________
The Kim and Jeon families had been business partners for eighteen years, and in all that time, no one could remember a single major decision made by one family without the other. It had started back in high school, when Mr. Jeon and Mr. Kim were best friends from modest households, two teenagers with borrowed textbooks and one shared dream of building something together. Within seven years of founding their company, that dream had outgrown every expectation—branches and offices spread across Korea, and the two friends who once sketched plans on the backs of their notebooks now lived inside those plans.
Their families grew close alongside the business. Mr. Jeon had two sons, Jae-suk and Jungkook. Mr. Kim had one daughter, and she was the youngest of the three children. From the time they could walk, she and Jungkook were inseparable—same schools, same holidays, same group of family dinners where they were always seated at the kids' table until they were old enough to argue their way to the adults' one.
They bickered constantly. She knew exactly which of his buttons to press, and he never missed a chance to tease her about anything and everything. To their families, it was simple: the youngest son and the only daughter, close as friends, the kind of bond that came from growing up side by side.
But their families didn't know what happened when the two of them were alone. His room or hers—it never mattered. And by the time anyone would realize what their youngest were doing, it would already be far too late.

They were physical with each other—sleeping together, tangled up in sheets in whichever room was empty, always careful about protection, always careful to leave no evidence behind. There was never a possibility to worry about, and they made sure it stayed that way.
But somewhere along the line, the friendship had curdled too. It wasn't clean, and it wasn't kind. They still argued, still mocked each other in front of their families, still played the part of two childhood friends who couldn't stand each other in public. Except now there was a current underneath it, something sharper, something that neither of them named.
It had started in high school. One night, a few friends pushed drugs on them at a party, and both of them—young, reckless, and too proud to say no—lost their minds to it. What happened after that, they never talked about sober. But they never went back to being only friends either. Friends with benefits was the word they used, if they used one at all.
She had never been the type to chase substances. She tried them, she indulged now and then, but she could walk away. Jungkook couldn't. By the time anyone could have noticed, he was already sinking into three things at once—substances, power, and her. The first two he fed openly, hungry and unapologetic. The third he kept locked away, because wanting her was the one thing he could never say out loud.

It was their friend's party, and neither of them had a reason to say no. The first few hours blurred by the way parties do—drinks passed around, music loud enough to feel in the ribs, bodies moving without purpose. She laughed more than she had in weeks. He stayed close, the way he always did, orbiting her without ever admitting that's what he was doing.
Then the real thing came out. A small crowd gathered on the low couches, and one by one people leaned forward. A few girls took a sniff and dissolved into giggles. A few boys followed, elbows on knees, eyes going glassy. Then it was his turn.
She reached for his wrist. "Jungkook. Don't."
He didn't even look at her. He never did when it came to this. He leaned forward, took the line, and then tipped his head back against the seat, staring at the ceiling as it hit him.
She stayed where she was, pressed into the corner of the couch beside him, nursing a shot she had no intention of finishing and refusing to speak. Her mind spun in circles. Tell his father. Don't tell his father. Watch him. Stop watching him. She was still arguing with herself when his hand closed around her wrist.
He was already standing, already pulling her through the crowd, past the speakers and the bodies and the smoke, out into the cold air of the parking lot.
"Jungkook, slow down—"
"Get in the car."
"You're not driving. Give me the keys."
"I said get in."
"Jungkook, I'm serious—"
"So am I." He yanked the passenger door open and practically shoved her into the seat, slamming it shut before she could climb back out. By the time she got her seatbelt on, he was already behind the wheel, engine roaring, jaw tight, eyes fixed somewhere far ahead of the road.
He drove like a maniac. She gripped the door handle the whole way, telling him to slow down, telling him he was going to get them killed, and he didn't answer once. The city lights smeared past the windows. His father's bungalow appeared at the end of a long, quiet street, dark except for the porch light.
He parked crooked, killed the engine, and was out of the car before she could move. He rounded the hood, pulled her door open, and hauled her out by the arm, marching her up the steps and through the front door without a word. The house was silent. His parents would be asleep by now. Jae-suk's room was dark at the end of the hall.
He took her straight to his bedroom. The door clicked shut behind them, and before she could take a breath, he had her pinned against it, palms flat on either side of her head.
His mouth found her jaw first, then her throat, slow and hot, while his hands slid down her sides, over her waist, along her hips, learning her shape like he had a hundred times before but never like this—never this desperate, never this far gone.
"I need you," he muttered against her skin.
She pressed a hand to his chest, trying to hold him back, trying to find the version of him that was still in there. "Jungkook—"
"Please. I'll be good." His voice dropped to a whisper against her neck. "I'll be gentle."
He caught both her wrists in one hand and pinned them above her head, and she felt the shift in him—the strength he usually kept leashed, the hunger he usually hid behind sarcasm and sharp remarks.
"Please," he breathed, "let me inside you, baby."
His eyes met hers. They were hazed, pupils blown wide, but underneath the substance there was something else she couldn't name—something that looked almost like begging.
"Stay on your toes, hmm? I'll push in gently." He swallowed hard. "Please, just—please."
He stayed there, breathing against her lips, waiting. Not moving. Not taking. Just waiting for her answer.
