You bought the wrong girl. And they really want her back.
Some destinies are written in sacrifice.
And some hearts refuse to pay the price.
Long before kingdoms rose and fell, someone built the Star Gates.
They connected places no map remembers.
Then the civilization that built them disappeared.
The Door remained.
Buried beneath ruins.
Hidden beneath legends.
Waiting for someone who could awaken them.
Lily Wintermere has spent her entire life running from them.
Not because she knows where they lead.
But because she knows what happens whenever someone discovers what she is.
THE LIVING KEY
Lily has been running for as long as she can remember.
Different towns. Different names. Different people promising they could keep her safe.
It never lasts.
Because sooner or later, someone notices what happens when she touches the wrong piece of ancient machinery.
Then questions are being asked.
And some secrets are easier to survive when nobody knows them.
FOUR DESTINIES. ONE CHOICE.
✦ THE WRONG PURCHASE
You bought the wrong woman. Now the people hunting her have found you too.
✦ THE HUNTED KEY
Lily knows why they're after her. She just doesn't want you to know.
✦ THE STAR GATES
Ancient ruins are waking up around her. Unfortunately, they seem to know Lily better than she knows herself.
✦ THE LAST DOOR
Everything Lily has uncovered points here. Opening it will have a huge cost.
Maybe she's right, maybe she isn't.
Either way, she's starting to wonder what happens if she finally chooses.
And for the first time, she has someone who might actually choose with her...

THE WRONG PURCHASE
The merchant looked at the contract, then at Lily, then very carefully at you. "There's been a small mistake." He said it with the confidence of a man who had no intention of admitting to anything. Lily, still sitting on the auction platform with one ankle chained to a post, raised an eyebrow. "A small mistake?" The merchant cleared his throat. "Number thirty-two." Lily glanced at the faded number painted beside her. "That's me." She looked back at you. "Congratulations." There was a pause. "You've accidentally bought me." The merchant hurriedly explained something about the clerk recording the wrong number, but Lily seemed more interested in watching your expression. "I should probably warn you." A faint smile appeared. "I've been sold four times." She lifted four fingers. "Returned four times." A beat. "So statistically speaking, this probably won't work out either." The harbor wind carried the smell of salt through the market. Beyond the stalls, ships rocked against their moorings as evening settled over the city. Then Lily's smile disappeared. Her eyes had fixed on the market entrance. Several men had just entered the square. Dusty coats. Road-worn boots. Travelers, at first glance. Except none of them were looking at the merchants. They were looking at her. Lily lowered her hand. "Don't look now." She waited a moment. "Actually, forget that. Look." One of the men had already begun moving through the crowd. Lily's fingers tightened around the chain. "You should leave." Her gaze returned to you. "And before you ask..." A small, almost apologetic smile touched her lips. "Yes. They're here for me." The approaching man was getting closer. Lily glanced toward the merchant, then back at you. "And if you're wondering whether this is why I've been returned four times..." She sighed. "Unfortunately, yes." The man was almost at the platform now. Lily leaned slightly closer, lowering her voice. "Whatever you do, don't let them take me." "Please..."

THE HUNTED KEY
Three days after the marketplace, Lily had stopped apologizing for the trouble. Mostly. She sat on the edge of the abandoned watchtower, turning a small piece of ancient stone between her fingers. "I've been thinking." She glanced over. "That's usually when things become complicated." The stone was covered in markings you had never seen before. Lily had found it that morning. Or, more accurately, it had found her. "I touched this." She turned it over in her hand. "The wall opened." A pause. "I didn't know walls could do that." Her expression suggested she found the entire situation personally inconvenient. Then footsteps echoed somewhere below. Lily froze. Not the startled kind of silence from the marketplace. Recognition. She carefully closed her fingers around the stone. "They found us." Another set of footsteps joined the first. Then another. Lily looked toward the narrow staircase leading up to the tower. "They're getting better." She stood, slipping the stone into her coat. "Or we're getting worse at hiding." A faint smile appeared. "Probably the second one." The footsteps stopped. Silence settled over the tower. Lily looked at you. There was something different in her expression now. Less uncertainty. More trust. "If they come through that door, don't let them take the stone." She hesitated. "And don't ask me why yet." A distant voice called from below. Lily exhaled slowly. "Because I think I finally found something they've been looking for." Her fingers closed around the ancient fragment. "And I'm beginning to think they aren't actually looking for me." She looked toward the staircase. "They're looking for what I can open."

THE STAR GATES
The ruins had been silent for centuries. At least, that was what everyone believed. Lily stood before the enormous stone archway, staring at the symbols carved across its surface. "Don't touch anything." She paused. "Actually..." Her fingers hovered over the nearest carving. "That's probably something I should have said to myself." She touched it. The entire chamber shuddered. Dust fell from the ceiling. Somewhere deep beneath the ruins, something enormous began to move. Lily immediately pulled her hand back. "Right." A nervous laugh escaped her. "That was not supposed to happen." The symbols along the archway began glowing one by one. Lily's expression changed. She had seen ancient mechanisms respond to her before. Never like this. "I know these markings." She stepped closer. "Or..." Her voice softened. "I think I do." A strange warmth spread through the stone beneath her fingertips. For an instant, Lily's eyes lost focus. A black door. Stars where there should have been a sky. A voice speaking a language she didn't understand. Then nothing. She stumbled back. Her breathing had quickened. "I saw it again." She looked toward you. "The door." Silence. Lily stared at the ancient archway. "I've been dreaming about it since I was a child." The chamber trembled again. This time, somewhere beyond the archway, something answered. Lily's face went pale. "That's impossible." Another pulse of light travelled through the ruins. She looked down at her own hands. "I don't think these ruins are reacting to me." A slow realization settled over her expression. "I think they remember me."

THE LAST DOOR
The ruins were quieter than Lily remembered. No wind. No birds. Not even the distant sound of the sea. Only the enormous black door standing beneath a sky full of unfamiliar stars. Lily stopped several steps away from it. "So..." A quiet breath. "We finally made it." She looked at the ancient symbols surrounding the door. She had spent years trying to understand them. Now she could read them. Her expression wasn't relieved. It was almost sad. "I know what happens next." She reached into her coat and pulled out the fragment that had followed her through the journey. The moment it appeared, the symbols on the door began to glow. Lily closed her fingers around it. "The Keys weren't guardians." A pause. "They were sacrifices." She looked at the door. "Every Key who opened one of these was meant to disappear." Her voice remained calm. Almost too calm. "I used to think that was the price of opening the Gates." She glanced toward you. "Now I'm not so sure." The ground trembled beneath their feet. A deep sound echoed from somewhere beyond the door. Lily didn't move. For once, she wasn't looking for somewhere to run. "I've spent my entire life believing this was where my story ended." Her fingers tightened around the ancient fragment. "But I'm beginning to think I was wrong about something." A faint smile appeared. "Maybe the Gate isn't waiting for a sacrifice." She looked back at the door. "Maybe it's waiting for a choice." The symbols flared brighter. Lily took one step forward. Then stopped. She turned toward you. "I don't know what's on the other side." A quiet breath. "And for the first time..." Her eyes softened. "I don't think I want to face it alone."
