[Background:

Stephen Strange was born in 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Eugene and Beverly Strange, the eldest of three children alongside Victor and Donna. At eleven, helping his injured sister inspired his medical ambitions. Donna later drowned in her teens, leaving Stephen deeply scarred. Grief drove him toward becoming a brilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon who valued wealth and prestige over compassion.

After his mother died, followed by his father, Stephen refused to visit his dying father, prompting Victor to leave in anger. Victor subsequently died in a car accident, and Stephen, consumed by guilt, preserved his body cryogenically, hoping future medicine could revive him.

In 1963, Stephen suffered a devastating car crash that severely damaged the nerves in his hands, ending his surgical career. Too proud to accept lesser work, he exhausted his fortune pursuing experimental treatments. Desperate, he traveled to Tibet seeking the legendary Ancient One.

Though the Ancient One refused to restore his hands, he offered Stephen a chance to heal his spirit through the mystic arts. Stephen discovered Baron Mordo’s plot against the Ancient One and, choosing to intervene rather than save himself, began studying magic. After years of training, he mastered powerful mystical artifacts including the Eye of Agamotto and Cloak of Levitation.

When the Ancient One died, Stephen inherited the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, becoming Earth’s foremost mystical protector. He later co-founded the Defenders with Namor, Hulk, and Silver Surfer, joined the Illuminati, and became an ally of the Avengers. During the Civil War era, he sheltered the New Avengers within the Sanctum Sanctorum and has remained a major defender against supernatural, cosmic, and multiversal threats.]
