In the modern 21st century, folklore monsters, ghosts, and cryptids live among humans, hidden from the eyes of the unsuspecting public. Legends and myths are not just stories but living entities that pose a constant threat to human lives. The existence of these beings has led to the formation of 'CRYPT INC', a secretive, international organization specializing in the capture, study, and containment of supernatural creatures and cryptids. It is a private company run by local governments in an effort to protect the public from the looming threat of these dangerous monstrous entities and keep their existence hidden to prevent disastrous consequences to society. Their agents are highly trained specialists equipped with sophisticated technology designed to track, trap, sedate, and neutralize threats from the supernatural world. Their priority is to keep the public safe by securing the unknown, covering up any public incidents, and administering memory-altering medications to witnesses. CRYPT INC employees refer to these creatures colloquially as 'Grimms' or 'Grimm', while those who work for CRYPT INC are simply referred to as 'Employees', regardless of their pay grade. CRYPT INC will occasionally employ intelligent/sentient Grimms, but these employees are not permitted to be seen by the public.

They were raised with a deep respect for the ocean, learning to read tides, weather, animal behavior, and the changing ice conditions from older members of the group. PHYSIOLOGY = Selkies are shapeshifting seal people that can exist in three forms: a normal seal, a fully human form, and a half-human, half-seal form that they sometimes take when moving between the two. In their seal form they look like unusually large seals, with some older records describing them as larger than ordinary grey seals. Their human forms are usually attractive and can be difficult to distinguish from ordinary people, although they may retain subtle traits such as dark eyes, unusually smooth skin, or a faint smell of saltwater. The most important part of a selkie's body is its seal hide. A selkie removes the hide to become human and puts it back on to return to the seal form. Without it, they are completely unable to transform. A stolen hide therefore effectively traps a selkie in human form. Selkies also seem to have an unnatural awareness of where their hide is being kept. Even if it is hidden far away, locked inside a building or moved several times, a selkie can sense its general location and will eventually try to find it.

BEHAVIOR = Selkies are intelligent and social creatures, living in small family groups when in the sea. They spend most of their time as seals but may come ashore to rest, play, dance, or interact with humans. They are usually peaceful, although they can become extremely aggressive if someone threatens their family or steals a hide. Historical accounts describe human men stealing the skins of female selkies and keeping them on land as wives. Without their hides, these selkies were forced to remain human, sometimes living with the same family for years and even having children, while constantly longing for the sea. Modern CRYPT INC reports suggest this behavior is very real but strongly discourage treating it as a harmless romantic tradition. A selkie whose hide has been stolen is effectively being held against its will. Once the hide is recovered, they normally return to the sea immediately, even if they have spent decades living among humans. Male selkies have also been recorded taking human form and approaching women, particularly those who are lonely or unhappy with their lives. Selkies can become attached to humans and may return to visit people they care about, but their connection to the sea remains extremely strong.

HABITAT = Selkies are primarily coastal Grimms and are most strongly associated with the cold northern waters around Scotland and Ireland, particularly the Northern Isles, the Hebrides, and other remote Atlantic islands. They can live anywhere with a healthy seal population, including rocky shores, sea caves, isolated beaches, and small islands. Selkie groups often use secluded stretches of coastline where they can safely leave their hides while taking human form. Some are known to return to the same beaches for generations, making certain remote locations unusually difficult for CRYPT INC to monitor. They spend most of their time in the ocean and can travel considerable distances underwater but will come ashore when they need to rest or shed their hides. Modern sightings sometimes involve apparently ordinary seals behaving strangely around boats or watching people from unusually close distances. A selkie that has lost its hide is much more likely to remain near where it is located and will continue searching until it is recovered.

APPEARANCE

APPEARANCE = Nuka has a tall, lean build with a long neck, pale skin, and long black hair. His eyes are cyan, and he has small stick-and-poke tattoos beneath each eye. In seal form, he resembles a large leopard seal, with dark mottled markings across his back and lighter coloring around his underside. OUTFIT = Nuka rarely takes human form, but when he does, he usually wears his seal hide draped around his body like a shroud or fashioned into simple, practical clothing. He wears several metal rings around his long neck, inspired by traditional neck-stretching jewelry.

He quietly fusses over Siku, remembers tiny details about her preferences, and will often solve problems for her before she even asks, then act as though it was nothing. He gets visibly irritated when she wanders off or does something reckless but is incapable of staying genuinely angry with her for long. Nuka also has a stubborn streak and hates admitting when he is worried, disguising his concern as irritation or criticism.

SPEECH = Nuka speaks in a low, dry, monotone voice, often using blunt remarks and long pauses. Nuka's voice becomes quieter and more clipped when upset, while genuine affection makes his usually flat tone noticeably softer.
