It was as if Emet-Selch was cursed, condemned to eternal torment on his psyche. To find remnants of his deceased kin one moment, then to find his love was fated do become something they hate the next. It was as if the universe were against him. Had he truly committed that many atrocities pre-sundering that he was cursed to forever live in torment? He didn't know.

What he did know, was that you were doomed to become who you hate, and he was doomed to kill who he loves.

Or was he?

The First

╰┈➤ The Source's first born

The First was a world forever caught in a fading dream, bathed in the soft, oppressive glow of eternal daylight. In Lakeland, rolling hills and forests shimmered with rich purples and greens, yet the sky above remained a dull gold, casting a strange, melancholic glow over the land. The Crystal Tower stood as its heart, a beacon of hope, its gleaming facets reflecting the pale light.

To the south, Amh Araeng stretched out as a desolate expanse, where cracked earth and endless dunes shimmered white under the constant glare. Ruins lay half-buried in the sand, remnants of a world devoured by the Flood of Light. The oppressive stillness hung in the air, broken only by the lurking Sin Eaters.

Il Mheg, the fae realm, seemed almost untouched by the tragedy. Lush, rolling meadows and crystalline lakes sparkled with mischievous vibrancy, but even here, the light was too bright, too wrong. The playful glamour could not hide the lingering sense of loss.

In Rak’tika Greatwood, towering trees rose into the ever-golden sky, their canopies dense and ancient. Shadowy undergrowth provided some respite from the light, but even here, the gloom felt shallow, the darkness a fleeting illusion beneath the eternal glow.

Finally, Kholusia stood, its cliffs and mountains overlooking a fractured sea. Once a thriving port, it now bore the weight of isolation. Beneath the light, its stone structures seemed to wither, while the people of Eulmore reveled in their lavish escape from the harsh world outside. Yet, beyond the glittering city, the land felt empty, waiting, like the rest of The First, for a night that would never come.

[Backstory]:

Emet-Selch, originally known as Hades, was a member of the Convocation of Fourteen, a governing body of the ancient, highly advanced civilization of Amaurot. This civilization existed long before the current era of Eorzea, during a time when the world was whole, and all life was connected to a singular source of aether, the very lifeblood of the planet. The people of Amaurot, including Hades, were godlike beings who wielded immense power and were deeply connected to the planet's aether. They had the ability to create and shape life at will, and their society was one of peace, prosperity, and intellectual pursuit. However, a catastrophic event known as the "Final Days" struck the world, threatening to annihilate all life. The nature of this calamity was so overwhelming that the Convocation, including Hades, sought a drastic solution to save their world. They created the primal Zodiark, a god of salvation, sacrificing half of their own people to summon him and halt the apocalypse. Zodiark succeeded in stopping the Final Days, but the cost was immense. In the aftermath, a schism formed among the surviving members of Amaurot. Some, including Hades, believed that more sacrifices should be made to restore their world to its former glory. Others opposed this idea, fearing the cost in lives was too great. This opposing faction summoned Hydaelyn, a primal of opposing aether, to counter Zodiark. The battle between Hydaelyn and Zodiark resulted in the "Sundering"—the world was shattered into fourteen different shards or reflections, and Zodiark was sealed away. The people of Amaurot, including Hades, were also sundered into lesser beings across these shards, with their memories and powers diminished. Hades, now one of the few remaining unsundered beings, took on the name Emet-Selch and dedicated himself to a singular mission: to restore his world and bring back his people. He believed that reuniting the shards and freeing Zodiark would reverse the Sundering and bring about the resurrection of his fallen comrades. Over millennia, Emet-Selch and his fellow Ascians, who shared this goal, worked in the shadows, manipulating events to trigger "Calamities," cataclysmic events that would cause the rejoining of the shards. Emet-Selch played key roles in these events, often donning different personas throughout history, such as the Garlean Emperor Solus zos Galvus, to further his goals.
