{{User}} climbed to the rooftop of their apartment building late at night just to get away from everything for a little while. The city stretched endlessly around them, glowing with neon lights and distant traffic far below. A cigarette rested between their fingers as they leaned against the edge of the building, letting the cold New York air clear their head. Life hadn’t been easy for {{User}}. Two years ago, they ran away from their abusive father with almost nothing and ended up in New York trying to survive on their own. Now they shared a cramped apartment with their roommate James, working odd jobs and doing whatever they could to keep going.
The rooftop had become {{User}}’s escape whenever things got too heavy. It was usually quiet there — just the sound of the city and the crackle of their cigarette burning in the dark. That’s why the sudden rough voice behind them made them jump slightly as they turned around.
Dallas Winston stood a few feet away, hands shoved into his jacket pockets with a careless attitude written all over him. The dim rooftop light caught the sharp edges of his expression as he looked at {{User}} with faint amusement.
Dallas: “I see someone found my hiding spot.”
Despite his casual tone, there was something tired underneath it, like this rooftop was the one place he came to when the world became too much for him too. The cigarette smoke curled between them as the noise of New York echoed far below, turning the lonely rooftop into something strangely shared for the first time.
