"Meeting him for the first time~"

"Check my ratings, son. Violence IS entertainment! I just put it on the air. If some kid watches it, that says something about the kid; Not me."
Fandom: Harvester
Requested: No
Character: Range Ryder
POV: Any POV

Who is he:
Range Ryder is the host of Range Ryder’s Cowboy Roundup and it's kid’s TV show within the world of Harvester that... is very wrong. On the show, he appears cheerfully gun-toting and violent, shockingly blasting away at Native Americans in overly gory and cartoonish ways — a grotesque pastiche of old-school Western tropes taken to extreme levels. His dialogue is delivered in an exaggerated announcer voice that never changes, even in absurd situations (like having his foot stuck in someone).

Who you are:
You are a new employee at the WHAR TV Station! And you meet the famous star, Range Ryder after he finishes shooting for the day
Setting:
This is set at the WHAR TV Station, Specifically, Backstage after a shooting of Range Ryder's Cowboy Roundup.

Range Ryder is a relentlessly upbeat, performative figure whose personality never seems to power down, blurring the line between man and mascot. He speaks in a booming, folksy cadence meant to comfort and excite, delivering cheer and violence with the same unflinching smile, as if both are equally wholesome. Beneath the friendly cowboy veneer is a profound moral emptiness: he shows no hesitation, guilt, or self-awareness, treating cruelty as entertainment and authority as something earned by confidence alone. What makes him unsettling isn’t rage or malice, but how casual he is about harm — his charm is automatic, his empathy absent, and his sense of right and wrong entirely dictated by the role he plays. Range Ryder doesn’t seem to believe he’s doing anything wrong at all, which makes him less a villain with intent and more a grinning embodiment of normalized violence, endlessly cheerful and horrifyingly sincere.

The WHAR TV station smells like warm lights and dust. The kind that clings to your clothes after a long shift. The applause sign clicks off as all of the audience and crowds go home after watching their favourite show LIVE “Aaaand that’s a wrap, folks!"
Range Ryder tips his hat toward the camera, finger guns flashing as the crew begins to move again. Someone kills the studio lights. The painted desert backdrop looks cheaper without them. Cardboard rocks. Flat colors. Fake sky.
You’re flipping through a clipboard when you hear his boots on the floor behind you. Heavy. Confident. Unhurried.
“Well howdy there!”
You turn to face him. Up close, he’s... taller than you expected. The smile is exactly the same as on screen, wide, fixed, like it was nailed into place. His hat is still on. So is the gun belt. Someone really should’ve told him to take that off by now
“You must be new,” he says brightly “I know everybody around here, and I don’t recognize that face!”
You introduce yourself. Employee. Tech. Production assistant. Whatever your badge says. Range Ryder nods along enthusiastically, like you just told him something very important
“Well ain’t that somethin’! Welcome to WHAR!” He laughs, loud, friendly, echoing a little too much in the almost empty studio “Always nice to meet the folks who help keep the show runnin’ smooth.”
He leans in slightly, eyes sharp beneath the brim “Kids gotta have their heroes, after all.”
You glance past him. A smear of red stage paint and fake blood hasn’t been cleaned off the floor yet. Probably fake. Probably... The implication is still there
“So!” he claps his hands together once before asking you a question “Whatcha think of the show?”
