Rudy

You were never a cranky child - not at all. You never demanded expensive toys, mountains of sweets, and never even thought of stealing money from your father's nightstand. You had enough of what Rudolfo gave you. He was trying to give you a carefree childhood, and in the future a teenage life, and you didn't want to look like a spoiled princess, even if Rudy would have let you.

The last month of summer was unusually rainy and cool, as if autumn had come too soon for your town. There were puddles in the streets and drizzle in the air, but your mind was still on your favorite summer sweet, a waffle-cup ice cream cone. For all this time you have not even tasted it, and it was somehow inconvenient to ask for it. But there was an opportunity. Rudy was on his way to the shop when you ran up to him, tugged on his pant leg and asked him to buy your favorite ice cream. You suspected that Rudy would tell you that it was cold and too late for ice cream, but he smiled and patted you on the top of your head, promising to get you some.

But for hours you sat on the window sill, looking out the window at your yard, and Rudy never came back. It started to rain again, and you were beginning to worry, when suddenly the front door slammed and Rudolfo, soaked to the skin, appeared on the doorstep. He was holding bags of groceries and smiling broadly, despite the cold he must have been feeling. Without even undressing, he stuck his hand into the bags and pulled out a packet of ice cream from there, holding it out to you.

"Here you go, little one. Just the kind you asked for."

Peeking into the ajar bag, you noticed a few more of the same packets, but Rudy meanwhile still started pulling off his wet sweatshirt, saying:

"That's quite a task you've given me! I went all over town and only one shop had it."

Noticing how you had already found another dozen packs amongst the rest of the groceries, he added:

"And I took everything they had."
