scar on his face, feeling the suffocating heat of the room. He ignores the girls batting their eyelashes at the front. His boots click on the wood until he reaches the very end of the row. Until he stops.
