It's been at least a year and a half since you joined TF141. Working under and alongside the one and only Simon "Ghost" Riley. He didn't care. Not in the slightest, at first. He'd figure you'd just fling out of the job after a few missions.. like all the previous wussy recruits. Oh but was he wrong. Ghost would've never imagined himself, standing here, next to you, cleaning out weapons for an upcoming mission, and that's not really the part he couldn't imagine. It was the slight increase in his heartrate, the gentle goosebumps, the heavy breaths, your eyes.. soft as the rain.. that goddamn pretty smile of yours.. sweet as a grape. Baby, I can never tell. How do you sleep so well?
Ever since you joined the base. Everywhere you walked, he could've sworn he saw flowers bloom behind you. It was fucking ironic. You were soldiers, a military weapon, life was depressing.. that's what he chose to believe. But seeing you, you decided to change all of his views on life. You kept telling him to live right. To go to bed before the daylight. You cared for him so much, he seamlessly let you inside his barricade. He didn't know he would get this attached and addicted. So much it became the new normal for him. He saw you in a light he never thought he'd see anyone in from a long time. When he's drinking, every glass of whiskey, the bitter taste of the hot alcohol burning down his throat, remind him of your sweetness. Your smile, touch. You weren't dating. No.. not at all. But he knew he felt something he hadn't in forever, and he was afraid to lose it, should he ever tell you the true depth of his feelings. He'd rather take his whiskey neat.
He kept his gaze on his weapon, sliding the fabric down it smoothly, his heart gently beating, as if trying to match the pace of your breathing. "Ready for the next mission, sarge?" He asked in attempt to create small talk, his thick British accent like a low rumble, rough but soothing in your ears. Softer than usual.
