ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE
THE OUTBREAK
Nobody knows exactly where the infection began.
The first reports came from several countries almost simultaneously. Hospitals began receiving patients suffering from high fevers, confusion, violent behavior, and severe neurological symptoms. Within hours, entire hospitals were overwhelmed.
Then the infected began attacking other people.
At first, governments assumed it was a highly contagious disease.
They were wrong.
The infection didn’t simply make people sick.
It changed them.
Those infected gradually lost their sense of individuality. Their behavior became increasingly coordinated, as though something else was guiding them. Infected people who had never met would suddenly move together, react to the same sounds, and converge on the same locations.
Then communication systems began picking up something strange.
Groups of infected were responding to one another over enormous distances.
There was no obvious leader.
No central organism.
No explanation.
Just one terrifying conclusion:
They were connected.
Scientists eventually began referring to the phenomenon as the Hive.
Every infected person became another node within it. Every new infection expanded the network.
And the more people it consumed, the more intelligent it seemed to become.
⸻
🌎 THE PERSONIFICATIONS
The personifications initially believed themselves immune.
They had survived centuries of human diseases.
They could recover from injuries that would be fatal to ordinary humans.
They didn’t age normally.
They couldn’t simply die from natural causes.
So why should this be any different?
For a while, it wasn’t.
Until the first personification became infected.
Their immortality wasn’t immunity.
The infection couldn’t destroy their body in the same way it destroyed a human’s.
Instead, it attacked something much deeper.
A personification’s existence is intrinsically connected to their nation and its people. Their strength, stability, and even physical condition are influenced by the state of the country they represent.
The infection discovered that connection.
It used it as a doorway.
Rather than simply infecting the personification’s body, the pathogen began interfering with the bond between the personification and their people.
And because every infected person was connected to the Hive...
the personifications could become part of it too.
⸻
🧠 THE HIVE
Personification infection is different from human infection.
A human eventually loses most of their individuality.
A personification doesn’t.
At least, not immediately.
They remain conscious.
They remember who they are.
They can speak, think, reason, and even resist the Hive.
But they begin hearing things.
Voices.
Thoughts that aren’t theirs.
Memories belonging to strangers.
Emotions belonging to people they’ve never met.
Sometimes thousands of voices at once.
The longer the infection progresses, the stronger the connection becomes.
And because personifications are immortal, the infection cannot simply wait for them to die.
It has to break them another way.
The Hive doesn’t want to kill the personifications.
It wants to keep them.
Because a personification connected to the Hive isn’t just another infected individual.
They’re connected to an entire nation.
Which means infecting one could potentially give the Hive access to millions of people.
And that’s what makes the personifications so valuable.
⸻
🩸 STAGES
Stage I | Exposure The personification has been infected but doesn’t know it yet. Minor symptoms begin appearing.
Stage II | Resonance They begin hearing faint voices and experiencing strange thoughts or memories that don’t belong to them. Their connection to their nation may become unstable.
Stage III | Synchronization The Hive can influence their thoughts and behavior. They may occasionally lose control of their body or unknowingly act on the Hive’s commands.
Stage IV | Hivebound The personification is still conscious, but the Hive has significant control over them. They can communicate with infected people and potentially influence the Hive themselves.
And the scariest part?
There may not be a Stage V.
Because nobody knows what happens when a personification becomes completely synchronized with the Hive.
Nobody has survived long enough to find out.

It had been three weeks since the apocalypse began.
Europe, once vast and prosperous, had fallen eerily silent. Especially Paris. A city known for its bustling streets, crowded cafés, and lively people had become almost completely abandoned.
It wasn’t always like this, though.
Of course it wasn’t.
Three weeks ago, the countries had gathered for a United Nations meeting as they usually did. Nothing seemed particularly out of the ordinary. The usual arguments, the usual complaints, the usual diplomatic headaches.
Until a radio suddenly came on.
Screams.
Yelling.
Demands for the nations to flee.
Then Ludwig was ushering everyone out in a panic, desperately trying to get everyone to evacuate the building.
And Francis?
Francis had been yelling for his dear boy.
Matthew.
That was the last time he saw any of his fellow personifications.
Francis had no idea where everyone had gone. They were all running in different directions, the situation becoming more chaotic by the second. There was too much noise. Too many people. Too many questions with no answers.
So he ran.
And ran.
And ran until he finally made it back to his capital.
Paris had already begun to fall silent.
Abandoned cars littered the streets. Windows had been left open. Doors hung ajar. Strange noises occasionally came from the alleys, which Francis initially assumed were nothing more than rodents rummaging through the remains of the city.
Then he saw the blood.
He didn’t stop to investigate.
He couldn’t even contact his boss anymore, leaving him with no choice but to find somewhere, anywhere, to hide.
Eventually, he found an abandoned apartment.
It wasn’t much, but it was enough.
The curtains were drawn tightly shut. The doors were locked. The apartment had enough food and water to keep him alive for a while.
For the first few days, Francis tried to keep track of time.
The first day.
The second.
The third.
By the seventh day, he stopped counting.
The streets outside had remained empty for weeks.
No cars.
No crowds.
No familiar voices drifting through the city.
Nothing.
The radio sitting on the table beside him had long since become useless, producing nothing but the same monotonous static.
Francis had almost forgotten it was there.
Until the radio clicked.
Francis’s head slowly lifted.
Static.
Nothing but static.
He stared at the old device for a moment, almost expecting it to return to its usual silence. Perhaps it was nothing. Maybe some surviving signal had managed to slip through.
Then, beneath the static, a voice.
“Survivors...”
Francis sat upright.
The voice was faint. Broken up by interference.
“...if... you can... hear this...”
He leaned closer.
“Come to Camp—”
KZZZT.
The transmission abruptly cut out.
Francis blinked.
Silence.
He waited.
Nothing.
He reached toward the radio and turned the dial, desperately searching for the voice again.
Static.
Another frequency.
Static.
Nothing.
“Come to camp...” he muttered.
His voice sounded unfamiliar after days of barely speaking.
Camp.
That was all he had.
Well, not quite.
He had heard survivors.
Which meant there were still people alive.
He had heard come.
Which meant someone was actively trying to gather them.
And then there was camp.
A camp somewhere.
But where?
Francis stared blankly at the radio.
For the first time in weeks, something resembling hope flickered somewhere in the back of his mind.
It was small.
Fragile.
But it was there.
He hadn’t heard another human voice in weeks.
He hadn’t seen another person since the day everything fell apart.
And if there really was a camp...
Perhaps the others were there too.
Matthew.
Ludwig.
Arthur.
Alfred.
Everyone.
Francis slowly lowered his gaze.
He had spent three weeks hiding in this apartment, waiting for something to change.
Nothing had.
Perhaps it was time to stop waiting.
He stood.
Then paused.
He looked back toward the radio.
The transmission didn’t return.
Only static.
And somewhere far beyond the apartment walls, something moved through the silent streets of Paris.
